Exclamation Sprocket's Updates [here only/leaves discussion flowing]

Apologies:

By Sprocket:

1:39 pm: I'm inside the courtroom and I just got the times. They stopped at 12:12 pm and restarted at 1:07 pm

Sprocket update:

1:41 pm: Answering a comment. Allan Parachini is the department head for the Public Information Office. That is the department that handles all liaison between the court and the public for all LA County Courts. He is in the courtroom with us now as the PIO officer to answer any questions. He's working on a laptop sitting at the big table on the defense side.

Sprocket:

1:51 pm: CNN has a reporter sitting inside the courtroom, waiting on a verdict. I do not know if they will be live streaming or not. From what I understand, Beth was just here for the Howard K. Stern arraignment. She has not indicated to me that she will be covering the verdict watch for Spector. I don't think so since there already is a CNN reporter in the room.

Hope you don't mind me doing this?

1:56 pm: Answering a question. This jury only heard (in testimony) that Lana's thumbnail was broken. That's it. There was nothing presented like the last time, with that mini trial within a trial investigating.

The jury heard in closing arguments from Jackson that the piece of nail was never found at the crime scene by the criminalists. This was in response to Mr. Weinberg's point #14, that the nail was broken and that proved that Lana Clarkson was holding the weapon.

In my opinion, this was brilliant strategy by Jackson to argue this in closing.

2:04 pm: Linda Deutsch enters 106.

Alan Parachini and Linda Deutsch chat about various subjects. Other than their conversation, it's quite silent in 106. Linda and Sherri are reading books, Lindy, the CNN reporter is reading a magazine and there is another news/reporter person who has been in here before but I don't know his name.

Sprocket:

2:11 pm: Answering a comment. Linda Deutsch is highly respected among her peers. She is a legend at the Associated Press.

2:12 pm: Answering a comment. The schedule. We were told on Monday it is on a day by day basis because at any time, the jury could come back with a verdict. So, there are no projected days/times off. We will be notified if there is any change.

I'll take this one, guys. :)

Hey Susan! Welcome aboard, happy to have you along!

To answer your questions below and give you my opinions...

1. No, none of us have any way of seeing any live coverage, not even feeds, other than our wonderful Sprocket who is attending the trail every day (and My2Cents was as well until a family member became ill--- thanks M2C for everything!). Stay tuned here, updates are almost as live as on Sprocket's page.

2. You're right... the wonder of the cyber-net. Any of us could really be anyone. Ha.

3. I agree with you as do many others here, I'm sure. The majority here do believe that Phil is guilty, and possibly of Murder 1, but the whole 'premeditation' thing would be tougher to prove than going for M2 or involuntary manslaughter. He killed her, no doubt, but how long did he think about it? That's where the issue lies, at least with me. A verdict of M2 is fine with me.

4. I don't think Phil was an addict who relapsed... I think his claim of 'hardly ever drinking' is a line of complete BS. I think Phil drinks. A lot. From what I've read about that night he was good and toasty when he talked Lana into going home with him--- if I remember correctly, she had to help him walk to his car. So I don't think he blacked out at all. Also, the fact that he was telling one of the police officers who went to the 'castle' that he "didn't mean to shoot her" and could "explain" tells me that Phil was at least aware of what was going on. Only later did he change his story about her committing suicide (anyone think maybe Shapiro suggested this scenario?), and again, in typical Phil fashion, he put her down and called her names the whole time (classy, sympathetic guy that he is you know).

Hope to get more of your input as the hours progress... but I *really* hope that the verdict comes in today.

=====

I've been using your verdict watch threads for several days to see if the verdict is in yet.

A couple of areas of interest:

1. Have I missed the CourtTV (I know, it's changed) coverage in, at least, the legal news segments?!?!? No crawl on the screen, no verdict watch icon-- it's so weird. Did they cover this AT ALL? (How did you all get your news?)

2. I could post that I'm Juror #42, but how would you know? (If #9 really is #9, apologies and thanks.)

3. I have wondered for a long time why they did not go for FELONY MURDER-- any death that occurs during the commission of another felony. IMO the first trial PROVED that Lana had been held against her will-- there's the felony right there, with the previous history of alcohol-related gunplay with other women showing the pattern, and the scene evidence showing she was trying to leave. IMO, that theory of the case would have been so much easier to prove than taking on the question of who fired the gun-- altho I agree with all the right-thinking people here who say the prosecution DID prove that.

4. Regarding alcoholism/addiction, in case it hasn't been mentioned. When an addict relapses, they go right back to the point they were at when they stopped using, neurologically. That mean PS could very well have been in a blackout when he blurted out the confession to Souza, but later did not recall the events and really, really thinks he is telling the truth now to deny it all. Sad, but true-- and of course, he still has to go to jail. Alcohol + misogyny is a lethal combination and if you know you are likely to offend, you have the choice not to drink and start it all over again, so--- [prison door slamming]. Was surprised not to see addiction theory presented just like that, by expert witnesses, in the first trial-- another slam dunk missed.

===

I'm not here much, but if you reply using the numbers I used above instead of quoting the whole thing over and over, I'll try to interact when I can. I did watch every minute of the first trial, BTW, and would have watched this one, too, if it had been available.

THANKS, and keep watching!!!

~Susan

It looks like it's been worked out. NIC is quoting Sprocket in a seperate thread here. That's the best of both worlds. Those of us who can't get to Sprockets Blog can read it here, but the quotes are all in one place, out of the main stream.

It was locked a short time ago when I first got here. Unless it has been re-opened...

I don't think so. The links belong in the link thread. But we can surely discuss what she has posted. Let's say, she tells us about raspberry sherbet, we can say that the jury just had dessert, can't we?

There is going to be a Dateline show airing Friday night on NBC at 10pm with Alan Jackson on a three person panel per Sprocket. I will definately be watching.

It's nearly always OK to say in your own words what you've read - so I'd say posting updates from Sprocket that are not a direct copy/paste would be fine.

Without a CW ruling, at the very least, I'd expect that the worst that will happen is the posts will be deleted.

Sprocket said they were kicked out right at 12 noon, it would take a little time to bring in the food so maybe they've only been at lunch about an hour.

Didn't she say they were done? No, sorry SHE was done with her lunch. Why bother saying that and getting me confused?

Sad

Sprocket doesn't think that there will be a LIVE feed of the verdict since there is no satellite truck there.

Who knew that a satellite truck was necessary for live feeds? I thought that these things magically appeared on my tv and computer LOL...

I am so often amazed at all this world has to offer now. I spent the weekend nursing a bad tooth. I went out and bought some temporary filling and filled my own tooth! Then I took a cab to the dentist and watched the news during the whole cab ride. Finally got to my destination and again watched the news, this time on a little TV in the elevator taking me up to the dentist.

When I got my first job, we used something called ditto to make copies. Xerox didn't exist yet.

Back to the waiting game. Hope we hear the three bells soon. Guilty as charged.

As far as I'm concerned that is exactly how they get there!

Oh that may be true, there was a CNN truck there yesterday per Sprocket, maybe the truck isn't far away and once there are 3 buzzes it can race over to the courthouse!

So far I still have faith and hope that the right verdict will be soon. Positive thoughts here. Just the only way I know how to think.
