Arrow Tom & Jackie Hawks Yacht Murder

Well, this is the last of the 4 to be put on trial for the 2004 murders of this lovely couple.

The trial is expected to take 4 - 6 weeks. Kennedy denies even being there, just like Deleon did in the beginning - saying he was no where near that arena when the crime happened... Hopefully this jury will also see the truth & convict. Disgusting group of Vultures! Machain, who pled guilty and sentence is unknown yet, to be lessened for testifying in all the other trial, told the story about how it happens. It would make your blood run cold. I read a summary of it and that was almost too much for me to bear. But on the following website, there is a link to the detailed testimony of how the killed this couple. Tom Hawks got in one last great kick to Deleon's groin before he was killed. He now says he doesn't want his penis anyway because he always felt like a girl and it shouldn't be there. Supposedly, in 2007, the guards caught him in the act of trying to chop it off...

He will be on 20/20 Friday night, discussed the murders of the THREE people he killed. He expect the Judge to confirm the DP on 3/20 but I seriously don't know why he would talk about it unless he really doesn't plan to appeal. I hope he fries well... Then again, this is the state that is the home of Scott Peterson - California's last execution was in January 2006. Three years ago...

AMEN TO THAT Starling!!

Did you see that creep on 20/20 feigning remorse? It made me NAUSEOUS! The interview also showed Jennifer and see seems happy & had a necklace on. What's up w/ that? I thought she got TWO life sentences (LWOP)? Did they actually let her "dress up" for that interview?

I hope there truly IS a HE!! for these 4 - and that there are several layers (Like Dante's inferno). Surely they would all go to the worst level!!!!

IIRC, it can take minutes (2 - 4). It must be a HORRIBLE way to die, I can't even imagine how horrible it must have been. Those minutes were probably unbearable and might have felt like HOURs!
Truly despicable! That should be the DP for Deleon, Kennedy, Machain & Deleon's g/f! THAT is what they deserve!!

Oh, it's so gruesome! They grabbed those two people, "subdued" them, handcuffed them, put duct tape around their eyes and mouths, tied them to an anchor and threw them in the ocean. The terror and the suffering he Hawks endured is too horrible to imagine. And we, in return, DP or not, can never hurt the perpetrators of this unspeakable crime, the way they hurt their victims.

Kennedy trial headed to closing arguments
http://www.dailypilot.com/articles/2...rief021709.txt
Murphy’s case relies heavily on the testimony of two men who claim Kennedy was on the boat with the Hawkses and convicted killer Skylar Deleon that day. Kennedy was hired as the “muscle” to help Deleon and another man, Alonso Machain, subdue the couple before tying them to an anchor and throwing them overboard, prosecutors said.Machain and Kennedy’s longtime friend, Myron Gardner, testified that Kennedy did it.
Kennedy testified in his own defense last week that he wasn’t there and had never met his accused accomplices before appearing in court with them.

I had never read this Times story on the murders...
http://www.timespublications.com/jan07-feature1.asp
Restricted by handcuffs and blindfold, Tom soothes Jackie’s hands.... Kennedy again blindsides Tom in his right temple. The strike echoes with a dull thud, and Tom begins stuttering and slurring like a boxer, bruised on the brain....The last words Jackie Hawks’ murderers hear are more a cry than a statement: “Just let us live,” Jackie screams, shaking in fear as the couple is tied to the anchor. “I just want to see my grandson."As Kennedy drags the bound couple to the edge of the boat, Tom is unconscious and Jackie screams..With that, Kennedy pushes Tom and Jackie Hawks off the stern of the boat, and Skylar Deleon heaves the 66-pound anchor, chained to the couple, into the ocean...Deleon laughs before turning the yacht toward shore. Machain rummages through drawers, collecting cash, jewelry and other valuables. Meanwhile, Kennedy grabs a cold beer, drops a line in the water and fishes all way back to the harbor.....

Oh, the inhumanity!! (from "Heart of Darkness", I believe)...
I had heard some of that - but not all. They truly are the dregs of society. No consciouses, no empathy, all out for themselves. I will never understand why some people are full of compassion and others have ABSOLUTLEY NONE!

I HOPE FOR A VERY QUICK GUILTY VERDICT WITH THE DP FOR HIM TOO!

Is Myron Gardner the guy who was supposed to be on the boat, but didn't show up? I'm confused as to how Deleon and Machain even knew Kennedy's name if Kennedy never met them before the trial. I assume there were fingerprints on the boat? That would do it right there. Hope they have some else on Kennedy besides the word of some killers.

Jury came back GUILTY for John Kennedy
Penalty phase starts Monday

Orange County prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for Kennedy, who has a prior strike for a 1988 attempted murder. Kennedy, tried in Orange County Superior Court in Santa Ana, is the third person convicted in connection with the Hawks' deaths.

Thanks so much for the update! I'm glad they got the last guy too.

Myron (I think) - was the one who introduced Deleon to Kennedy. Maybe he didn't want to do it but referred him to Kennedy? I think it is something like that.

I don't know if Kenny has any mitigating factors that would outweigh the aggravating, but it sure doesn't sound like he was somelaw abiding good guy b4 the murders. He should get the DP too; he drank a beer afterwards like it was no big deal! Disgusting!!

Thanks so much for the info! I didn't think it would take a week, but I guess it makes sense because the DP is very serious.

Can you also let us know when/if a decision is reached? I'll be checking search engines, but certainly don't want to miss the sentencing decision...

Verdict has been reached, will be read momentarily in OC courts. I should go over there but probably wont make it in time to hear it read.

TYSM for the update! He deserves it just as much as Deleon!

Justice has been done as far as it can be.... Nothing will bring them back but at least all the perps have been caught & given their due!

Thanks for the link. I always think of the collateral damage in these cases. The family & friends of the victims always get hit the hardest, but the jurors and everyone else involved have to heal from this experience too.

I am pro-death penalty in extremely egregious cases and I think this crime was beyond egregious. I agree with their decision. Also someone posted the link Skylar Deleon's interview - unfortunately I missed the ABC interview - hope to see it on a repeat. I caught a snippet of it though on ABC's website.

Skylar's assertions that he has remorse did NOT ring true whatsoever. It is painfully obvious why the guy failed as an actor -- he couldn't act his way out of a paper back. He could care less what he has done.

How people could plot and plan.. then carry out something this evil and heinous will NEVER, ever, ever make sense to me.

Ryan and Matt Hawks seem like incredible, gracious, beautiful people.. I am sure that both Tom and Jackie are VERY proud of them right now.

Me too! All FOUR of them. THAT would be even greater justice. I mostly believe in an eye-for-an-eye, although I know it isn't a popular view & is not "civilized." I really wish they could at least experience the same FEAR the Hawks did, even if they don't let them drown...

Judge Sentences Deleon to Death

I haven't followed this case as closely as some, so I hope this isn't old news but the article seemed new. I assume that the jury recommended death and the judge just confirmed it.

One more to go

yet another Hawks killer,Alonso Machin, has not been dealt a final sentence....
http://www.ocregister.com/articles/s...-johnnie-board
..Alonso Machain is the former Seal Beach jailer Skylar befriended and then persuaded to help him kill the Hawks....Machain helped Skylar plan the killings, was on the boat,...actively participated in murdering the couple by restraining Jackie while Skylar and Kennedy overpowered Tom....Machain fled to Mexico...apparently had a change of conscience and returned. His testimony convicted his two on-board accomplices and helped convict Jennifer... D.A.'s Office hasn't yet decided what to do but will be taking into account the feelings of Tom's and Jackie's families...One consideration...is that even if Machain were allowed to plead to reduced charges, say two counts of second-degree murder, it might well have the practical effect of being a life sentence because of the conservative nature of the state parole board. The board would have a look at him in 11 years but would be under no obligation to ever release him....

...Lamb, an 83-year-old retired aerospace engineer, says of the trial testimony: "I've never experienced anything so brutal in my life, sitting through that. I still have nightmares about it. … I'm sure we've all had sleepless nights.".......

Thanks for letting us know that. This truly is a HAC crime (heinous, atrocious & cruel). I think Machain will be the only other MALE w/out DP because I don't think the case would have been as strong w/out him. I thought he already pled to jail time? I'll have to go a-searching....

I say give them ALL the death penalty. Somebody COULD have done something but instead chose to do NOTHING.

Or better yet tie them all to an anchor and let them find out what it is like to drown. (sorry i'm just ranting)

Machain, cooperated with prosecutors and testified against the others in exchange for escaping a potential death sentence. He is expected to plead guilty and is looking at a life term in prison.

Oh, ITA and have said so before! All the DP criminals should have to die that way. They should feel the terror they instilled on two helpless LOVELY people! All of them, SCUMS of the earth!
Eye for an eye - although I realize that is not considered "civilized" these days...
