A Mother accused of selling newborn twins in exchange for plastic surgery

A mother in the Belgian tourist haven of Ghent has been accused by her estranged husband of selling her newborn twin boys for more than $13,000 to pay for cosmetic surgery.
Marc Poppe, 48, told an undercover reporter for Dutch television that Sonia Ringoir, 31, had sold the babies to a friend to fund liposuction...Since Belgium has no law banning the sale of children, Ringoir was charged with "degrading treatment" of the twins.........

I didn't understand the article--is Poppe the estranged husband? It says "the couple" had researched ways to make quick money, and it sounded like the estranged husband saying he was involved in the search.

I don't know about leaving the babies w/people who would BUY them, altho, I guess, in a sense, people who adopt babies even thru legal means "buy" them in the sense of paying medical bills or attorney fees and such. I do hope they are placed with (or maybe left with) people who can give them a good, safe home.

Didn't say whether or not she got the surgery, and I don't usually wish ill for people, but she would be one who I would hope would end up one of the horror stories of plastic surgery we see on tv.
