Celebrities and their handlers (bodyguards)
Usually whenever the Justice System interacts with Celebrities, floating in the background are the actions of the celebrity’s handlers. In almost all cases, they are there to protect the life, privacy and dignity of the client. But, there can be a dark side to the actions of handlers as well. Usually we get little glimpses of what they do when the interactions reach the litigation phase in testimony. We have seen this time and time again like in Lady Di’s tragic death, OJ’s first trial, famous male and female singers and actors who imbibe too much. We have also heard this in Harvey Phillip Spector’s first trial. We can only catch snippets and little chunks of testimony. His regular limo driver was just such a handler/bodyguard. When Phil got a little too drunk and domineering, he would be hustled away. If he pulled a gun as he is inclined to do, poof, off he would be whisked away and the handlers and publicists would smooth things out. He has been doing this for 30 years and has gotten very used to it. Let others clean up after him, after all, he is the famous creator of the “Wall of Sound” and equates himself with Galileo.
On the morning of February 3, 2003, his designated handler was not able to provide this service and there was a substitute driver, Adriano DeSousa who knew nothing of the “little” extra service required to take care of Mr. Spector. Phil, in his state, did his gun show, but this time, went too far and pulled the trigger. Oops, time for me to get my “handler”. He opened the back door and tells his handler, “I think I just killed someone”. Upon seen Mr. DeSousa, realizes his mistake and retreats back inside to do his pathetic job at attempting to “clean up” after himself. Of course he does not call 911; he has some work to do.
The reader must understand that this is my interpretation of what I heard during Spector #1 and of other interactions between Celebrities and the Justice System and are not facts in this case.
