Good morning. I can't sleep...
I am bringing this post over from the earlier thread:

This really bothers me.
I thought a person could not profit from their crimes!
Really..to me...if the Anthony's are spending $$ they've made from this case..ie selling interviews, pictures etc....to the benifit of Casey, it should all have to be paid back.
This is truely disgusting.
|
I have seen other people write posts like this and I wanted to address it. I think a few things would make it possible for Casey and the Anthony's to profit from the crime.
#1 - I thought the "Son of Sam" law had been struck down. That is why the Rocha's are suing Scott Peterson because if he wanted to - he could sell his story and profit from it. From my research for that case - I remember reading that the Son of Sam law was struck down because the Supreme Court ruled that it interfered with our "freedom of speech".
Someone correct me if I am wrong about that but that's what I recall.. Or maybe it was just struck down in California.
#2 - Casey hasn't been convicted of a crime.. She hasn't even been charged with murder YET, so I don't think the "Son of Sam" clause would pertain to her as of right NOW... if the clause still exists.
#3 - if I am incorrect about #1 and #2 --- the GPs, George and Cindy, would be exempt from the Son of Sam law anyway, since they were NOT responsible for the crime (allegedly). So they could essentially sell the story and use the money to pay for her attorney fees.
It's sickening that companies would be willing to pay them for their story but it's not surprising. It's blood money.. plain and simple.

Having a hard time staying awake working the graveyard shift tonight.
Does anyone know if and when TES will start searching again?

Not sure if anyone saw this. It looks intersting.

Yes, it looks interesting but you have to remember that the Anthonys and Baez are in full assault mode right now. There *may* be a totally different story than what some poster is wanting you to believe.
Pound of salt and all that jazz.

#1, Son of Sam laws are state law, not federal laws. The original New York law was struck down also, but various states (including New York) do now have laws to prevent felons from capitalizing on their crimes written with an eye towards adhering to the First Amendment ruling laid out by the Supreme Court. I don't know if Florida has a current Son of Sam law or not, but as far as I know, it hasn't been struck down. The California Son of Sam law was struck down in 2002.
#2 and #3 are correct. Nobody has been charged, much less convicted, of anything to do with Caylee's murder, so there's nothing to stop anyone from profiting by selling their rights to a book, movie, etc.

I think this whole money thing is a sad reflection of what our country has become. People used to be ashamed to be connected to anything criminal. It was the reason people were cut out of families, not given jobs, and thrown out of social circles. Now many people profit from their wrongdoing and somehow the money eases their consciences.
I can't imagine following this case for many more months because what we know will happen, will happen -- another breaking case will push Caylee to the back burner. Fewer searchers will show, TES will eventually pack up and leave, and after the dust settles there will sit Casey and her family moving on with their lives. It's a shame, but eventually that's what I see happening.

I believe the LE has enough evidence to charge, and most likely convict Casey of at least 2nd degree murder in the death of Caylee. We haven't heard all the results of all the forensics tests. I believe they're holding off charging her for now, hoping to find her body. But, I don't think they'll just let it drop if they don't find her.

I hope you're right. What bothers me is that we've heard other leaks about this and that (chloroform, presence of decomp), but noone has leaked anything about much else which makes me wonder if there's nothing else to say.
Good thing is that there's no statute of limitations on murder and bones have certainly been recovered many years later and presented as evidence. Of course the elephant in the room is that Casey will maintain that Zenaida did it. CASEY IS THE ONLY ONE WITH MOTIVATION THOUGH. I'm glad they at least have info about the web search for chloroform and info about a counselor visit from Cindy. I think it does strengthen the theory that Casey left mad with Caylee.
I'll never understand cases like this...

TES may get called to another case. One with a fresher trail, with a higher chance of rescuing a live person. Nobody knows what will happen. I doubt however that local searchers will ever stop, unless LE decides that they have covered enough ground as to eliminate any chance of finding her remains, or they have enough evidence to make charges.
However I doubt this case will ever be on the backburner as long as public outrage over the circumstances continue, and people continue to speak out and demand justice.

I so hope that this does not become "backburnered" and believe the outrageous behavior of the Anthony clan just might prevent that from happening! These media mavens will keep their drama "out there", assuming that they'll garner sympathy & maybe $ while those who barely knew/"know" Caylee will keep her in their hearts & minds. IMO, the "Anthony Action figures" have had a major blowout, backfire and are driving on rims, leaving sparks as they go & ppl better move aside or get incinerated/investigated/implicated!!!!!!.

Morning all
I don't know what to say except that I'm very sad and frustrated. We're approaching the 3 month mark since anyone last saw Caylee and we're nowhere closer to finding out what happened to her.
All we hear about is the circus. The hi fiving, the brownies, the garbage pickers and now the possible book deal and promotional tour or whatever the grandparents attorney is up to.
I just don't know anymore. I honestly believe that if they had enough evidence against her, they'd charge her.

And the media blitz tour begins:
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/...,3898987.story
NeJames is comparing George and Cindy to families of POW/MIA's. IMO, that's not even a legitimate comparison. These families actually knew where their loved ones were serving and it wasn't that they were held captive by some nanny. I would use the puker, but it's still early.

I think it's a crying shame that they are and will make money off the death and possible murder of this child. Cold, cruel and calculating. I can only keep hanging onto the faith that they will reap what they sow, every one of them. And I do have some control... I won't buy any books, I won't watch any movies and I won't watch any interviews as well as I will write to any sponsors of any television shows. That's just what I will do, not suggesting it for anyone else.
As for the website that is going to be going up for donations for Casey's defense fund, I don't think that will work for a minute. Remember Dru Peterson and his website. It didn't last but a couple of days before they gave up and took it down due to no interest in donating and also such bad press and reaction from people. JMHO

I makes it much easier to get a convition when a body is found. Since Casey isn't going anywhere, I don't think the LE is going to rush to charge her with murder. There is the right to a speedy trial to consider, so the LE normally wants to gather as much evidence as possible before charging the suspect. There are cases where the defendant was charge and aquitted, then evidence that probably would have brought a convition was found afterwards. With the double jeopardy law, those people couldn't be charged and tried again, and are walking around free as a bird.

Don't give up hope. Talking to DH last night and he's always maintained that they only hope to find the body to bolster their case. He thinks that when push comes to shove, she will be charged with Murder 1, with or without the body. Seems like a long time for us, but remember she will, in all likelihood, be serving serious time for her current charges. Time is on the side of LE to continue searching.
That, and watching the Anthonys totally implode.....

It was great hearing a different side of things last night from Nate,,
It shed a little more light on things as far as how she acted,, well not really light but I guess it just confirmed what alot of us have been reading. Its different when you actually hear it rather than read it..
But what got me is them saying that it will be hard now that so much time has passed to determine a cause of death.. The CH wont show up so the family will probably be cleared on that and go along with the " cleaning" theory.. That makes me mad!!

As much as I want to see her back NOW, I think they also know that she will be back in November from her current charges. She won't be out long and they also may soon file more charges putting her back in. She'll get out again due to her folks, but just when she gets comfortable and cocky, she'll have to spend a couple of nights back in. And after November, she'll be in for good. They can then file murder charges any time while she is serving time for her current crimes. MOO

gmorning . . . hope you've also read this site . . . she's ticked about $ on the table . . .
So, here's my plan: I propose that we start a worldwide Internet campaign against any outlet that pays Casey Anthony anything, even a single dollar, for an interview. We do this by monitoring the news to find out who the offenders are and then sending out e-mails to all our friends, asking them to tell all their friends, and so on, so on, warning everyone of this disgusting behavior, urging them not to watch whatever television program Anthony appears on. If there's money involved, turn the TV off! Maybe keep it off that channel/program even after the interview airs, just for good measure. Let these lowlifes know we mean business.

Keep the faith! I have a great belief in LE & the DA..most are hard working, honest individuals who want to better life by having justice and order prevail thru chaos. The inner workings of charging a case are complex, the more info available the better and just the behaviors you itemized will be/are fodder for LE to investigate & the DA to try use in trial.
From dealing with cases here, I've seen the LE committ to rounding up all parties involved. I'm sure they want each & every possible item of evidence, especially Caylee to provide whatever closure emotionally and "noose tighten" the perp (s). The stronger the case with "concrete evidence" as Cindy would say, the better; less possibility of a waltzing guilty perp.
Charges will be coming!.....We've been so spoiled by the quick resolution of crimes on TV shows that appear soooooooooo realistic!

Awwww...your job has the nerve to interfere with posting? How awful!
Nancy is right about not being able to profit from your crime in FL, per their Son of Sam law. But, they have to be convicted of the crime for that to be effective, and Casey hasn't even been charged with murder yet, so she could legally profit from selling her rights as of right now.

I know that when Nate said that Caylee's favorite expression was "What up dude!" that made me want to cry.
He told us more about Caylee as a person than the Anthonys EVER have.
I'm not worried about anyone not being able to determine COD. If a body of a 2 year old is found in a swamp, it's a good bet that it wasn't from natural causes.
(Jiminy Christmas, am I the only seeing the glass half FULL this morning? J/K, I get bummed out too but I have faith that justice will be served, in its own time and nothing the Anthonys do can stop that.)

how would it be of any intrest? we've heard their lies and that is what a movie or book would be basted on, i certainly would have no intrest in reading it or watching the Zanny nanny movie, just another pack of lying on the Anthonys part. and they certainly are not going to tell the real truth.

Nancy is right about not being able to profit from your crime in FL, per their Son of Sam law. But, they have to be convicted of the crime for that to be effective, and Casey hasn't even been charged with murder yet, so she could legally profit from selling her rights as of right now.

We definitely need to let the sponsors of any such program know of our disgust. They need photos of their products in the trash.
I'm in too!

There are cases where the defendant was charge and aquitted, then evidence that probably would have brought a convition was found afterwards. With the double jeopardy law, those people couldn't be charged and tried again, and are walking around free as a bird.

I understand that but the longer they wait, the more the defense builds their case as well. Why do you think Baez hasn't invoked his right to a speedy trial? Look at what's happening. People taking garbage from the Anthonys as an example. Do you think if anything was found in that garbage bag and presented to LE as evidence, they can use it? No way. Also, I'm starting to question the real reason TES left. Don't get me wrong....I love Tim Miller and what he does for victims and their families but if they found anything, the defense could possibly use that as evidence against the search and claim it was planted by a volunteer searcher or it's contaminated or whatever.
The longer they wait, the risk just gets higher, imo.
I hope Tony, Amy and those who gave witness statements stay out of the media. It would be a disaster if they start to talk. All these folks like Nate and Clint coming out to get their 15 minutes is NOT helping. The defense can use these statements and prove inconsistencies. Clint said one thing, Nate says another. Get what I mean? We know they're watching and listening and trying to find any holes possible.

As for the website that is going to be going up for donations for Casey's defense fund, I don't think that will work for a minute. Remember Dru Peterson and his website. It didn't last but a couple of days before they gave up and took it down due to no interest in donating and also such bad press and reaction from people. JMHO

The Anthonys' behavior is totally despicable. Not only have they thrown Caylee under the bus in favor of Casey, but are using her murder as their "meal ticket". From day one they asked for donations, including gift cards, to search for Caylee. We all know how that search went. It boggles my mind that there are people out there who are so naive that they are still sending money to the Anthonys. What did P T Barnum say about fools? The word "grifter" in the dictionary will now have a picture of this family.
I really have never felt such animosity toward the family of a suspect. Usually, I feel some sympathy toward a suspect's family---right now, it would not bother me a bit, if all four of them got the DP! It is horrific, that NeJames (?) is going on a "publicity tour"--we have definitely reached a low point in jurisprudence.
I know that LE rarely charges members of the suspect's family, but I think they should make an exception in this case. C, G, and L have done everything possible to make this case as difficult as possible for LE and TES--and they don't even tell believable lies. I think they should be charged with AAF and perjury (if, they lied in their sworn statements--which, I believed they did). If they are not charged, can you imagine what the effects of that message will be? What will the next "family" do to protect some POS?
The fact that this family wants to make their fortune on the "blood money" of their granddaughter and niece tells me all I need to know about them. I would like to see NG and/or GVS do a show on this topic!

NeJames is comparing George and Cindy to families of POW/MIA's. IMO, that's not even a legitimate comparison. These families actually knew where their loved ones were serving and it wasn't that they were held captive by some nanny. I would use the puker, but it's still early.

|
How sad a comparison is that. Cindy and George have a daughter who claims to know who has their granddaughter. She simply isn't telling anyone. HUGE DIFFERENCE and quite insulting to the families of POW/MIA's.

WHAT OTHER GROUP OF SEARCHERS? Why have we not heard of this before?

It could be a group of volunteers working with/thru LE ,,

IIRC Clint said Casey told them Caylee was with Grandma, Nate however had the Nanny story.
I wonder what kind of school they were attending? Anyone know?

1) Because they don't exist?
2) Because they are "working outside the normal scope of things"?
3) Because they are figments of Cindy's imagination?
We can rest assured that group doesn't include any of the Anthonys.
But my money's on #1.

I don't doubt LE is working around the clock. I don't doubt Tim Miller's dedication to find little Caylee's body. I don't doubt the posters on this board and other boards want justice for Caylee.
I won't mention the other cases where the perps are walking around when they should be in jail. The victim is still missing and the person responsible is carrying on like nothing happened.
Been there way too many times to know that justice is not always served. If LE is waiting for a confession or needs the body to charge her, it may never happen.

I wondered where Lynn is too.
On a side note, I watched the cross examin. of Cindy last night again at the bond hearing and saw something that I missed the first time around that had me laughing outloud. At one point the woman asked her if Casey lived with her all the time and Cindy said yes, since she was born. (paraphrasing) And the woman said, "HOW OLD is she???" Cindy said 22. And the woman said something like "right".... Cindy got a horrible mean look on her face and cocked her head at the woman like "you want to make something out of it?" ROFL
JMHO always
