BREAKING NEWS: Arrest Likely Today In Laurean Document Thefts Save Email Print
Posted: 9:23 AM Aug 15, 2008
Last Updated: 10:01 AM Aug 15, 2008

A volunteer intern with the Onslow County district attorney's office is the center of an investigation into copied documents in the Cesar Laurean case.

District Attorney Dewey Hudson tells WITN News that he expects an arrest to be made today. Hudson has called a 3 p.m. news conference to further brief reporters.

Yes thank you CW!

Hmm, now this revelation leads to a lot of questions.

Was Kay's source the intern? Was the entire case file copied or only a select few pages copied? Could this leak compromise the case against Laurean?

Did Dewey get suspicious about the possible leaking of information from his office and made contact with the OCSO to 'shake the trees'?

Just when you think this case can't get any weirder, it does.

I'm doing well henry, thanks!

Yes I thought the place would only be opened when Laurean was back in Jacksonville doing the 'perp walk'.

Never saw this one coming...

More info has been released per WITN.

Robert Sharpe was the intern who was the confidential source for LK and the Daily News. He says he expects to be arrested and charged with misdeamnor larceny today. He sounds bitter towards the paper too. I posted the link on the link page.

Per WITN, LLE has recovered hundreds of documents in the case and a CD. Sounds like he was a busy little beaver.

I haven't seen anything about a livestream but I'll keep an eye out and let you know.

That's what I've heard too. So it may be a couple of years before he's back, if ever.

hundreds of documents involved & a cd . . . update now available

During the phone interview, Sharpe was critical of the newspaper. "I am very disappointed with the Daily News. I was supposed to be a confidential source, they screwed me over and offered no help or assistance afterward. I put my trust in the organization," Sharpe told WITN

I agree.

I guess his parents are able to buy him a reasonably comfortable lifestyle and maybe some protection n prision. Otherwise, I woud think that he would want the heck out of Mexican jail. JMO

been waiting for this board to open back up!

i believe lindell just committed career suicide. this also won't bode well for the jdnews in general.

I just hope it doesn't affect cesar's prosecution if and when he comes back to america

and shame on that intern for jeopardizing justice for maria!

ITA!

Any connection LK had with either the DA's office or OCSO is now non-existent. I don't blame them for never telling him anything else.

I wonder what, if any, ramifications will be in store for Mr. Kay?

Funny thing WITN and other local media outlets are all over this but JDNews hasn't updated their lead article online.

Tabloid journalism...

I hope this doesn't do irreparable harm to the case against CAL.

MW, hope all is well in Va.

District Attorney Worker Charged With Copying Cesar Laurean Documents - August 15, 2008

A volunteer intern with the Onslow County district attorney's office has been charged with felony embezzlement and misdemeanor larceny in connection with stolen documents in the Cesar Laurean case. Robert Sharpe tells WITN News that he was a confidential source for the Jacksonville Daily News.

That is a good question.

From the way LK has spoken in the past, the JDN operates on a pretty tight budget.

According to the WITN link the intern, Robert Sharpe, has been chanrged wtih felony embezzlement, which to me indicates $$$$$

Hi all....hmmm, another twist and turn as DA H put it. Does make one wonder what was in it for the "source", was he paid or what?

The silence at JDNews on this is deafening to say the least.

Okay, what are we to make about the sexual preference thing?

Could this be what led Cesar to murder Maria. Did he swing both ways and she had proof that she could provide to the USMC? Did this cause the rage?

Greetings everyone. I've been wondering about the unholy alliance between RS and LK with reference as to how it would all play out in court IF McNeil was committed to fighting for CL's life.

In particular I wondered about how ethical some of the goings on have been and if it could pierce the trial proceedings given some of what we've seen.

Once Dewey and Rick started advocating for a less than innocent Christina, I felt they might be stepping over the line. But this latest twist tops that IMO.

Can't wait to hear more and hope Lindell didn't get himself into a serious pickle, but I do agree it's not going to bode well for his career.

Kel, that goes in my file right behind the OFFICER story....

I think someone likes to parse the wording in anything, therefore affording them the limelight as they make hay with what essentially amounts to not so much IMOO.

I see this morsel coming from the web allegations on porn and some of the sites allegedly visited. It makes for interest and HITS on a certain WEBSITE IMO.

Did anything ever come of the OFFICER STORY? I have yet to see anything at all.

I see the same thing happening with the SEXUAL PREFERENCES, but you never know.

Rumors are out there alleging that base is known for HYPER-SEXUALITY, but I think you will always have the swinger/experimenting groups with deployments and a need to bond with peers. Remember the Cindy Summers case?

I would require something more substantial and Lord knows when you ask anything about the OFFICER allegation, it's met with more spinning IMO.

jdnews has updated their site, i think, from what they published earlier this a.m. . . . but didn't update the header time . . . publisher potter is quoted as saying now . . .

"News organizations often work with and assist other news organizations on these types of stories, but no contact information about any source was provided without permission of that person,"

edit . . . kel65 . . . i'd like to see the news conference before commenting on the sexual preference thing

I wonder if the DA's office will receive questions from reporters about the sexual preference stuff. I would not be suprised at this point, if there is something to it. Nothing abou this case surprises me anymore. It just get more and more bizarre. as time goes on.

I am beginning to wonder if the intern asked for money when he contacted by the undercover officer? I know I'm taking a leap here in assuming contact was made between the two (and I'm hoping my parachute is in working order) but that's what popped in my mind when Newsweek was mentioned.

I hope for the Daily News' sake that no money was passed between LK and the intern.

Here's a little food for thought Nutty.....

FROM WITN...

Throughout its coverage of the Laurean case the Daily News has cited "sources close to the investigation" in revealing information that had not been released to other news organizations.

From the picture shown at WITN, the presser will be in one of the courtrooms at the old courthouse (which is Superior Court).
