Some seem to think that illegal immigrants only do the jobs that us "lazy" Americans dont want to do because we dont like to get our hands dirty but notice in the photos who is doing all the work trying to undo some of the damage that illegal immigrants have caused.

The Southern Arizona Project is a multi-year program set up by the Bureau of Land Management
(BLM) to mitigate the impacts of illegal immigration and smuggling through on-the-ground projects. Between fiscal years (FY) 2003 and 2005, the program was funded through congressionally added on
supplements. In FY 2006 (and FY07), the BLM has funded this project though base annual
appropriations. The program funding totals $4,404,000: FY2003 $695,000; FY2004 $790,000;
FY2005 $986,000; FY 2006 $971,000; and, FY2007 $962,000.

The Tohono Odham indian reservation covers some 2.8 million square acres. 75 miles are directly on the Mexican border and that's posed a challenge for the police department. Sergeant Vinscent Garcia says officers encounter illegal immigration at least 65 times a week, that's about 30 percent of their work load. The nation's police chief Joseph Delgado says drug and human smuggling is not only a problem for his department, but for the community, "I know the aliens walk thru sacred sites, they walk thru people's yards thru property they have no respect for none of this leaving behind garbage, trash and trashing the lands of the nation."

interesting - i didn't know that if the names/soc sec numbers don't match, NO ONE gets credit for the soc sec taxes paid by the worker. apparently that means the u.s. citizen to whom the soc sec # legitimately belongs wouldn't be credited and would/could lose out on soc sec benefits when they retire??

I'm glad President Bush sent the Mexican government $465 million of our hard earned, much needed tax dollars to fight the Mexican Drug Cartel. If all of their Mexican federal police are like these two we only paid money to make the problem worse.

The Associated Press reported that security is being tightened at border crossings after law enforcement officials received what they called a “credible threat” that members of Mexican drug cartels intended to kill as many as 20 people in Texas and New Mexico. Officials didn’t say who the targets are.

Reports that Senator Barack Obama's aunt is an illegal immigrant living in Boston public housing sparked outrage yesterday at a time when nearly 20,000 people are on waiting lists for subsidized housing in the city.

The news lit up talk radio, stirred debate on blogs, and led to a new call for government officials to do a better job screening for illegal immigrants.

"This is a really lousy deal for Massachusetts taxpayers and for other people in Massachusetts who might be able to qualify for a public subsidy but can't get one," said Jessica Vaughan, senior policy analyst of the Washington-based Center for Immigration Studies, though she is based in Franklin, Mass. "To be fair to legal residents and citizens, those people in need should be the priority. Public housing is a limited service."

Zeituni Onyango, the 56-year-old half-sister of Obama's late father whom Obama saw sporadically throughout the years, first applied for public housing in 2002 while she was a legal resident seeking asylum from her native Kenya.

But she remained in federal public housing after an immigration judge ordered her deported four years ago, according to the Associated Press. Residents of federal public housing must prove that they are here legally, but their status is checked only when they first apply, housing authority officials said.

In addition, Boston Housing Authority officials confirmed yesterday that the agency used federal funds to pay Onyango more than $1,500 last year when she worked as a resident health advocate to educate people in the community about asthma. She worked from January to early July for $65 a week.

Bill McGonagle, deputy director of the housing authority, said the agency obeyed federal law in housing and hiring Onyango. He said the Department of Homeland Security never informed the authority that Onyango was facing deportation.snipped

Their systems are a bit out of whack - when you first apply, and they verify your immigration status, they should pay attention to when that status expires, and recheck you then.

Paying her for work - $65.00 a week - not enough money for me to fuss about. But the housing is. I wonder how many other illegals are living there, and how many citizens waiting in line can be accomodated.

Phoenix police are aggressively trying to reduce the number of near-daily home invasions and kidnappings, which helped earn the city the title of "kidnap-for-ransom capital" of the U.S.

Generally characterized as drug-related violence driven by gangs ripping off competitors, many of the kidnapping cases assigned to the city's robbery detectives involved masked gunmen armed with high-powered assault rifles and bulletproof vests, emulating tactical strike-team maneuvers to force others to forfeit drugs or cash.

But other experts said the crimes are primarily the work of small-time dealers trying to take advantage of the large number of stash houses scattered throughout the Valley, which serve as part of a nationwide distribution center for drug organizations.
Phoenix police developed a task force in September to reduce the violence that led to 368 reported kidnappings in 2008.....snipped...

Congressman Poe Travels to Texas-Mexico Border

I recently traveled to the Texas-Mexico border where I flew up and down the Rio Grande River and encountered at least one drug smuggling event.

I had the opportunity to meet with Sheriff Martin Cuellar of Webb County, TX and Sheriff Sigi Gonzalez of Zapata County, TX and the Border Patrol and was able to see areas most commonly used for illegal drug trafficking and locations where folks on the United States side of the border hide clothes and food for those crossing the river.

It is absolutely necessary that we utilize the Texas Army National Guard and the Texas Air National Guard along with local Sheriffs and Border Patrol to protect and secure our borders from the human smugglers and drug cartels.
