Discussion - March 6th.

Good Morning all,

I guess I'm the earlybird who gets to start the daily threads. LOL

I was reading over last night's thread and someone (sorry can't remember who) asked if Nicholas played online games like World of Warcraft and it got me to thinking why LE hasn't checked the home computer or computers? Or did they?

Also, was the laptop his or was it a company laptop? If it was a company laptop, can't they check his email through their server?

I'm no techie so I don't even know if that's even possible.

I hope we get some good news today.

Morning n/t - I guess I should have started it - I'm bringing over a couple of posts I made this morning on the March 5th thread...

Here are several links...it has Christine's first appeal where she asks for prayers and for people to put this on their blogs and MySpace. I'm not sure why she has not added Nicholas' picture to her MySpace.

The rest of the links deal with the appeal for money and her thank you.

I believe Seattle Matt said there would be a lot of people milling around that area that time of day, leaving work, walking places, etc. I posed a question yesterday about his walking up the hill. Did he have to pass the alleyway or an area where the homeless camp out?

Hi Rainy,

I asked about the going "up here" question last night also and I mentioned you. What else was "up here" and why would the coworker assume Nicholas was going to Safeway? Also, why wouldn't Nicholas say something like my car is parked up here or I'm going up here to get my car?

Sigh, I wish we had more answers.

I had the same thought about just saying "my car is up here", but figured someone would slam me...its got to where you have to tiptoe around here to even try and discuss this case.

I did have another thought after reading the pages last night. Christine stated that nothing unusual happened that day. Maybe it wasn't unusual for her, but maybe there was something unusual for Nicholas. He may have gotten wind of the layoffs. Now please understand he may be on the cutting edge of what his company wants and needs - I'm just throwing this out there. Even if the announcement wasn't official, employees talk. What if he heard thru the grapevine that he was going to be laid off. Christine freaked about his online business not doing as good as she thought and he may have just been on overload thinking about telling her of this possibility.

Possible job loss

Sometimes men take the loss of a job very personal - it affects their self-esteem and ego. If he did just get on overload, maybe he got in the car and just didn't go home. If they hadn't found the car, I could add maybe he just kept driving. If he did just leave I think he would have been near a mental breakdown as I do not think he would just deliberately out of selfishness walk off from them.

I've looked at the pictures several times - however I would not know from looking at them what type of foot traffic would be around the time Nicholas left work.

1.What types of garbage containers do they use in that area?
2.Do they have large 30/50 gal garbage containers or the bigger dumpster/roll offs?
3 Do they have these inside that parking garage?Just curious about that alley and inside the Parking garage.
4. What about at the Costco/Safeway? huge dumpsters behind store.

5. Was NF the type of person that would lend a hand if he thought someone/stranger needed help? Someone with car problems etc.

My husband is extremely friendly and talks to everyone EVEN strangers and would lend a hand to help anyone he thought needed help. He has even driven strangers/senior citizens home from the grocery store before.
Does anyone know if NF was like that because in todays times that is a DANGEROUS thing to do. [/*]
Great questions Snowbird. I hope someone from that area can fill us in.

Yeah that would be a big blow especially if he was just promoted a few months ago, IIRC.

I think Christine posted that on the blog about getting promoted to Art Director or something like that.

This is what Christine posted about the promotion.

*though it’s none of your business Nicholas was on a studio salary and not on an art director salary as he was up for his raise in the coming months. he was promoted last summer to the art director position.

So Nicholas was promoted last summer and was awaiting a raise in salary in the coming months. If he was one of the employees losing his job, I could understand how difficult that would be for him.

Not saying that's the case because we don't know if he was one of the employees who was going to get laid off but I find it interesting that the company hired a PI to help with the search.

Some morning thoughts:

1. Did they say if they found N's fingerprints on the car (door, handle)?

2. If they did, can they tell how recent they are or no?

3. If he reached his car, or had gotten in, that's one way you go with thoughts, etc.

4. If he did NOT reach his car, there's another way you go.

5. I wonder if they've looked inside any dumpsters in the area, or large garbage containers?

6. Are they even considering dragging the water in the area?

7. How about having an undercover cop, hanging out with the homeless for a few days?

8. Undercover cop in a few local bars, listening.

9. Have they gone through his desk at work?

10. If I were C, and I got the car back, I'd be searching that car, in every nook & cranny, where LE might have missed.

So he either didn't reach his car, because of foul play or abducted into another vehicle, or he went willingly with somebody else.

If he DID reach his car, he either met somebody elsewhere, or something happened after that.

You know, I'm reading all the wonderful suggestions being put forth by all of you and I'm sitting here scratching my head.

Wouldn't LE think of all these things? Like check the computer records, checking dumpsters, talking to the homeless, his social security number, etc etc.

Maybe they did all of this but haven't released any of the information to the public but it would be great to get some sort of update so some of it can be ruled out.

I hope I'm making sense.

Good Morning Everyone

I added Nicholas to my blog last night. This morning I checked my stats and saw that people got to my blog by searching his name, so I guess it's more exposure.

I'm off to a meeting but will be back to catch up.

Did Nicholas presumeably park his car on that road to safeway?

Also, wonder why he wouldn't have used the parking garage.

I like the theory that he found out that he was getting laid off because to me it makes a lot of sense as to what happened next. At first you wouldn't think that someone who has just received a promotion and was climbing the corporate ladder would be first on the list of layoffs. Then when you stop to think about it from a business perspective it starts to make sense. When it comes time to trim the fat in corportate America those in management positions are usually the first to go. There is usually more management then there are worker bees and they make more money.

So if Nicholas caught wind that he was going to be laid off, and yes there are usually leaks of such information, then who knows what kind of affect this could have had on him.

No...I couldn't see a problem either, except on the last one, the first digit of the thread number was missing (a 5 needed to be before the 4). I just cut and paste from the thread # and beyond, for the the two that didn't work onto a link that did. Must be a quirk with cut and paste.

Hmmmm...since reading your post I am now giving more thought to this than when we originally discussed it.

I had an employer in the past who occassionally would promote people (and give them the new title) but hold off the salary increase for 60-90 days for the person to prove they were the right fit and could perform the job requirements in the new position. This also allowed the employee time to master the new duties of the job before they were judged on their performance.

Christine stated NF was promoted in the summer and awaiting a raise in the coming months. Even assuming he was promoted as late as August, in February that would be six months and he was STILL waiting for the salary to go with the title.Something is strange here, that amount of time seems excessive and unreasonable to me and I don't know of anyone waiting this long for the salary increase-in fact it sounds illegal. He's performing the job duties and responsibilities for at least six months but isn't reaping the benefit of the salary for that increased responsibility. Now I'm wondering if during the six months he did something which was discovered and gave the employer some justification to hold off on the salary increase, but allowed NF to remain in the position to "save face". And if so, wouldn't this have made NF angry and resentful toward his employer, (if he felt the accusations were untrue, exaggerated, or unwarranted, or even if he was just pissed he got caught), OR maybe he was just scared after he got caught and concerned that whatever he did might become known in the company, community, or his church and cause him embarressment, or worse yet, cost him his job. And he felt if this became public knowledge he would have a hard time securing another job in this field he loved. Was he also worried CF would find out and be angry or disappointed. Was something discovered and NF was put on probation by withholding the salary increase, and this prior 'discovery' of a wrong doing justified holding back on the salary increase. Was something discovered a second time, or perhaps the employer was currently doing an internal investigation. Did this prior discovery of wrong doing also result in the employer hiring a PI to investigate further when the employer learned NF was missing. Couldn't all this and the knowledge the company was downsizing cause NF to be worried, stressed and depressed..then Christine announces she is pregnant with their third child. And there is the resignation from their church 2 days before he disappears......oh my.

Of course then my mind really takes off and I wonder if that is why they hired the PI - did they somehow feel responsible or guilty about something?

I agree. That's how it normally happens. They cut the higher paying jobs.

Also the fact that he got his promotion last summer and didn't get a raise right away is bizarre. Normally, the raise is given along with the promotion, doesn't it? That's how it's done where I work but maybe other places don't.

I believe Seattle Matt said there would be a lot of people milling around that area that time of day, leaving work, walking places, etc. I posed a question yesterday about his walking up the hill. Did he have to pass the alleyway or an area where the homeless camp out? [/*]

If indeed there is generally a lot of foot traffic in the area, then if Nicholas was abducted or accosted on his way to his car, or even in the Costco parking lot, it would have to have been done in such a way as to not draw any attention whatsoever to the situation. People do not necessarily even notice others going to and from their cars, unless something unusual is happening to make them stand out. Since, by all accounts, no-one except for the one co-worker remembered anything, which leads me to believe that he probably was not attacked by a random thug or homeless person. If he was abducted/accosted it sounds more like the works of true professionals to me. But for what motive? MOO/JMO/IMO

The fact that his company hired the PI is something that I still can't figure out either. In my mind, I really believe that there is a connection somehow to their reasons for doing so and NF's disappearance. JMO

Any time I've been promoted the raise was in the next paycheck. I don't know about anybody else here but I wouldn't be working in a new position, assuming new responsibilities and not get compensated for it. I think I would wait a month tops before I would be saying "show me the money".

This leads me to ask, how often was Nicholas paid? Weekly, bi-weekly, twice a month or once a month? If he's only paid once a month then I would give it two months to kick in.

Christine also mentioned Nicholas had to sign off on a project. I wonder what that means.

Here is what she posted.

2 months max, I would think. But not 6 or more. If he got the promotion in the summer that is way over the norm, imo.

This is a great addition or continuation of my thoughts. Perhaps he had to sign off on knowledge of the internal investigation, or an extension of holding off on the salary increase until the investigation was completed. Maybe the company hired PI is doing more investigating of NF's work product than actually looking for the missing man, to determine a reason for him skipping out. Or the PI is trying to find him because the employer plans to press charges.

LE IF YOU ARE READING HERE....PLEASE SUBPONEA NICHOLAS' PERSONNEL FILE.

Same here - if you get a promotion, the pay raise should be on the next check after the promotion is made known to you.
