Missing Marine Bought Bus Ticket To El Paso

http://www.kfoxtv.com/news/15034101/detail.html

Lauterbach's family last heard from her on Dec. 15, when she bought a ticket for a bus bound for El Paso.

She was due to give birth any day.

Brown added, “I had my insides knocked out with this negative information. I was about to cry."

Investigators believe the suspect fled early Friday morning, giving him at least an eight-hour head start on police in Jacksonville, N.C.

At this point, officials don't know why Lauterbach bought a bus ticket for El Paso

One of the things that will probably stick with me for a long time and forever

is that little hand," Brown said.

http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=4125035&page=1

<snip>

"The fetus was developed enough that the little hand was about the size of my thumb," Onslow County, N.C., Sheriff Ed Brown said. "The little fingers were rolled up and this is consistent with what we were looking for -- a pregnant lady who is the victim, Maria Lauterbach, and her unborn child."

Authorities Not Commenting if there is involvement of Cesar's wife

<snip>Brown declined to comment when asked if authorities thought Christina Laurean was involved or even aware of her husband's actions.

She is "heartbroken," said her mother, Debbie Sue Shifflet.

"I feel sorry for the other family," Shifflet said. "It's horrible what they're going through. My heart goes out to them."

One of Lauterbach's roommates, Melinda Artzer, a former Marine, said Lauterbach confided in her about the alleged rape.

"She proceeded to tell me that she came home one night," Artzer said. "She was walking ... in the barracks parking lot, towards the barracks, and someone came out of the dark and attacked her."

Reports Differ from Sheriff Ed & LA Marshal's Office

http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/01/13/...ine/index.html

<snip>

JACKSONVILLE, North Carolina (CNN) -- A city marshal in Shreveport, Louisiana, cast doubt Sunday on reported sightings there of a man charged with murder in the death of a pregnant Marine.

...

Sheriff Ed Brown of Onslow County, North Carolina, told reporters Sunday that "several witnesses ... validated" a report that Laurean was in a bus station in Shreveport, Louisiana.

....

However, Chief Deputy Charlie Caldwell of the Shreveport Marshal's Office told CNN affiliate KSLA-TV that he knew of no evidence that Laurean was in Louisiana.

"We haven't had any confirmed sightings of [that] individual," he said.

Authorities Spoke with Laurean's Family

http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5j...hy6PgD8U5MGPO0

<snip>

Brown declined Monday to discuss what detectives had learned from Laurean's family, promising an update at a midmorning news conference. But the sheriff again confidently predicted that Laurean will be caught.

"You're never gone for good when law enforcement is after you," Brown said Monday. "It may be two days or two weeks, ten days or ten years, but you're never gone for good."

VAN SUSTEREN: Yes, because he's — I mean, if he's on the road, he's got to survive. Do you know if he has any money?

BROWN: I don't know about his financial standings. I feel sure that Mr. Laurean probably has sources that will provide him with funding, if he needs it. I think there's probably sources that Mr. Laurean has that will provide him with good advice. And that good advice will be, Son, turn yourself in.
