Samantha Renee Smith, 22, MSG 11/5/06 from Clinton, SC

I hope this is not a repeat thread but I could not find her so I figured it would not hurt to post it.

http://www.wyff4.com/news/13383037/detail.html

It sure sends chills up my spine when I read "Last seen by boyfriend". We just see it all to often.

I'm so glad you posted this. I read it today on the WYFF4 website too. I don't recall hearing about this when it happened, so I'm glad it's getting some attention now.

Seems like this young woman was dealing with some emotional issues from the article at the link. She liked to hike so maybe she went hiking and something happened. I would think the boyfriend would be the main person of interest so maybe LE does not think he is involved.

Hope she is found soon.

I have never posted before, just read and pray for missing. For some reason Samantha Renee Smith has been on my mind all day. I do/did not know her or her family. She disappeared from a nearby town, about ten miles away. When I got what little info I could find on her to pass on, I realized that today is her birthday. THAT gave me chill up my spine. I called our local radio station this morning to ask about the case and Public Safety Officer from Clinton called in and said they had no new leads. They keep saying "No sign of foul play". She is gone. She did not vanish.
Praying for Samantha Renee Smith!
Billie

pandasc,
I would recommend contacting either RCOOKE or Kelly Jolkowski on these forums for suggestions in dealing with Samantha's disappearance. Both are a wealth of information and resources. They both have missing children who were considered adults at the time of disappearance. I really think they could give you some good advice on getting Samantha's name out there, and point you in the right direction.

I have tried to find an article from when she first went missing. I thought it might have names, like her boyfriend maybe. I can't find anything other than what we already have.

Thank you Pan for the links. I keep asking local what they know, but keep coming up with nothing. At least I did get the boyfriends name in one like. Did you notice, one like said she lived with a female, the other said male? I just can't believe they did not follow up more on this. She did not just vanish! Praying they will find her soon.

Does anyone know how we would get this onto a bigger broadcaster? Or would we be abe to do anything since she is just my grandfather's niece? Her mother would have to demand that it go national? huh?

Have you talked to her Mother? Being related you might be the best one to get her involved. If talking with her, ask if there are any meeting coming up about Samantha Renee. Maybe to search the area again or hand out flyers. I will send links to some tv station to see if we get a response. I wish we could get Nancy Grace or Greta involved. I think they have covered the steroid use enough.
Again, I did not know Samantha Renee, her family or anyone involved, but I live about 10 miles away and I don't remember even hearing about her missing until the update in May.

And her father is now passed away, so there's no way that we can talk to him----I wonder how you would get anything on Nance Grace~~~ I will have to look and do what I can

The best way to get/keep her in the media is to get new information or stories about her out there. If the media feels there is something new to report, they are more likely to agree to do a story. Other than that, my best advice is to find an organization that helps family's dealing with a missing loved one. Many of them will have contacts in the media, and know the best way to get the story out.

Pan,
Could you try and talk to her mother since this is about her daughter missing? I would think she would want help from anyone she could get it from. What about her sister? Does she just have one sister? Any brothers? Any more relatives in this area? I know Samantha was living in Cliinton and listed as Newberry woman in one article, does that mean her Mother lives in Newberry? Where does her sister live? Did Samantha work? I know she went to Piedmont tech. I just wish I could do something to help. Our police departments and Sheriff's Department are so overworked, understaffed and underpaid.
Citizens should do what they can.
I think that the one statement that her Mother made that Samantha was suffering from depression and suicidal thoughts may have made people just assume she ran away or killed herself. I did not know her or her family, but I just don't get that feeling. And she did not just vanish.

Billie~~
I don't have any contact with her mother. She lives in Monetta and her sister lives in Saluda. Right after we found out that she was missing we got her sister's cell phone number from her grandmother and called and my grandmother left a voice mail and then she never called back and changed her number. Turthfully I don't think she was close to any of them, I mean why would she go to Clinton and be living with her 40 something year old "boyfriend"? My grandfather has talked to Clinton Police dept. and SLED and all they tell him is what the news has stated. I am just tring to get her story nationwide incase she did go to another state---somone might have seen her somewhere!!! I just feel that something ain't right with this whole thing----why would her mother wait until 6-7 months after she is missing to talk to the news about her? I don't know what's not right I just think that something isn't.

Thanks

pandasc

prayers & help

I have been trying to get something going on the disappearance of Samantha Renee Smith. Next month, Nov. 5th, she will have been gone one year. I have contacted the LE over the weekend but no response. I do know that some in that department have school this week. Kelly J. contacted them a couple of weeks ago and asked that he have the family get in touch with her. I haven't heard from her, so they probably haven't. DingyBat and Harlette Ohare.(sp?) are making new fliers for me and I have an office supply that said they would print some out for me for free.
I don't know why it is so hard to get in touch with her family.
As I stated in my earlier post, I did not know Samantha or any of her family, but she only lived about 10-15 miles from me. I only found out she was missing in May when one news channel did a six months missing segment.
This weekend I found on Google an article from the IndexJournal in Greenwood, SC about Samantha and her Mother saying they had spent their savings looking for her.
Samantha had a very distant cousin that posted on here named with nic Pandasc, but I can't get in touch with her either. Coldwater was to send her my email address and ask her to write. The whole thing is so strange. Please pray first for Samantha and also pray that IF I am supposed to be doing this that God will open the doors that need to be opened. I have questioned maybe she disappeared to get away from an abusive relationship, but I just don't think so. I would hate to find someone that does not want to be found. She was 22 and her boyfriend that last saw her was about 47.???
Thanks for reading this long post and for praying.

Thank you Ma Fitz, I did not know you were from SC. I live in Laurens.
Pandasc, I am glad to hear from you.
To All: I have not been able to get in touch with Samantha's family. I have written LE twice.
Kelly has place her on the WWW.projectjason.org site and has written the LE or called, and has not heard anything from them.
Melanie from ribbon tribute has put Samantha on her site. They both have said they are willing to help. Melanie called LE and said they did not pick up. I found an article form the Index Journal over the weekend, (which I can't get now without paying for it), that said her Mother was "desperate to find her daughter".
The only thing I know left to do is call the guy that wrote the article in the Index Journal.
If anyone has a suggestion, please let me know. I told Melanie that when I went to her site after getting her email, and seeing Samantha's picture on the front page, I just sat and cried. OH, she said Samantha would not also be on the Laci and Conner site.
It is like L&C. Thanks again,
Billie

Just found this thread for Samantha and am heavy hearted to think she has fallen through the cracks. Seems to me that if her Mom was "desperate to find her", she would talk to ANYONE, especially someone trying to get her story out there . . . sounds a bit fishy! Praying answers are found regarding her disappearance!

Hey all!!

I have been trying to read over this thread while maintaining my own for someone else.

Obviously, this one has caught my heart and attention, because I too...was born and raised in South Carolina & still living here...

Please know if there's anything that I can do, I'm here (I'm getting a good bit of experience at these things, unfortunately)...

Always in my Prayers!

Winnie,
I was just reading some of your postings on Brandi . I hope you get good news on her soon. I thought when I saw you were from SC maybe you could help with Samantha. I live in Laurens, about 10-15 miles from where Samantha was living before she vanished. I had bee feeling like I was hitting a brick wall until Kelly put Samantha on her site, project jason and Melanie put her on ribbon tribute. Melanie said she will also be on Laci's site.
I may have finally gotten another break. I received an email from one of the journalist that has done articles on Samantha and he gave me her Mom's cell phone number. I called it this morning about 10 am. I just left a voice mail of who I am, phone number and that I and friends, (all of you) are willing to help find Samanta. And that it would all be free. One article said she had spent all her savings looking for Samantha. I have called Capt. Butch Pressley at Clinton Public Safety and left messages and sent him emails twice. He has not replied to anything.
All the info to contact him is in the articles if anyone else wants to try. Kelly and Melanie both have tried and got no where.
I can't do much more without the family permission.
She has been gone one year next month. Grammybear knows how I have agonized over this, and feel like I have about driven Kelly crazy with my emails to her. And I don't know Samantha or anyone else involved. I just tell people I am a Christian Mother with a tender heart who just can't let go of this.
Any suggestions sure will be welcome.

Well let's just say, I'm from one of those big "P" towns in Newberry...
a graduate of Piedmont (saw Samantha went there)...as well

Sadly, I've never heard Samantha's story. And I haven't been able to gather much by reading the articles.

So, what is the story? Any theories?
Why hasn't the LE been more involved? Has foul play ever been suspected?

Is it thought she ran away? Has anyone ever claimed to have seen her?

What's the roommate say about the last time together? How about teachers? Was she enrolled in school that semester?

Could Samantha have gotten tangled up with any dangerous? drugs? How about the boyfriend? What's his story...

I can't believe I have not heard from Samantha's Mom. Maybe she is having me checked out. I can't find out anything about the boyfriend, Walt Shockley. Someone said he passed poly, but that is not official. One article Chief John Thomas said he was, can't remember if person of interest or what. They keep saying "no sign of foul play"..In other words, no bloody knife. No blood trail. I don't know when she was reported, or who reported her missing. Pandasc, who is a distant relative, said Samanth'a Mother waited six months to start looking for her. To the best of my memory, all of the articles and I know the video from WYFF said she left and took NOTHING. The Index Journal said that Walt Shockley said "they had an argument, she grabbed her purse and left". Now, to me, that is significant. They keep making too big a deal saying she had left for short periods of time and had attempted suicide several times. I would love to know when she left, for how long, when she attempted suicide, how, etc.
I told Kenny Maple that his article in the Index Journal was different from the others and he wrote me back and said he got his info about her grabbing her purse from the police report. That maybe the others had seen a different report.
I will let ya'll (LOL) know if I hear anything from anyone.

All that we know here is that HER room mate which one says that it was a female reported her missing 2 or 3 days after she has been gone and she didn't take anything with her.......and the last that I heard is that Walt didn't take a poly test because of all the medicine that he was on...........kind of hard to determine what's the truth or not....huh???----believe me I look everyday on here for something new about the case I have even been on myspace to see if maybe she just ran away....but we need to get nation wide with this, and I hate that it took so long to do (almost a year) but we need to let other people in other states see this.....

Thanks Breezy, but no thanks needed. I wish I could do more, but running into a 'personal snag'.

I talked to Samantha's Mom last night. She doesn't have internet and I think she said neither did her daughter. Not sure about that.
Evidently she did not see Samantha very often before she went missing. She said that Samantha was missing 17 days before it was reported, and then wasn't reported by the boyfriend, but by her sister. Not sure how sister found out. A friend of Samantha's told Samantha's mom that a week before she vanished that Samantha had cut her wrist and had to be taken to the hospital, but her Mom didn't know it. Samantha had gone to see her mom before doing it, according to the friend, but she was not home. She had gone on the road with her husband working.
Samantha was working at Greenwood State Park, according to her Mom. I have not read that anywhere.
She had an 89 Mustang. I asked if he had a vehicle and the Mom said that is what they were using. I asked if it was searched and she doesn't know. She said it in a salvage yard! I asked if it is the compound lot for the police and she said she didn't think so.
This is one of the strangest parts. She said she hired a PI. That he won't give her the results of what he found. He said he had to give it to the police. I asked her if she paid him and she said yes. ?? She also said they did not give the boyfriend a poly because he was on some kind of meds. I had been hearing through the grapevine that he took one and passed
I asked if she thought Samantha was still alive, and she said, "No, not really". But she does not think she killed herself.
You, know, if she did, she didn't bury herself, so why can't she be found?

How strange that the PI won't give her info about what he found but yet she's the one who hired and paid him. It seems that by telling her he could only give the info to LE that he must have found evidence of a criminal nature. What did LE tell her? Will they not give her the info that the PI gave them? Very strange indeed. May God bring Samantha home safe.

flyer

Hey all,
I took a flyer in the flowers bakery store to put up. The lady said she would put it there at check out. Well, this big, jolly black lady come in and see it. Well, she just had a fit! I've seen her!! I'm sure I've seen her! I asked where. "Oh, around." I asked around where? around Laurens? Yes, I know I've see this girl somewhere. I asked if it had been in the last year? She said yeah, I'm pretty sure, where did she work. I told her Greenwood State Park, K-mart in Greenwood. She got her granddaughter get out of the car and look at it, and you could tell she hadn't .
The lady did take the flyer with her.

Can any of you come to Laurens for a vigil, or balloon lift? I don't know if we could do a search. That would have to be done by a search group. I will be talking to Samantha's Mom tomorrow. She doesn't have internet. I suggested the lift or vigil and she said she didn't know how. My heart jumps ahead of my brain a lot of the time, so I said, I'LL HELP YOU !!! I don't have a clue how to start. If we just had someone that has ever done one.
It would be great if it could be done Nov.3. She vanished on the 5th, but that is on a Monday.
I have been thinking, who would donate balloons, helium, etc?
Or candles, cups, etc.
Most of all volunteers.
MaFitz, I haven't had a chance to email you yet, but that would sure be a long drive for you. But I sure could use the help if we do get something going.
Pandasc, could you come and help? Any more relatives that would?
