to me a man of good character in texas was one who worked hard to provide for his family and never, never went on public assistance . the problem with the flds men they could not ever make enough money to pay their church assessments and take care of that many children. if the texas men knew that they are on welfare, of any kind, including food stamps, medicaid, social security for the old mens young brides children, etc. they would not qualify for men of good character.
