Original Chloroform in Trunk Findings

Found it! The original source is the FINAL FORENSICS REPORT released in June. The relevant parts are below and bolding is mine:

"Looking at the integrated areas under the peaks, the control carpet had approximately 10,270 area counts and the Florida trunk sample had approximately 386,200,000 area counts. 10ng of injected standard yielded an area count of approximately 8,240,000 indicating that the Florida trunk sample had an amount of chloroform present which was in the low parts per million range. Typical concentrations seen during human decompositional events of adults yields amounts in the low parts per trillion range.

...and...

Methanol extracts of the tire well scrapings showed many diverse compounds (Acetic acid, Octadecane, etc). Acetic acid (in an acid environment) and/or acetate ion (in an alkaline environment) are by-products of making chloroform with acetone and chlorine.

So....

Normal concentrations from decomp is in the low parts per trillion. The concentration found in Casey's trunk was in the low parts per million. Still small amounts, but certainly much much higher. Ridiculously much higher.

Also, as far as the plastic bottles go, I'm sure a scientist or someone hoping to store chloroform for a long time would be sure to be careful with the container they used. Someone intended on using it in short order of Casey's brainpower? Probably not so much concerned about that.

Mathematical translation: chloroform found in the trunk was about a million times greater than it should have been.

Thank you Spots! I thought it was a million but I'm never sure I have my zeros right with these big numbers!!!

I don't think she was concerned about storage either. It was probably made for one purpose, and one time use. MOO

Not that I ever doubted who murdered this baby, but I am totally nauseated by the breaking news earlier today. As bad as I thought....didn't even guess it was this bad. Amazing.

I was actually physically ill. Amazing.

Well this new certainly changed my opinion about what happen. I really believed this was an accident (I guess the mother in my just could accept something else). I think I kept hoping it was.

I just found out about this, just reading the posts. So now I'm wondering. What was the exact scenerio that let up to Caylee;s death? Inject her in the car, drive around, telling herself she will find a place to dump her, then kind of panics and tosses her out, (along with the syringe in to the woods? Did Casey put her in the car with her conscious, telling her they were going for a drive, and then inject her?

This other drug mixed along with the chloroform bothers me. I understand it would be difficult to get. Would that be an opening for the defense?

The reason you can't use plastic is that it can react with the chloroform and emit a gas that can kill you. Maybe she didn't know that though.

Too bad she didn't try that.

She probably didn't, but thanks for clarifying. I thought it was just the erosion of the choloroform and the container. Yikes! It's really a shame she didn't get sick or pass out during this process - maybe she would've had second thoughts

Where does a person buy chloroform?

And then store it in Gatorade bottles? Use it with a syringe?

Did I understand that right?

Maybe it had nothing to with Casey at all ... debris left by somebody else?
