This is so sad. Britney was a friend of mine. We worked together and sometimes chatted. She always had a smile on her face which made her fun to work with. She was upbeat, happy and excited for life. Its a shame this tragedy that has occured. You had so much potential with your life, and it was cut short by another person's uncontrollable rage. I'm going to be attending this funeral in a few days here, and it is going to be such a sad occasion. There will be a lot of people showing up, as she was respected by all for her upbeat personality, friendliness and enthusiasm for loving life. The good truly do die young. This "step-father" who has been charged in the first degree murder of my friend, is in courts Monday afternoon. There are many skeptical, hard to interpert details to this case which make it especially horrendous. I have had an inside edge hearing details about this case from close friends/family themselves prior to media consumption and I'm speechless to some of the horrendous acts Britney must have been put through. We all share your pain Britney. Nobody should have to live with such a monster at home. I have had other close friends to Britney tell me, what a loose cannon this step father was, is, and always has been. Not 6 months ago, he was aggressively assualting another man who made passes at his wife. Beat the hell out of the guy. A huge problem with rage, this Brad Rietze. To which he deserves Life imprisionment Without The Possibility of Parole. Could a person as agressively motivated ever be rehabilitated to reassimilate himself back into society? Never. This man has problems with his temper, indefinatley. On multiple occasions "Brad" is remembered entering Britney's workplace and accosting her at her sales till regarding trivial indiscretions. Whatever was apparent was irritating to Brad. What kind of man, takes the life away of a promising young woman? The lowest type of man, known to mankind. Brad Rietze deserves ALL of the punishment acceptable by Law to deliver. Trust me, on the inside, I cannot see other inmates taking too lightly a "man" who has potentially sexually assualted his step daughter, murdered her, and hid her with inside a boxspring matress. We will always miss your smile, charm, wit, and terrific personality Britney Nora McInnes. RIP

I'm so sorry for your loss. Brittney's step father doesn't sound like a nice man at all. The step father kind of sounds like a classic domestic abuser. I mean when you state he was coming into your work and being a toad. I have allot of questions; was Brittney's mother being abused? What about her brothers and sisters? This is just sickening to know the man could have sexually abused her.

When I first read this I suspected that the stepfather had had an improper sexual relationship with her. No doubt he was set into a rage seeing other boys her own age take an interest in her. Poor girl. I think we are going to find out he had been sexually abusing her for a long time.

How awful. :( I've been reading articles since this was posted and looking at pictures of her. What a beautiful girl she was with such a pleasant, wholesome smile. I have no clue what was inflicted on her before her death, but I was scared that it involved sexual abuse...and hoped desperately that I was wrong.

I just don't understand how these murders and abuses against children - keep happening. BTW- I am very sorry for your loss, as well as everyone else who knew Brittney. What a painful thing to have to deal with.

There has been no mention of any sexual abuse in the news whatsoever. At this time, sexual assault is not a factor in the murder, and no related charges have been laid.

I'm just saying ... cuz I don't want to see a rumour take on a life of it's own and become fact in the discussion

My guess is that the first degree charges will be reduced to a 2nd degree conviction (anger/rage murder) and he'll get 10 years minus double time for time served. He could be out in 6 years

If others come forward and give evidence that this was an all round nasty guy with a history of violence, intimidation, & aggression, then he could get a longer sentence. That is, a one off "uncontrollable rage" is one thing, an escalating pattern of abuse is something entirely different.

Well, I wasn't saying that sexual abuse was involved - I said that I fear it was... And I still fear it was. The reason I feared it was based on the fact that he has been charged with first degree murder, which based on all the articles I have read is based on a killing happening during a commission of another crime.

Quote from an article:

First-degree murder implies either pre-meditation or a killing in the commission of another offence, such as sexual assault, forcible confinement or kidnapping.

..just curious, on what basis do you believe it will be downgraded to second degree murder?

That is why I also suspected a sexual assault - that comment (above) is noted in many articles - the reason it is First Degree Murder. I hate to question what else went on in that household or for how long she may have been abused by this man.

This man, her "stepfather" had been in her life since she was three (or four) years old according to articles, and instead of protecting her as a "father" should - he did this to her.

I can't imagine what her family is going through....and if someone knew he was harming her I would only hope that charges could be laid against them as well (for not protecting her) - but in most cases that does not happen.

I just wonder - was the rest in the family in that house on Sunday, while her body was hidden and didn't even know she was there? or...were they away somewhere until Monday? I can't imagine, finding out I spend 24 hours in a house, with the body of a family member there hidden away. My gosh.

Rest in Peace Brittney - Justice will come...in due time.

From the related articles ... "A first-degree murder charge implies premeditation or a killing during another offence, such as sexual assault or forcible confinement."

I would be surprised to learn that it was premeditated. It may have been something like forcible confinement, but that would be difficult to argue because she was in her own home, and confined by a parent - which isn't all the unusual for someone under the age of 18. It could also be sexual assault, but there would be some evidence of this ... some history like being withdrawn, or antisocial. It doesn't sound like this was the case.

There are other cases where first degree charges are brought, but where they are not successfully argued ... and the result is 2nd degree.

I agree with you. I fear sexual abuse was involved too. Well I should say that is what the article has led me to believe.
