From the article:
".... On Nov. 18, as crews exhumed Haston's casket, it broke open along the side and bottom, revealing a clear, plastic bag, knotted and filled with the bones.
The family turned the remains over to authorities the next day. Authorities then forwarded them to the medical examiner's office in Nashville. On Dec. 14, an investigator notified the Sheriff's Department the remains were those of an adult human ..."

This may be a stupid question but couldn't they have been her bones?

Why would her remains be in a plastic bag inside the coffin? Confused...

I thought maybe an autopsy had been performed and it's not a stretch to say some funeral homes have been less then kind to the remains of deceased.

Unless the family buried her that way, I'd say no.
These were in a plastic bag tied shut under the casket. Plus the family did alert the authorities.
Yes, I became confused by the part that said " it broke open along the side and bottom" thinking possibly the bones fell through the bottom.
The article makes no mention of her actual remains.

OM..... I hope that is not the case.

Wouldn't be the first time.

That makes sense... although funeral homes don't do autopsies here.
Wouldn't they have been organs though instead of a 'bag of bones'?
Yes, the funeral home does not do autopsies but they are the one's that pick the body up afterward and prepare it for burial. Organs would surely have decomposed by now.

Creepy!
I do see where perhaps it could be from an autopsy - perhaps the coroner sent them like that to the funeral home with the body. But (maybe a stupid question here) why would they remove bones in an autopsy? I thought they just removed organs, but I could be wrong.
The article didn't say whether the bones were a full set or not. If it is a complete set of bones from another human being, it would almost seem as if someone at the funeral home would have been the one put them there.
If you find any more details on this, please post it, it will be interesting to find out how this plays out.

I am understanding it to be that Rosa died in 1970 of cancer. That in exhuming her remains for reburial in a family plot, her casket broke from the bottom and that someone elses remains that were in a bag fell out.
Like maybe someone was murdered and hidden in Rosa's casket knowing that it was about to be buried. Just think, if the family would not have exhumed her remains, there would still be a missing person out there.
There is no plausible explanation as to why there was another body in that coffin with Rosa. And the only culprits would be the funeral home or the cemetary personnel. And I'm guessing the funeral home.
Do coffins seal when you close them?

I went back and re-read the article and you could possibly right.
I was always under the impression that coffins do seal when they are shut. Although I may be wrong, have been before.
This is really wierd. Hope we find out more.

I*'m curoius what the bag/sack actually is. and its not that they would have removed the bones, its that the remains are over 30 years. probably the "sack" of bones is whats actually left of the unknown decedent.
