"BOSTON - On many days, the metal detectors sit silent at the busiest courthouse in Maine.
People arriving for everything from child custody hearings to murder trials walk through the machines without a beep. The detectors are off because the court can't pay for officers to run them."

Judge Childers got so much criticism in Birmingham for her decision to get armed. Its odd - we are not so far from Atlanta that people here would not have heard about Brian Nichols. Perhaps they don't watch "Disorder in the Courts" and have some other excuses to remain totally clueless about the dangers for judges and their staff. Several City Council members publicly criticised this judge for taking the action to protect her courtroom. :sad:

Oh, I dont blame them one bit for carrying a gun. I am a bit dismayed to think our country is so broke we cannot provide adequate security at courthouses and other venues.
