A Louisa County jury has recommended a 100-year sentence for a Henrico County man convicted of five counts of soliciting a child for sex over the Internet.
Prosecutors say 55-year-old George Spiker met what he believed was a 13-year-old girl online last year and that he offered her clothing, jewelry and money for college while soliciting her for sex and exposing himself to her using a webcam.
It's about time that a harsh sentence recommendation has been levied against this sort of crime. The man has a history and am sure this wasn't his first act like this online.
I hope this sets a path for the rest of the country to follow when dealing with child sex offenders.

I'm happy to see that kind of sentence, too. But will he get out early? There was a guy in NC who was sentenced to 20 years for indecent liberties with a minor, but they let him out after only 8 years. Now he's back in prison, charged with raping a minor.

I surely hope not judging by his age.
Child molestors and rapists should all be sentenced to life WOP in my opinion...there's no changing them even if they are 99 years old.
I laugh when someone says they should all be casterated....thats not going to change their behavior at all.

I would prefer to see their hands cut off and their eyes poked out over castration, but that's just me.

The sad fact is that they let the pedophiles out of Prison, as fast as the Judges who put them in, give them light sentences.
IMO, pedophiles are the filth of the earth, and should be sentenced to LWOP the FIRST time they are convicted of doing their very evil deeds on our children.
Lets hope this 100 year sentence is a new beginning in our Criminal Justice System, and that he spends every day of it, or dies before then.

The Louisa Circuit Court has sentenced a Henrico man to a total of 100 years in prison on five counts of soliciting a minor over the Internet for sex.
A jury convicted George Spiker, 55, in January of five counts. During the sentencing phase, the jury learned about Spiker’s prior conviction of sexually assaulting a babysitter in West Virginia, and they recommended 20 years in prison on each count.
Judge Timothy K. Sanner imposed the jury’s recommendation Monday. According to the sentencing commission, this is the greatest sentence in Virginia history for this offense.
“We are pleased that Spiker will not have the opportunity to harm another child,” Louisa Commonwealth’s Attorney Thomas A. Garrett said.
Garrett prosecuted this case along with deputy commonwealth’s attorney Rusty McGuire.
