I absolutely never order soda. Don't like it. Iced tea or water for me. Or wine or whatever.

Once in a while I will have a soda. I used to drink more when I was younger; but really, when you look at ... it it's a very expensive drink that is basically flavored sugar water with bubbles.
Where I live now we have excellent water, and I have learned to appreciate it. It quenches my thirst where soda does not.
Now, if we're going to talk sinful and expensive drinks, put me down for a bottled Starbuck's Mocha Frappuccino -- found in many grocery and convenience stores. I like it iced cold. [JMO * Themis]

They said the water was bad, too. It's not the beverage itself, it's the machine it comes out of probably.
http://www.cnn.com/2010/HEALTH/01/08/soda.fountain.bacteria/index.html
"A Hollins undergraduate microbiology student accidentally discovered that water from a restaurant beverage dispenser contained bacteria while completing a homework assignment. When the results came back, this piqued the interest of faculty and students.
Godard and her colleagues acquired 90 beverages of three types, (sugar soda, diet soda, water) from 30 fast food restaurants...."

Sodas when dinning out are at the minimum of $1.99 probably much more like $2.10 or more. Even though you get free refills that is just crazy to spend that much. And if it is a family of 4 and everyone orders a soda you are talking $8. I used to wait tables so it's best to order water and save that money for an appetizer or dessert that you can share.

Also the machines that I used to clean were broken down nightly. We pulled all knobs off at the end of the night and wiped the machine down with a cloth to get rid of the syrup. The knobs then were soaked over night and replaced in the morning. It really depends on if the restaurant you are visiting is "clean". And if you want to know how clean a place is I always check the restaurant inspection scores before I go to eat out.
Ours for Tennessee can be located here: http://tn.state.gegov.com/tennessee/.
It is something I highly recommend. It's all about how clean the place is.

I wonder if they bothered to study the cooking and cleaning habits in their study at these establishments...IMO, what was found in the soda's will be found in everything else in these places.

From the link provided up above.
The researchers are uncertain how the bacteria got inside the beverage machines.
"It could be from dispensing with a hand that wasn't clean or using wet rags to wipe down the machine," Godard said. "We haven't done the work to really identify those potential sources and how these bacteria get established."

Here, Dr. Pepper is one of the lowest selling product Pepsi has in this market. It just doesn't sell, therefore limited amounts kept in the inventory.
My cousin in Texas loved the stuff..too much, she drank 24 a day and it ate away at her stomach.

Kind of like my husband likes a beer now and then, but he can buy a 6 pack for super bowl, and still have 4 beers left come July 4th.

Oh sure. BLAME all the poor, innocent, little spiders.
What do they use to fill those dispensers with? If they're just grabbing some dirty, dusty jug and pouring soda in that way, not bothering to use disinfectant to clean anything or wiping with an already dirty cloth, then I can see why there'd be lots of germs and bacteria. Not all employee's care, particularly in gas stations or fast food joints. Ew. :chicken:

LOL Amy. I got a 64 oz cooler cup from Pilot. It's insulated so it keeps ice and soda good for hours. I love to fill it up w/water and or a fountain diet pepsi if i'm going to be out and about all day. This is not good. Whahhhhhhhhhhh .. It's so funny I bought Pepsi Mx, and was drinking quite a bit of it but I thought something was wrong with me around that time, like my nerves were out of wack, jittery. Then one day it hit me duh I was probably drinking a 2 liter a day of it!
Now for some reason I just love Coke Zro. That is my first choice to buy.
So did anyone ever try to be like Laverne (Laverne and Shirley) and drink coke and milk?!!

I'm trying to get my son to stop drinking sodas. He drinks about a liter a day, and it is having a very adverse effect on his teeth.
Here is an article I sent him, think it will work?
I'm sure you know that your favorite fizzy sugary elixir is not doing a thing for your waistline, but did you also know it's rotting your teeth? You might think it is the sugar, but you would be wrong. Sodas rank high in acidity, and when it comes to your mouth, that acidity can speed up the development of cavities.

I knew a girl when I was in my 20's who had a baby, whose bottle was always hanging out her mouth filled with Coke,
She could not understand why the baby teeth were rotting away. I told her give him formula or at least milk..you would have thought I had 2 heads

I almost never drink soda. At home, I pretty much stick with San Pellegrino h2o and home brewed teas. Sometimes, I drink sugar free Powerade or G2 if I feel the need for extra hydration. Very occasionally, I get a craving for Mtn Dew diet Code Red, but I think that's still sweetened with aspartame which I avoid, so it's a very rare treat. When we're out, it's usually water. I never order soda out. I think all of the sugar free fountain versions are sweetened with aspartame. I really like unsweetened tea, but since I worked in restaurants during college, I only drink it if I'm feeling brave and throwing all caution to the wind (tea brewing isn't a very clean thing at many places).

Me too, and this is a recent thing for me. I've been an ice tea drinker all my life, and in the winters here I don't make sun tea. So I starting drinking Coke, and now I just call it my sugar fix because that's what it is. I've got to stop drinking it really. It's bad for you.
I don't sugar my tea very much, and I don't drink well water so....my options are limited. I'm upset with myself for drinking coke so much.
I rarely drink fountain soda as I've known about the bacteria for a long time. I'm a germ freak. :D
And a starbucks Frap freak as well. I alternate days. some days its soda and some days it's a Frap, on Ice and I suck them down. I cannot find the Cinnamon Dulce here either. Someone is stealing it all from the store before I get to them !! grrrrrrrrrrr
hehe
