I hate to ask the obvious, but wouldn't it have been easier and less costly to have a TSA agent or two standing at the exit to prevent such a thing?

I thought they "tightened" airport security given the Christmas incident?

Things that make ya go hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Im humming too R~O~S..something as simple as a oneway gate affair..with notfications accordingly..only needs one guard at that gate..not an army...IF someones tries to leave a secure area..then it can be vetted accordingly...Geesh..ya would think after so many years that airports would have figured that out?????

Seems a rather logical simple step, don't ya think? It's not like airport security is a new concept.

It doesn't matter what's put in place we're as vulnerable as our weakest link & we've got a lot of em.

Oh geesh....such a standard thing to have an agent at that exit.

What if they don't find the man?

Could be a man who isn't listening to announcements (I'm assuming they are requesting person to come forward), or is too embarrassed to present himself, or English may not be his mother tongue, (may be a traveler from elsewhere.)

HAHA! I just put the same thing up on the temp. forum. Something like "Hey you, stop!" would have worked with a security guard there, right? Nope. Close the airport and back up flights on the East coast. Nice.

I was just reading about the new security procedures going into effect for citizens from 14 specific nations trying to fly to the US. I sure hope those procedures are more efficiently handled than the current procedures appear to be.

I can't remember ever seeing an unguarded exit, not in the last few years anyway.

I wish I could say I've ever even noticed.

The terminal exits seem to be wide open as opposed to the entrances. I'm usually so frazzled from the boarding & the flight, I just can't get out of there fast enough. I never flew well even before 911.

I avoid it like the plague now.

It's like Lynda said, the signage is bad, the airport staff not helpful and the TSA agents seem to assume everyone knows the drill as opposed to actually directing people. Smaller airports are easier, but international airports bite big time & I speak English pretty well, language isn't the problem.

So what does TSA do about a situation where some guy may have stashed something in the secure area and another fellow who goes through the security properly picks it up?

Not that I believe such a thing is likely (just some poor sod who went through the wrong exit IMO), but if TSA is evacuating etc, how are they going to deal with the possibilty? Search every nook and cranny for a package or bottle or container or what have you?

Gee, that terminal might be closed for days.

I flew into Bush Intercontinental airport a few weeks ago and noticed the guy at the exit to my terminal because he looked like he was board to tears.

If they do it right it will be.

FWIW I agree with you, probably some guy who just took a wrong turn.

But a full search is absolutely in order once he was out of their sight for so much as a minute. Three ounces of powder and less than an ounce of liquid is all it takes & that isn't hard to stash.

The other night when I picked up my daughter at LAX, a TSA guy kept watching me as I stood outside the secure area, I was pretty much alone since most people wait for arrivals in the baggage claim area. I had a camera and was intending to take a pic of my kid coming out, and scoping for a good view. He called another agent who approached me and asked me questions...who was I waiting for, flight #, time of arrival etc. I guess they needed to be sure I wasn't checking things out for possibly nefarious purposes.

TSA in LA are pretty alert on anything out of the ordinary and I wasn't even a traveler.

Makes me wonder, ....if somebody wants to do something, they would first scope a particular airport to check where security might be lax.

I am sure they are happy to finally be getting on thier way I am starting to think we have to be more worried about the security FGS no one should be able to go into a secure area without being checked 1 time is going to be the time something horrible happens and I sure hope we are not being tested because we seem to be failing. IMO

I think of all the lapses we have heard about, then mulitply it by 4, for those cases that are kept away from the public. We are being tested, and IMO, its just a matter of time before we see a major catastrophy. I know, I know, thinking/saying as much makes me a "doomer", but imo, the signs are all there. Its just a matter of time.
