View Full Version : Please keep my DD in prayer

My DD is 13yrs old. Turns 14 on Monday. She is currently laying in the bed bedside me, in the hospital. They did an appendectomy this afternoon. Thank goodness she's currently not hurting. Unfortunately, not only was the appendix bad, they found 'something' on her left ovary, and fallopian tube. Not sure what that 'something' is yet., Surgeon said no endometriosis, not a tumor, not a cyst, but the fallopian tube is blocked, and there is inflammation, and infection in the ovary, and tube. No idea WHY it's there. A portion was sent to pathology, so hopeful they'll find out what's going on at her follow up appt. Surgeon said pain may continue as he doesn't think all of it, nor most was coming from the appendix. If it does, before she's released from the hospital, they're keeping her to find out what's going on. If it's relieved for now, we'll wait and see what pathology shows, and go from there.
Please pray. I appreciate it.

Hugs and prayers for you both. Perhaps this is a blessing in disguise. Because the appendix was bad, they discovered the problem with her ovary and fallopian tube and now they can fix it before it gets worse. Ovarian problems can be a royal bear to live with but if they fix it now, she should miss the worst of it. More hugs, prayers, and warm thoughts headed your way. (I wish we had a teddy bear smiley to put right here).

Bless everyone of you, and thank you so very much!
She's crying in pain right now. Wish I'd known before she was hurting so much so I could have asked for pain meds. Now it'll take awhile to get the pain under control again.
I never knew how much it affects us parents when a child is so sick. We're so helpless. Oh I just can't imagine the pain the child and parent goes through dealing with terminal and/or long term illnesses. The worry and heart ache must be unbearable for them. :crying: Makes me also think of the mental/physical anguish Mary must have went through for Jesus. Though of course luckily my DD's is nothing in comparison to those with cancer, long term illnesses, or Mary. Not even in the same ball park.
Also makes you think of those that harm our children, and wonder HOW they could. They must be missing some major emotions, a conscious, something. There's no way someone could purposefully cause this level of pain. I just truly can't imgaine. Makes me very thankful we're in a place where the pain can be managed, and where I know nothing was done to her, with ill intent. It makes me that much sadder for all the children that have suffered unmentionable pain.... oh dear I pray their souls were removed and they were spared the pain. I have to believe it, or I don't think I could handle just the thoughts of what those dear children go through.
Gosh what a post of scattered thoughts. The emotions are so varied, and the thoughts so random.
Thanks for the prayers, and I'll keep everyone updated.

Yes youre very right. Hopefully they'll be able to sort out the problem, and fix it so she can have a normal life, and be able to bear children. I know having children isn't the only thing, but she loves them so much, and it hurts to imagine her not having her own. Though as I type that, I realize she could adopt later in life. and yes I'm jumping the gun with all my thoughts. It's just the worrywort in me shining.
Also my fears as I had so many female problems from an 18 yr old, until 29 when I had a hysterectomy. So the fear of her following in the same steps, terrifies me. We don't want our kids to have pain! Defintely don't want them suffering for years with it.
Ugh! It's 4 am, I should be sleeping, instead of sitting up and worrying.
Thankfully she says the pain is much better now, so maybe she'll go back to sleep. In the meantime, we'll watch Roseanne together, and try to laugh too much.
I am enjoying the one to one time, and the laughs we're able to enjoy. Especially the morphine laughs. LOL! She becomes a loop and laughs at everything then. Savorin the moments.

Hi Hope,
I remember when my husband had a heart attack and then a triple bypass 2 years ago, back when I was GardenGirl. I have 40-odd pages of posts that I saved from that time, and all of the good wishes and supporting prayers and thoughts got me through a very dark time.
I believe it is now your turn.
Shooting up prayers and best wishes for a speedy recovery and solution to the GYN stuff.
As a poster said upthread, this appendix nonsense was a blessing in disguise, as this other business looms.
All will be well, just try and get home for a shower, fresh clothes, and a stop for some girly magazines!!
Hang in there!!

I truly believe in the power of prayer. The pain has been basically under control today. Alexis is also learning to ask for meds before the pain gets unbearable. Morphine, and toradol alternating, is what seems to work right now. Hopefully soon she'll be on oral meds only. But today, I'm thankful for pain relief in whatever form.
She's taking sips of fluids so far today. Lunch was two tsp of ice cream. A start!!
I doubt we'll be going home today. Perhaps tomorrow, though we're suppose to get freezing rain, and whatever else tonight. We'll be safe here. Besides, I'm getting three meals a day and not having to cook. LOL!
Thanks everyone. Doc said he's going to try to get pathology to give us a report before she's discharged, but with the holidays looming, he said could be Monday before we hear.
HUGS EVERYONE!!!

Be Strong Moma!!!!! I pray all works out for the best.
Prayers to you Hope and for your daughter. So glad she is learning to ask for meds instead of waiting til its unbearable, at least then she can be more comfortable.
It is a blessing in disguise, because now it can be diagnosed and you know if she just had pain it could have taken weeks to months before it was. This way they actually saw the problem.
Keep us posted!

I'm glad you're able to enjoy the time together. If she's alternating between morphine and toradol and only able to handle sips of water and two spoons of ice cream, I think I'd be planning on being there a few more days. You don't want to go home too soon and end up going back to have to stay twice as long (or longer) than you originally would have. If the pain isn't under control, don't let them send her home. Contact the nursing supervisor if you need to, or, if that doesn't work, ask to speak to the administrator in charge. If she's in that much pain, there is a reason and they need to discover that reason asap. A whole new bunch of hugs, prayers, and warm thoughts heading your way! SM

2Hope4, I have several cousins and a college roomate who lost an ovary and a fallopian tube and ALL of them went on to have multiple normal pregnancies without having to use fertility drugs or doctors. So even if they have to do surgery, she still has an excellent chance to be a mother later on in her life. I am praying that her pain subsides and that they are able to solve her other problems quickly.

Thank you for the thoughts and prayers! They mean a lot to us.
She is HOME!!!! The pain meds are working well. She's slept most of the day. The surgeon still isn't certain what is going on with that ovary. He said it could have been she was ovaluating and a cyst burst right before surgery. Since it's something he isn't use to seeing, he just isn't sure. Pathology wasn't back on that. Appendix pathology showed a normal appendix with a small amount of inflammation, but not enough to be called appendicitis. Surgeon did say he does NOT think it's cancerous!! WHOO HOOO!!!
She was happy to see her dogs, and has a kitty in the bed with her now. She did eat tonight. First she has eaten in a while. McD's chicken nuggets. Her favorite. Anyway, she is healing well, and appears a bit stronger today. Pain being managed with Lortab, so I am thankful.
Hugs to all! and a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Thanks again everyone!!!

She's doing better today. Still in bed, but I've seen her smile a few times. She needed two Lortabs to get the pain under control earlier, but seems to be ok now. She's nibbling, and drinking fluids. Doc said to make sure she took fluids if nothing else because she was dehydrated upon admission. She has snacks by her bed, the lap top, Ipod, and tv remote. She's set. LOL!

Thanks again everyone for all the heart felt posts, and the many prayers! She's up and about, and back in school. She still has some healing to do, of course. Coughing and laughing and sneezing still hurt. She hasn't attempted to ride the horses yet. I know she's well when she does that. She did take care of her rabbits for the past two days, so she's getting there!!!
I "think" her appointment for followup is this week. Hopefully the surgeon will have some answers about the ovary deal. Everything I was reading about PID stated it was a STD!! I KNOW without a doubt that she has NOT been molested or had sex. Not just a Mom saying this, but I'm positive that isn't the case. She was wanting me to move her into another hospital because each nurse would ask her about it when I wasn't in the room. She was really upset about it, and thought they all were crazy. She couldn't understand how medical professionals would think a child 13-14yrs old would be having sex.
Anyway, I do wonder if it wasn't an ovarian cyst. TMI...she started today, so she could have been ovaluating at the time of surgery. I "think". I never was good at figuring out the times of that. :blushing:
Anyway, unless something drastic changes, I'll let this post die down. Again though, I wanted to let everyone know how much I appreciate you!!! You sure helped me through a worrying time.

Ovarian cyst that had ruptured, and the liquid settling in the right side is what the surgeon thinks happened. Unfortunately, tonight she is having the exact same pains tonight! I've called the surgeon, and he says medicate the pain, and try to wait it out until Monday and they'll do more testing and go from there. Sooooo, it seems we're back to square one again, but at least this time we know it's not the appendix!

Sorry to hear your daughter is still feeling poorly, 2Hope4. I was looking at the dates this thread started and the timing of surgeries, etc. It would appear this would be around the time she would be ovulating again, no?
Hope she finds comfort soon.

Aww.. were are still praying for a speedy recovery for her
My 13 year old daughter had to go to the emergency room recently, because of a terrible stomach ache. Thank goodness it was nothing but GIRD. But she also was getting tired of the questions regarding sex. She whispered at one point if one more person asked her she would leave. I explained to her they needed to be reassured she wasn't pregnant, and she too was like "WHAT.. I'm 13!!"
Hang in there hun, and keep us updated:smile:
