history of Santa

"Santa Claus was born in US in the 1860's he was named this as he had a white beard and a belly, so he was named Santa Claus as this was the Dutch word for St Nicholas, Sintaklaas. "

"Santa Claus as a Symbol of Modern Christmas:
Christians treat Christmas as a Christian holiday, and it certainly started out that way, but we can tell a lot about the real nature of holidays by how they are represented in popular culture. The most common, popular, and recognized symbol for Christmas today isn't an infant Jesus or even a manger scene, but Santa Claus. It's Santa who graces all the ads and decorations, not Jesus. Santa Claus is not, however, a religious figure or symbol — Santa is an amalgam of a little bit of Christianity, a little bit of pre-Christian paganism, and a whole lot of modern, secular myth-making."

I thought you said it doesn't make sense to say Merry Christmas unless it's Christmas day.

"if it was Christmas day, I could see saying merry Christmas." - Lisa
In my very humble opinion, I believe it is reasonable to say "Merry Christmas" any time you feel like doing so during the Holiday Season.
Examples: What if you are writing some personal friend, or relative, and will not be seeing them on Christmas day?
Same goes for folks where you work, or other people you meet during the Holiday Season?
Besides, it's a free country. You can say "Merry Christmas" in January, or February or any other month as far as I am concerned.
That being said, I wish all of my Christian posters a very MERRY CHRISTMAS.
To all the other posters of different faiths and beliefs, I wish you a very happy HOLIDAY GREETINGS

Well I have to be terribly PC all day, every day. I talk on the phone all day to clients, I'm not allowed to say anything but "enjoy your upcoming holidays". So I'm going to take this opportunity to unrepress myself:
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year Everyone!!!
