UPPER WEST SIDE (WABC) -- At least three people were fatally shot in an Upper West Side apartment Thursday, and a fourth body was found in the alley behind the building.

The three victims were gunned down inside an apartment on Amsterdam Avenue, near 83rd Street, just after 1:50 p.m.

Preliminarily, it appears the dead man in the backyard "may be responsible for the deaths of other three," says an NYPD official.

just saw an update on fox, it was a son, father and grandfather who were killed. Then the gunman hit the mother in the head with his gun, left it and jumped out the window.

The mother is in stable condition.

omg...what a tragedy. Any tragedy is bad enough, but to lose all 3 a week before christmas..i hope she has other family :(

Yes, it certainly is. He must have ran out of bullets so that may have saved the mother's life and that may be why he jumped instead of shooting himself.

All senseless murders are tragic but those that happen around the holidays are just unbelievably sad. It is probably another son of the mom and dad's.

OMG, my heart dropped when I saw the title of this thread. One of my sons lives on Amsterdam Ave, between 83rd and 84th. It's a nice area. Lots of shops with apartments above.

He actually didn'tjump out the window. There was another female there - daughter of the man and woman who were killed. She escaped out the window and he went out after her - but he fell.

It was this woman who ran to a construction worker and he called 911.

IMO, when a tragedy happens around the Holidays, it ruins not only that year but every year. Your holiday will be impacted by the memory of what happened at that time in the year gone by.

The murders were apparently drug related.

Carlos Rodriguez was incarcerated at one time with the alleged perp.
