NEW ORLEANS - A federal judge handed down three years of probation for a Mississippi man who, after the election of President Barack Obama, threatened to kill African Americans through a Facebook account, according to U.S. Attorney Jim Letten.
Hopefully, prosecution will curb the increase of threats on the internet. It is just too easy to get 15 minutes of fame. imo

Interesting article. IMO.
Would I be wrong if I said that this guy engaged in a hoax, and it was exposed?

That in my opinion would not be considered as a hoax.
Try it and see what happens. Let us know.

What an idiot.
To make a point? If the type of white supremacist he wanted to display existed - then he should have just pointed to him. If not - the facts would disprove his beliefs. In either case, the truth should have been good enough for him. Plenty of it out there.
A good start, prosecuting and sentencing him. What I doubt he realized is that his type of fake racist threats can embolden and encourage real crazies out there who are just looking for their target and people they think agree with them.

 Who cares, except you, if Homeland Security should pay you a visit. Good luck! :seeya:
I never said that I would do it.

I think it does show that anyone can easily set up a page on the internet and make threats. And of course the government is constantly looking and finding these threats. I am amazed that the threats against President Obama are about the same as President Clinton. I would think the government would detect 10 times as many just because of technology. imo

It also shows how easy it is for someone of the opposing party to set up something to reflect badly on the other party. This same tactic was used at some of the tea party activities.
Now you can't be sure if anything is as it appears to be.
Very true. With the internet it is so difficult to tell. imo

ITA! I question things anytime a person who supposedly represents any group acts exceptionally stupid. The media will bypass hundreds of intelligent tea party attendees to find the one outrageous person who claims to be one.
Did you read the comments at the bottom of the article? The first one bought up an excellent point, which was that if this had been a white person, they would have been charged with a hate crime and they would be in jail. This guy claimed he was just trying to get a reaction and got probation. What other reaction could he have wanted other than to spread fear and hatred toward whites after claiming that a random white person would kill thousands of blacks? Stuff like this does wonders for race relations, doesn't it? I would be interested in learning how this may have affected the people who read his comments.

I think it can be just as hard to tell what someone is really about when they are on camera talking. Look at the instance where someone impersonated the head of the chamber of commerce to the press. No one questioned him because they liked what they were hearing from the guy. I am suspect of some of the tea party interviews as well. Oldest strategy in the book. Show up, pretend to belong and then make nasty comments in hopes that your actions will reflect on the group. The media won't question anything that fits their agenda.
The Facebook hoax or whatever you want to call it was a guy impersonating his vision of what Obama dissenters are about. Why else would he claim to want to punish blacks for America electing a black president?
It's policy, not color that causes the divide. It's not black and white and the mindless accusations have grown tiresome.

Now the rw is trying to blame the media because there are no intelligent attendees at the tea parties? Boy, now I've heard it all. The truth is they would have a never-ending search for even one intelligent attendee. It would be totally uncharacteristic for anyone intelligent to attend one of those "gatherings". mo
And yet, their vote counts as much as a genius! imo

Sounds somewhat similar to the McCain campaign worker (a 20-year old white woman) who carved the letter 'B' onto her face & then went to the police & claimed she was attacked by a very tall black guy who became enraged when he saw the McCain/Palin bumper sticker on her car. Remember her?
http://kdka.com/local/attack.McCain.Bloomfield.2.847628.html
A campaign worker who claimed she was the victim of a politically-motivated attack in which she was beaten, kicked and cut, now admits that she made the whole story up.
According to Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Diane Richard, Ashley Todd, 20, told investigators today that she "was not robbed and there was no 6'4" black male attacker."
Seems to me the common denominator between that situation & this one is that they were perpetrated by a YOUNG college-age person who apparently doesn't have a lick of good sense. Period.
I seriously doubt that either the left or the right welcomes people who are so emotionally immature & disturbed that they would do irrational, stuff like these two idiots tried to pull off.
Did you notice that UNLIKE the claim made by the commentor in the first link, this young white woman was NOT, in fact, charged with a hate crime?
I think she was charged appropriately & I think the idiot in the OP link was charged appropriately, too.

And sure enough, in Ashley Todd's case - she was given PROBATION, too.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashley_Todd_mugging_hoax
She was charged with filing a false police report, and entered a probation program for first time offenders.
So much for the claim that a "white person" would be charged with a hate crime for a similar offense. Bulllll-oney!

what happened to free speech?
Where's the ACLU? To busy defending Nambla?
If a white kid had done this, it would be a "hate crime" and he would be doing hard time. The system is broken beyond repair.
JMO I think what is broken is this poor guy's mind. What an odd and vicious thing to do. A lot of self-hatred there, imo. I think he needs serious psychological help - not "sensitivity" training.

She scratched the letter "B" right across her cheek. I think that trick was going to last her for more than 15 minutes. Considering her young age, I hope that she did not manage to permanently scar her face.
What do you think the guy was looking for?
Whatever either of them were looking to accomplish, I still tend to think that each of them were primarily driven by a whole heck of a lot of immature thinking. I have hope that each of them will mature in their thinking & their outlook.
I wish I could say the same for the folks I am seeing on the news coverage of the tea parties - folks who are certainly not in the age group of either of the two young adults in the links, but who seem to have a whole lot of of immature, irrational & downright bizarre mindsets.
