SEIU Union Leader Balzano threatens complaint against Eagle Scout project in PA
Eagle Scout worked many weekends to get his Eagle Scout Badge clearing a walking path in Pennsylvania. Now a union leader threatens that he may file a complaint against the boy and will "be looking into the boy".
"
Balzano said Saturday he isn't targeting Boy Scouts. But given the city's decision in July to lay off 39 SEIU members, Balzano said "there's to be no volunteers." No one except union members may pick up a hoe or shovel, plant a flower or clear a walking path.

But I thought volunteering was supposed to be a good thing? Guess it depends who or what you volunteer for.

Forget those "day(s) of service" just lip service!

Wow, right when you think you've heard everything...
So nice that the union will probably let it go "in the spirit of the season." Yea, Happy Holidays, kid, maybe you can quit looking over your shoulder now. The SEIU would rather see people walk along the busy highway than allow some volunteer to do what was needed. Real community spirit and guessing this guy was never a boy scout.
I didn't realize union leaders were so territorial. Or maybe they are just upset that the Eagle Scout proved that the union work is so easy that one kid can do the work of a whole team of high paid men. (and probably better!)

 SEIU , you are one of the problems in this country!
Unions, at one time, were necessary organizations to ensure workers were paid a living wage and had safe working conditions.
For the most part, they have outlived their usefulness. SEIU and the Teamsters are thugs. Auto workers thought they could bully an entire industry and look what happened there. GM is bankrupt, as is Chrysler, and many Ford products, like Chrysler and GM, are made outside of the US. The ripple effect of the collapse of the auto industry hasn't fully been calculated yet, IMO. Foreign manufacturers won't go into states to build if they are forced to deal with union organizers.
Like the SEIU, the auto workers refused to negotiate in good faith. Who would have thought we'd see the day when major corporations would move facilities across the country to Right to Work states? That's what Boeing is doing. The union refused to negotiate in good faith so now union members, as well as a all those other businesses affected by the loss of Boeing, will all be out of work.
The attitude of Balzano in this particular case is a microcosm of why, in general, the American public has such disdain for unions. It's their prima donna attitude mixed with their criminal and thuggish behavior of intimidation if they get crossed.
The SEIU would do well to take a close look at unions who have turned into toothless tigers when industry, backed by the majority of Americans, has said ENOUGH!
IMO

Pat, GREAT post and ITA! I do agree that unions were very much needed at one time, but it seems that anymore, it's not about ensuring rights and fairness for workers and all about loyalty to the unions themselves. Once you join, you are always considered a member even if you stop paying dues. They will say you are behind in dues, but you can't quit. I thought that was how the mob operated- there is no breaking ties with them as far as they are concerned. From what little experience I've had with them personally, I feel that they are thugs and quick to bully anyone who doesn't join them. They'll never admit to being instrumental in bringing down the auto companies, but we all know better.

S E I U !!
My former union. Were it not for them I'd still be working in pain for a tyrant.
S E I U
I will never cross a picket line. Unions are the backbone of American workers.
Nurses, teachers, construction workers, police officers, airline employees etc. Yes - remember: the unions can take credit for 18,000 lost jobs and the end of Eastern Airlines. Teachers? Unions keep incompetant teachers in their jobs: even a convicted SO teacher (Charlene Schmitz) is still drawing her full pay while she is serving a 10 yr prison sentence. Lobbyist for the Union stated he just wants to make sure that her dismissal is "fair". Aren't unions just grand?!

So we pay ( yes 'we' since she is a public school teacher) some pedophile while they sit in jail? I just read about the case—she will continue to be paid as long as she has an appeal left which could be her entire sentence! How utterly disgusting! :cursing:
