Back in the 80s, Reagan Timber policies ruined the timber industry in Oregon, mowing down everything in site and shipping them to to the East, Japan and elsewhere. Sure they replanted, but they're still growing, and there's virtually no timber economy here anymore: several plants folded up and closed.
