FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County authorities are searching for Shaniya Nicole Davis, 5, who went missing from her home, 1116-A Sleepy Hollow Drive in Fayetteville, Tuesday morning.

"An Amber Alert has been initiated," according to a news release from Lt. David Sportsman.

Police responded to the home around 6:50 a.m., and Shaniya's mother told officers that she last saw her daughter at 5:30 a.m.

Shaniya is described as 3-feet tall and 40 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes.

She was last seen wearing a blue T-shirt with pink underwear. She is thin and has a scar on her foot.

Police K-9s, fire officials and deputies with the Cumberland County Sheriffs Office are searching the area.

The Fayetteville Police Department said Tuesday that FBI and U.S. marshals have joined the search into Shaniya Nicole Davis's early morning disappearance. Davis' mother reported her missing shortly before 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Police spokesman David Sportsman says authorities have found no evidence of foul play. Sportsman also says expected heavy rain may delay search efforts by several state and local departments involved in the case.

I'd like to know if these people were up till very late and if they came home from someplace late at night WITH other people/person who may have known the child was put on the couch. If such a person was hanging around outside waiting for the mom and boyfriend to go into the bathroom or kitchen, the child may have been snatched quickly.

So far with what little info there is, I only see:
A third person who KNEW the child was on the couch
The boyfriend
Child wandering outside and was taken by somebody (no scent though)

From what I've read the elements, even wind, can destroy scent rather quickly. Dogs never did pick up Lindsey's scent did they? What they are saying here is that this child didn't walk out of that trailer this morning or the dogs would've gotten her scent.

Well, it seems dad can be ruled out, but I've got a lot of questions! Starting with Shaniya last being seen on the couch at 5:30am ~ so what was going on in the house between that time and when LE arrived? A mobile home isn't that big. I'd think between the mom, boyfriend and the 7 y/o somebody would've seen her within the hour or knew if somebody else had come into the house. I was hoping that perhaps Dad took the child. But, the story Mom is presents sounds odd. This child is 5. Any chance she was attending a school of some sort? IMO

This is a good point. While most everyone has great faith in dogs tracking live humans, I do not. There have been so many cases where the dogs didn't help such as Elizabeth Smart, the Lundsford girl, etc.). Who besides the people in the home were the last to see the child alive?

Thanks for the link. A person would think that having three adults in the home, Shaniya would be safe. The police say they have been questioning a POI. I'm hoping it's not one of the three people known to her. But with the statement the police have made (something happened that night) makes a person wonder if it is not one of the three. I'm wondering if the 7 yr old can shed some light on his missing sister if that is the case.IMO

I usually get up shortly after 5:30am when I go to work so I don't consider that "during the night" even though it's still dark out. So if LE is thinking the same way I am, that means they don't believe what they were told about her disappearance. MOO

Police served a warrant at the residence and searched the house for clues as well, Chance said.

A previous warrant had been served at the same residence July 21. In that search police uncovered narcotics.

Chance also said the girl's father was out-of-town and not a suspect.

Two other children lived in the residence, a 7-year-old male and another child whom police would not identify.

Shaniya's mother and the 7-year-old boy spent most of Tuesday at the police station being interviewed by investigators.

I live in North Carolina. I was at work yesterday (3:00-11:30pm). Had not heard of the Amber Alert. A customer at my store drew my attention to the Lottery Flash News Board. The board, which usually flashes what the Jackpots are up to, was flashing: AMBER ALERT....SEE CLERK FOR INFO. I was stunned. I had never seen that flashed on the Lottery Board before. I went to the Lottery Terminal t search for info on their "News" section. Nothing - Nada - just a listing of what scratch off tickets were available.

I was p*ssed. If the State Lottery Board flashes that news - the Lottery Terminal should provide us with the details. Expecially since it states "Ask Clerk for info". I had NO info to pass along. My Co-Worker had twitter on her cell phone and got the info, which we wrote down and taped to the Lottery Message Board.

Putting an Amber Alert on the State Lottery Board is a good idea - but FGS, give the details on the terminal for the "Clerks" to pass on!!!!

Also, just for info - we are experiencing major rainfall, both yesterday and today - hampers search efforts and dog tracking.

But this seems so hinky to me. Much to much like Heleigh Cummings. I am not hopeful about this case at all.

"The circumstances surrounding her disappearance are very odd. A 5-year-old usually... [is] not awake at 5:30 a.m. normally, and they just wouldn't leave their home," Chance said. "If she would have wandered out of her home, she would be around here somewhere."

That was cleared up the other night with Michelle Sigona and then by the manager when she talked to NG. Shaniya's mother & aunt (and whoever else!) didn't move in until August.

Barbara Davenport, current Sleepy Hollow manager, and retired Investigator with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office says she oversees 98 units in the Sleepy Hollow neighborhood. Barbara told me, “the family moved in on August 5, 2009… I only rented to a woman named Brenda Davis and her son, so it was a surprise when Antoinette, her boyfriend, and other children were there… I’ve never seen this little girl, and I would remember seeing someone that cute.”

Barbara says Antoinette Davis, Shaniya’s mother, applied to live in the mobile home park, but Barbara says her application was denied. Only Antoinette and a 5-year-old boy were listed on the initial application. Barbara says Brenda Davis, Antoinette’s sister, also put in an application at the same time application was accepted. That application only listed Brenda Davis and her son as potential renters. It was quite a surprise for Barbara to later learn that in addition to Brenda Davis and her son, Antoinette, her boyfriend, Antoinette’s 5-year-old son, Shaniya, and an infant were also living in the home. Barbara says she doesn’t know who the infant belongs to because at the time the women turned in their applications, neither one appeared to be pregnant. Barbara also says that mobile home was not raided in July 2009, because it was vacant at the time (There are reports that claim the property was raided in July 2009, I have calls into police to verify what property was raided over the summer).

People with aids can go for years without showing symptoms.
It can take as short as a year to as long as 10 to 15 years to go from being infected with HIV to "full-blown" AIDS.

I've been reading along and I agree with you and rashid - the new "insider" is posting a lot of generic answers that anyone could answer (make up) - no proof. The defensiveness was also out of character for someone "new" and/or close to the case.

I'm still unclear with the facts that Shaniya was living with dad for 3 years, yet then dad allowed her to live with mom since he believed she was cleaning up her act...decent place, job etc. and that he wanted the mom to have a chance at mothering. Did he believe mom's present living conditions were good? Did he not know she was denied that place and went to live with her sister? Did he not know there's be a boyfriend in the place? Did he believe mom really loved this child and would do right by her? Why did he allow this really? Are there other reasons? His traveling, work out of state? Who took care of her?

And didn't slaaer say that Dad was out of town so much that he only spent around 10 months home in those years? Are there grandparents, relatives? Did his sister care for the child?

I don't know if the mom is part of it or not (my god it was the sisters ex bf who did this) but i think her speaking out after an arrest..and coe was the first quick arrest, now the other..might be a mistake.

IF she had said something/acted or been part of it and now regretted it, speaking out might make them think mom was going to turn them in and they kill shaniya.

If she was not involved and macneill took her for other reasons (none good given a dad who wanted her) to speak out while LE is hopefully getting close is not going to be helpful and might mean she gets killed too.

This is one case where a plea might endanger the child rather than help. Would help our curiousity but i wouldn't take the chance. They don't work often and i definitely don't think it would help here.

IMO LE has told her not to appear. Either its a sex abuse case in which case a plea is a non starter, or its a "save shaniya" case in which it wouldn't work. or its the very rare sell a child but i don't think it is likely at her age

No. Not given the video camera according to the manager showed the outside of the motor home she was in and the exit/entrances.

LE could compare any possible eyewitness account with videos, they could also check alibis' and interrogate. They don't need to arrest and in fact should never arrest unless they are sure it is the perpetrator.

Thanks for the information and I have been on ALOT of threads where family, friends post and it is normal for some to wonder if someone is a troll. I listen and judge for myself and if I feel someone is being untruthful I will ignore the post as most will so like you said just get her name out there and keep the attention on this sweet child and if some do not want to read what you have to say then they can ignore it or you can put them on your ignore list if it gets nasty.
