Ezell Harris, a Florida conservative who launched his campaign for Orlando City Council at a Tea Party rally, has been arrested on drug trafficking charges.

Jail records show he is being held on four counts: trafficking in hydrocodone, dispensing illegal drugs without a license, unlawful use of a two-way radio, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Interesting to note that according to his campaign platform he thinks Florida needs more oversight regarding sale of prescription drugs.

wow, that is some major drug charges

of course he wants more oversight on medical marijuana, that cuts into sales I guess, why should people be able to get their medications legally when their is a no shortage of supply illegally

The Tea Party political party is off to a great start with a candidate like this. I guess we won't see too much of him for a few months.

Maybe when he is free he will thank his lucky stars he is in The USA.

IMO, he belongs with the other extreme Right Wingers who preach their faith based values to all of us, but do not have these very same faith based beliefs, ethics, convictions and morals for themselves.

These are the folks who are in party of THE MORAL MAJORITY.

Looks like the same Grand Old Party using another name for the GRAND OLD PARTY.

just My Humble Opinion

On his campaign platform, Harris posts this note: "Prescription drugs have replaced cocaine and other illicit substances as the leading cause of drug abuse deaths in Florida, a new study says. Despite this, the state has no prescription drug monitoring program, and the authors of the study say Florida must do more to curb the abuse of legal medication ... The report makes it clear that lax oversight is allowing Florida’s legal drug abuse problem to grow out of control.Talk about going with what you know!! Of course he knows how lax the monitoring is, all the holes a prescription drug dealer can slip through - IF, of course, the charges are true.

Some mind-blowing hypocrisy if so. Run on a platform of eliminating the crime you use to pay the bills. I'll keep an "if true" in there though - unlikely but possible this is a bad charge.

Reading a bit more - they've been monitoring him for months - sounds like it's going to be a pretty solid charge. I wanted to be sure this wasn't a case of an overzealous police officer finding him with his legitimate prescriptions on him, and overcharging it - but it sounds like that's not it.

sad, really sad, what the heck are these people thinkingApparently he's running against someone he's disliked for a long time. IIF the charges are true - then I'm thinking he decided to invent a persona that could beat him in the election, and picked an issue he knew well (but from the wrong side) as the means.

Folks, there are now three threads on a council race.:laugh::laugh:This is a major story, even if a minor race. It's the purity of the hypocrisy, and being about the new political party that makes it so interesting.

If someone was running on an anti-prostitution platform, and it comes out that they are an active prostitute, while campaigning - don't you think that would be big news everywhere - just for the humor of it?

LOL Quite, there was less interest in Marion Barry smoking crack with a prostitute and Barney Frank hiring one and hiding scores of traffic tickets and turning tricks out of his apartment-- than this city council race ...

Still LMBO!!
