"The proposed college education privilege tax would be paid by students who attend post-secondary schools in the city, including colleges, universities, art, business and culinary schools. Ravenstahl says those students use city services."

As a Mom with 2 kids in college and struggling mightily I say "Oh isn't THAT just wonderful" <loaded with sarcasm>.
Maybe we should impose a hefty tax on the foreign kids who come to this country to go to college? The USA needs to start educating our own.

Well, college is a "privilege" when you pay for it yourself...it is a "right" when the govt foots the bill. Or so it seems. I do wonder, for those attending on govt assistance, will they be taxed?
In my opinion, of course.

Stunningly bad idea! We need to make every effort to help students get all the education they can get - not add roadbocks. Its hard enough to try to increase the high school graduation rates - and encourage kids to continue their education.
I don't know what the numbers are now but last year PA had a high school grad rate of about 78%, but the rate was less than 50% in Philly. Seems like the Mayor would have his hands full trying to raise the high school graduation rate in his city.
