View Full Version : Steele to Republicans Who Support Obama: ‘We’ll Come After You’

People aren’t buying that. So candidates who live in moderate to slightly liberal districts have got to walk a little bit carefully here, because you do not want to put yourself in a position where you’re crossing that line on conservative principles, fiscal principles, because we’ll come after you,” Steele continued. “You’re gonna find yourself in a very tough hole if you’re arguing for the president’s stimulus plan or Nancy Pelosi’s health plan. There’s no justification for growing the size of government the way this administration and this Congress wants to do it.”

wow, guess steel feels many republicans are starting to support Obama and is not happy about it - can't think for yourself in the republican party, can't have any of that - you work for the party, not the people you represent

It does seem to have become a toe the party line party. No room for free thinkers.

You would think he would have learned, wouldn't you daniel ?? Actually "threatening" if you support something HE or the Republican Party wouldn't like.
You're right, they made such a debacle out of NY 23. I saw him yesterday on various TV programs trying very hard to "skip" around all of that.

Yeah. YIKES. :scared:

Kind of like Obama telling people to not listen to Rush Limbaugh. Listening to Rush might be considered free-thinking too - can't have that! :sneaky:

I think some people have blinders on about the Repubs. They have always been very organized and until just recently followed Reagan's 11 commandment, "Thou Shalt Not Speak Ill of a Fellow Republican."
There have been many times I wish the left were as displined as the right. The term "herding cats" has always applied to us. I guess because we've opened our tent to all kinds of people. And it has often made me grit my teeth. LOL
What HAS been strange is that the "conservatives" are going against moderate Repubs. On the RW blog Red State, Eric actually said NY-23 was a win because they were able to kick out the moderate even though they lost the seat. That is very strange IMO and I hope they keep it up.

Somehow I don't think the founding fathers meant people voted into office were required to toe the party line rather than represent their constituents. We are suppose to be a representative govt. So much for the lets get back to following the constitution argument.
So much for thinking the Republican Party represents a wide array of views. Reagan's big tent has certainly collapsed, yet they keep trotting Reagan out as someone to emulate. A bit strange that.
Then it is just vote no, and go home and brag about how much you did for your constituents. Like stimulus money.
And somehow, the whole idea of threatening people to do what the party leadership wants just doesn't strike me as the American way. Or what the American way should be.

I bet those blue dog democrats aren't getting any pressure to toe the line with Obama/Pelosi/Reid.:rolleyes:

Well this is pretty standard Steele. Today there are threats against moderates, we're going to come after you. But then there was yesterday, and a different point of view, right from Steele also:
Yesterday, Michael Steele was defending Delicate Flower of Center-Right Moderation Olympia Snowe from the stern rhetoric of Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, telling the Morning Joe coffee-klatsch:
"I say, Welcome. Welcome. Each member of this party has a unique footprint. And it's different from region to region. I can't win in the Northeast with a candidate best suited for the South and vice-versa."

One thing to bear in mind is that Snowe is not up for re-election until 2012, so it is safe for the far right to slime her without having to worry about her losing her seat. And I could be wrong but I think that by then (2012) this will have calmed down some. It is people that are up for re-election next year that should be worried.
And although some people are going after Lindsey Graham, he's not up for re-election until 2014. So again, he's probably safe.

Well, gosh Steele keeps right on spinning. Now there is this:
Hours after Michael Steele warned moderate Republicans that they woud be targeted if they didn't support conservative principles, the RNC Chairman called discussion of intra-party feuding "stupid" and insisted that the GOP would lose if "we play politics amongst our own."
In a conference call with grassroots Republicans leaders to thank them for the work they did in winning two governor's seats in the 2009 election, Steele laid out a blueprint for expanding on the early success. The RNC chair stressed the need to avoid having Republicans target one another. "It is the first way to screw yourself," he said.

I don't think anyone takes Steele seriously. He probably doesn't even take himself very seriously.
How could he? He's the pawn of a political party trying to checkmate President Obama.

Did the President tell people NOT to listen to Rush Limbaugh ??
Of course, we all know that the President never said that, nor anything close to that, but some people who listen to Rush probably believe the President said it, because probably Rush said that the President said it. I bet that's how and where this assertion was made.

It probably came from this statement:
"You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done"

Steele is only parroting the PON line.
In order to be a Republican in good standing, you must agree to their faith based social agenda specifically--their Right To Life Agenda.
You must adhere to their beliefs, convictions and values 100% or you are considered "too moderate," and they will bring the full power of the Party Of No to defeat you.

WASHINGTON -- President Obama warned Republicans on Capitol Hill today that they need to quit listening to radio king Rush Limbaugh if they want to get along with Democrats and the new administration.
I suppose if you don't want to consider Republican congressmen people you may not want to believe Obama said this, but yeah, he said this.

A very good example of the GOP going after those who don't adhere to their very strong faith based social beliefs, convictions and beliefs woud be the NY 23 race.
The Republicans should have won this race in a NY Minute. After all the 23rd has been Republican for over 100 years.
the Republican Scozzafava, had the Democract beat.
However, she is a moderate Repub. and did not represent the faith based convictions the GOP want in their Party. They only want those people who believe 100% in the faith based values and convictions as they do.they do.
So, as Steele has said, the GOP will "come after you."
They sent in a Conversative ith strong beliefs and Convictions who cost the Republican Party to lose to the Democracts.

This sort of sounds like what terrorists and big bullies do... threaten and intimidate.
Way to go, Steele! That's so "American"!
