Arrests made in 1997 murder case

Twelve years after a brutal murder, detectives say the case has been solved.

Tuesday, Bexar County deputies arrested 33-year old Joe Casas and 45-year old Alfred DeLeon for the 1997 murder of 36-year old Conrad Arredondo.

A murder warrant was also issued for 46-year old Gilbert Cardenas.

Arredondo’s body was found beaten and stabbed on August 31, 1997 in rural Bexar County near FM 1604 and Pue Rd.

The BCSO’s Division Cold Case investigators say they have charged three men with the murder. This comes after looking anew at the case by interviewing witnesses and possible suspects.

Charged are Joe L. Casas, 33, Alfred Deleon, 45, and Gilbert Cardenas, 46. Investigators say they were able to make the arrests after witnesses' and written statements pointed to Casas and Deleon.

Cold case deputies said a key piece of evidence collected at the crime scene at the time of the murder combined with new technology helped them solve the case.

Cardenas is still being sought, they do not have him in custody.
