I'm starting to really believe that rather than dividing all this information up state by state that law enforcement needs to just have ONE singular NATIONAL data base and website.
Seems to me like these folks fall through the cracks, case in point is that sex offender they just caught in Georgia? His employer ran a background check on him and said it came back clean because his offenses were in Florida. Don't know how true that is.
A national website would be much better. Each state could enter their information just as they are doing now but it would be far more uniform across the board.

This is the guy who lives or lived on Gano street and whose girlfriend passed away on Oct 12. I have really wondered about him particularly in view of a possible stressor trigger due to his girlfriend's death only a couple of weeks before Somer's disappearance.
There is a link somewhere on previous pages but I'd never find it again. Also SM was discussing this guy at length.

I totally understand the stressors issue prompting this man to re-offend. It would be interesting to see a photo of his deceased girlfriend.
That said, this guy has a whole history of repeat offenses and they are ALWAYS against boys and usually against boys that are in pairs. these types have broken recording in their head that they play again and again it's the fuel that makes their motor run. For that reason alone I hold out on waving the checkered flag for his race.
I do admit though he's certainly right up there.

"If that's part of the law that I have to do it, then so be it. I did something wrong and I'm sorry for it." said William Kuhn, 43, of Orange Park. He was sentenced in December 2002 for the January 1997 sexual battery on a girlfriend's daughter and served 18 months in prison and five years' probation.
"I screwed up and I've been given a chance," he said. "The people living around you have a right to know I invaded somebody else's privacy. I know there are some people out there that don't have the same remorse and regret that I have."

I think it was the other guy who was just arrested who is attracted to boys, not Kuhn. The guy who approached the two boys in the white van.

Ya Chica I'm getting old for sure. That newspaper article lists that this Kuhn committed sexual battery against his girlfriend's daughter back in 1997. I wonder who his girlfriend was then. Should be a matter of public record like the police report ect... Gotta do some digging I guess.
Amazing how much money, time and employees each state has to devote to just trying to keep track of these offenders. There's got to be a better way.
I can't imagine the money spent to monitor these freaks. The taxpayers would be stunned imo to find out where their tax dollars are going. 56,000 RSO in Florida alone...Disgraceful!

I'm so shocked that there isn't an arrest yet in this case. I thought for sure that someone would have seen something with so many people being out and kids on their way home from school. It's so hard to believe she can just disappear in broad daylight with so many others outside.
At least we know if they ever find the right person, there should be plenty of DNA.
Poor little Somer.

I think whatever happened was on somebody's property as opposed to her being picked up by the perp driving along the street and forcing her into his car ~ and that could be why nobody saw anything. She'd run ahead from the group of kids, was seen around the large propane tanks (maybe hiding from the others until they passed by) and was also seen by the burned house. So I think it's very possible she went onto the "wrong" property ~ where the perp was. MOO

Any reports about scent dogs walking down the path she last walked? Did dogs hit anywhere near the propane tanks, the bathrooms, the neighbors on either side of the burned down home?
Scent dogs or cadaver dogs would hit where ever Somer was.
I remember seeing a video in one of the reports a while back where a woman with a scent dog, on Gano I think, was explaining how difficult it was to determine a scent on pavement due to the heat burning it off, as well as any scent being compromised by traffic fumes.
I don't know if they tried using dogs around the vacant house or in the area of those public bathrooms...I should hope so.

I'm interested about any investigation into the childsitter...not that I'm saying it's him who did it. And..the kid and family of that kid who Somer was "arguing with" at school. Timing of this tragedy seems awfully coincidental to me. But...child molesters..they can case a place and just wait for opportunity. It could even be one of the people who showed up to "help" with the search or stand in town putting out flyers to search for Somer.
I wonder if they aren't looking for a needle in a haystack and missing something right there in their face. We don't even know if she was sexually assaulted, do we?

I have a bad feeling about this case. Unless the evidence taken from the vacant house is incriminating, I don't feel LE is any closer to solving Somer's murder. In Robert Manwill's case LE came right out and said something tragic had happened in his mother's apartment. We knew from the beginning his mother and/or bf had hurt Robert. In these cases where LE says nothing, as much as I want to believe they know who is involved and are keeping the info close to the vest, I feel they have no clue. And unless someone tips them off, I don't feel they will ever solve the case. Same as in Haleigh's case. :crying::crying:

a) There was dna found on the child's body and
b) the dna doesn't match the child sitter, any male members of the family, any males known who have been questioned/interviewed by the police including the known sex offenders in the area...
So talking about the child sittter/woman's boyfriend is a waste of time in my opinion...
The killer is an unsub...
Finding out who he is is proving to be difficult for the police as they don't appear to have any specific suspect or "person of interest"....

It's possible..some people, after the case in MO where the 15 year old killed the 9 year old, are wondering something along those lines...
There still might be dna even if there's no sexual assault.
The child's father did say in an interview that his daughter was a fighter, making me think she scratched the perp.If so the perp's dna is under her fingernails/on her fingers so they have the dna from there even if there wasn't a rape.
So you check local schools and see when the older children/adolescent children got out and if any left early...

Just some thoughts about the DNA;
DNA might have been recovered from Somer's body and articles of clothing but she was found in a garbage dump after being in a garbage truck. DNA might have been compromised/degraded? Also DNA with one or more perps all mixed up with other trash/debris/garbage and Somer's own DNA. Also, I think the FDLE/FBI crime lab may have their hands full processing all the evidence???? May take more time than normal?

DNA would definitively be found on the body just because of where it was found. The issue is determining what is and isn't of value. DNA found on the surface of the body can easily be explained away as transference, the body came in contact with mass amounts of debris from a wide variety of sources.
Only DNA evidence found in places that can't be explained away as casual transfer would be viable for testing.
Add to that, it takes time to collect the evidence, transport it to the lab & it takes 5 days once testing is started, just to get the DNA results to match against anything they have in the data base. 5 days presuming the request to expedite the testing was made and granted. Do we even know that was done?
Assuming they expedited the testing, it's still kinda soon to expect they have the results, let alone tested against all the possible databases available.
In 2005, they couldn't get a DNA turnaround in 30 days. There was a 38% increase in requests for testing from 2002 to 2005, and only a 5% increase in testing ability. Nothing much has changed. The goal for time to collect the evidence to send to the lab was 72 hours, they were considering changing it to 120 hours. I can't find anything updated to determine if they did or didn't. but that's 3 days for collection and 5 days for testing, without allowing time for transport & assuming they were waiting for the samples at the door of the lab and started the testing process immediately.

So you check local schools and see when the older children/adolescent children got out and if any left early...
Yes, you are correct. I had forgotten about the scratching scenario. If LE in fact found skin under her nails that would be DNA. A match is another story, but it does sound plausible as LE did ask for people to look for someone who was injured..I hope if that was the case, LE knows already because time is passing and scratches heal quickly.

Chica,
I think you and I said the same thing last week, didn't we? I feel more sure now than ever, that the case is cold and that LE hasn't the vaguest idea who killed Somer.
I heard LE collected "evidence" from the house and perhaps some from the park across the street. Has that been ruled out as evidence? There has been so much going on in the news lately, every one is covering a tiny bit of each story...
I sure do hope they found something. DNA under nails to match someone is AFIS would be the best outcome!

Then again' who is to say' it was not something to do with the fight that day at school?

Somer To Be Topic Of America's Most Wanted
ORANGE PARK -- The hunt for the killer of little Somer Thompson will hit national airwaves.
Today Clay County sheriff Rick Beseler met with a crew from America's Most Wanted as the shows prepares to air the case nationally Saturday Night.
The reward offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of Somer Thompson's killer now stands at $45,000 from the Justice Coalition and Crime Stoppers.
A task force of investigators are trying to find the person or people responsible for killing the 7-year-old.
"The task force still includes agents from the FBI, Florida Department of Law Enforcement and U.S. Marshals, who have committed to remaining part of our team until Somer's killer is caught," said Mary Justino of the Clay County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff's deputies say so far 2,600 tips have come in, but they hope airing the case will help generate solid leads that will lead to a person or persons of interest, and eventually an arrest in the case.
Justino said that no arrest has been made. "We do not have anyone in custody and have not named any persons of interest," Justino said.

a) There was dna found on the child's body and
b) the dna doesn't match the child sitter, any male members of the family, any males known who have been questioned/interviewed by the police including the known sex offenders in the area...
So talking about the child sittter/woman's boyfriend is a waste of time in my opinion...
The killer is an unsub...
Finding out who he is is proving to be difficult for the police as they don't appear to have any specific suspect or "person of interest"....
Well..yes..sitter ruled out..since no dna of his found on her...
maybe? In the garbage..as another poster said..she could have a "lot" of DNA found on her body that has nothing to do with her cause of death-demise.
Is it possible? To strangle (or beat/hit) a little girl...throw her in the garbage..and leave no DNA behind? i.e. no sexual assault..no stratching (dna under her fingernails) no hair fragments found from the perp, etc.
What if a victim was found with something "missing"? (Silence of the Lambs..just as example)..what is missing is a "clue" but takes time to figure out. NO NO..I'm not saying it is like this case..but just an example. Sometimes what is Missing can be a Clue. I see it like Circumstantial Evidence, but it can be part of the investigative process.
I don't know, but this is troublesome..yet it does take time..I just hope it's found out..soon.

I really am shocked too, shocked that LE ruled out area sexual offenders so fast???
There's sooo damn many of them in Florida.
LE has not released that this lil girl was sexually violated prior to her vicious murder.
"IF" there's a possibility that Somer's murderer was in fact a RSO/SO then LE owes it to the public to at least let them KNOW so that the public in and out of Florida are that much more vigilant.
I listened to John Walsh and what he stated Re: Somer and the possibility a RSO may have come out of retirement...
I'm not so sure anymore.
Certainly the public does not need any details...just a yes or no
LE saying nothing at all leads me to believe that the murderer is much closer to Somer's immediate family circle:ohmy:

I agree...I am maybe not shocked but dismayed. How can they rule out a SO without evidence to do so..like DNA? Or presence or lack of it at the time of the crime?
I guess we won't know whether poor Somer was sexually assaulted..what was done to her body before dumping her..the LE need to keep that to themselves, I imagine, to narrow it down - if possible, until someone is caught, if ever.
However, if I were in that community, I'd want to know if it was a sexual assault..no details necessary..just know that that poor little girl was sexually assaulted..so look out...if it was a sexual offender..whether a registered one or not. I wouldn't want the community being in a Fog..or looking over their shoulder at every single person because they are surmising what occurred instead of knowing at least something. I'd think from the lack of output of information one can assume..this certainly wasn't an accident. But LE can't release anything until they close a case, if then.

The guy waiting at home has been ruled out. I believe that if it was him, he'd be arrested by now, but I'm not sure of anything anymore.
Either they know what's up and are keeping it close to the vest until they have enough evidence to arrest the scumbag, or they have absolutely no idea who did it IMO.
Unfortunately, I think it's the latter. Just a gut, based on how fast they found her and how nothing's happened since then.

Well...like the rest of you I keep checking here and on the news and nothing.
I'm thinking that LE needs to release the information about where they have determined to be her initial drop point. Where was she initially determined to have been dumped to begin with? Maybe I'm just assuming she was dumped near home. Maybe we would be surprised to find out where she was actually at? That would potentially jar someone's memory.
Unfortunately there are enough cases going cold already in Florida and enough new cases each day that this is going to start dwindling to page 9 unless something unfolds here quickly.
LE has already been asking for the public's help, why not release a little more information?
In the meantime, I tell you what I would NOT want my children out by themselves. SOMEONE out there killed this little girl and he or she is STILL out there.
Greetings"

Along with Sheriff Beseler, John Walsh theorizes Somer's killer could be a pedophile serial murderer who may have re-emerged from a "dormant period," and who may be responsible for the previous disappearances of 4 additional children. Those cases remain open.

http://jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/112398/met_2a1disap.html
Jean(Jeanie) Marie Schoen (9 yrs) July 21 1974 (missing 24 yrs) after going to a store near her grandmother's house on West 19th Street in Springfield. Body never found.
**Lillian Annette Anderson (11 yrs) & her sister , Mylette (6yrs) disappeared Aug. 1from their Oceanway home while their mother was attending a sick relative.
Prosecutors concluded the girls were abducted by self-proclaimed mass murderer Paul John Knowles and closed the case. Knowles, a 28-year-old Jacksonville resident, was killed in December 1974 trying to escape from Georgia authorities.
In tape recordings found after his death, Knowles said he abducted two girls matching the description of the Anderson sisters and buried them in an isolated area at the western end of Commonwealth Avenue. Their bodies were never found despite a massive search. Lester Parmenter, the former homicide detective who investigated the disappearances, said he and his partner, Sgt. Richard Pruett, never considered the Anderson case cleared. Even so, ''We felt strongly that he probably did it. We couldn't prove it because we didn't have the bodies,'' Parmenter said.
Virginia Helm (12 yrs) disappeared Sept. 27 while going to a convenience store a block from her home on Dean Road on the Southside. A month later, her body was found in a shallow grave south of Beach Boulevard. She had been shot through the head.
Rebecca Ann Greene (12 yrs) disappeared Oct. 12 after buying soft drinks at a store in her Fairfield neighborhood. Her skeleton was found three years later on Heckscher Drive

 I've been waiting to hear something on Somer but there is nothing! LE seems to have no clue as to what happened to her. Without leads, there is nothing!
And I find that so hard to believe that somebody didn't see something. It was broad daylight, kids were walking around, there were crossing guards, etc, yet, it's true, I guess. Nobody seen anything!!!
For me, personally, this case resembles that of an old, cold case in my area. A girl got off at her bus stop and was never seen alive again. Her body was found days later in an orange grove.
The only thing I see similar between Somer and Haleigh {if Misty isn't involved} is that the person was bold and very daring in both cases. Snatching one in broad day light and the other walking into a home in the middle of the night.

Thanks for your insight, I never got 'into' the Haleigh case for whatever reason, actually I think it was the unbelievable family dynamics in that case that just got completely in the way.
I'm on and off on Haleigh. Another precious girl that I hope is found but it's not looking good.
There would probably be more posts here about Somer if information was given out for us to discuss. There hasn't been anything, that I've seen, since the NC where the sheriff told of behavoir signs the killer might exhibit.

I came across an interesting article you may want to read while waiting for more info about Somer's death....
Traffic up at the state Web site that shows where convicted sexual offenders live
Traffic increases in recent weeks at state Web site registry
In the wake of the mid-October killing of 7-year-old Somer Thompson as she walked home from her Orange Park school, some have wondered if a sexual offender was involved. That may have sparked some of the increase in people logging onto the Florida Sexual Offenders and Predators Registry online at offender.fdle.state.fl.us to find out how many of the state's registered 52,000 sexual offenders and predators are in their neighborhoods.

Source: http://jacksonville.com/news/metro/crime/2009-11-07/story/traffic_up_at_the_state_web_site_that_shows_where_ convicted_sexual
Gee, Don't state officials who are scratching their heads at the increase of web hits realize maybe it's because sex offender infested Florida has so many unsolved missing or murdered children ? And how can a sex offender just decide not to register? Sounds like falling through that crack is pretty easy. Doesn't anyone monitor these freaks? I am beginning to believe all LE are clueless and sitting in a doughnut shop. Sorry, if I offend any here in LE, but that is how I feel. It seems to be pretty easy for a SO to get his jollies off. I wonder why more aren't doing it?

Items Still Missing From Somer Thompson (http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/local/news-article.aspx?storyid=147820&catid=3)
"ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- An episode of "America's Most Wanted" that aired Saturday night revealed two missing items Somer Thompson may have had on her the day she disappeared.
An artist's rendering of the items was released by police.
One is a tote-style bag 7-year-old used to carry her books and the other is a zippered, round lunch box with a pink pig design. Neither of these items have been recovered by investigators involved in the case.
Witnesses believe Somer had these two items with her when she was last seen walking home from school."

I still remember how Joseph Smith drove some 350 miles on the borrowed car he used to abduct Carlie Brucia with. While he dumped her body close to home, he traveled far, tossing her book bag and belongings into several dumpsters.
This could be what Somer's killer did as well.

Well put - you could post this on numerous threads :) I don't have time to post on every thread I would like, but I definitely check in. I also appreciate all of the updates you guys give.

Hi moonlite,
We still don't know if Somer was molested.
Two things that connect them:
The missing children are all from Florida.
The missing children are all girls.
Hopefully tonight John Walsh can help as he will have an update on Somers case.
So many of these cases in Florida...go cold:crying:
Greetings"
Koawally'
Sorry this has taken me a few days in responding. I was out of town. Besides' the children all living in Florida and being female is there anything else?
Because in my opinion that doesn't make for a strong connection to show it is a serial killer.
The way I see it' the first four girls were murdered like over 30 yrs ago. If the perp was let's say 20 yrs old or older back then, it would put him about 50 yrs at the youngest today. Now in my opinion I don't think a 50 yr old seasoned killer would just dump a body in haste. Then you have some of those children who were buried. Once again' my opinion only' the method of disposal say's allot about a killer. Somer was disposed of in a manner that suggest someone who acted in haste and disregard.
Do we know if any of the other children are missing items? I mean like suggested on AMW.

Good point. I too think it's possible the perp couldn't put Somer's body in his vehicle and dump her elsewhere so he used what was most convenient, but the book & lunch bags could've been tossed practically anywhere. Maybe even in trash from that area but not in the same container as Somer. It's too bad this information wasn't released sooner. If the items have been discarded in garbage, they'll probably never be found. MOO

Neither of those things surprises me. Could you work, so soon after your daughter's murder, knowing that it happened while you were at work, knowing the killer was still out there, and you had other vulnerable children? I couldn't.
Making the children less aware of their missing sister isn't surprising either. A constant reminder is not helpful, especially at night when they can worry that it will happen to them. They are unlikely to forget their sister is missing no matter what, but she can minimize any trauma.

Rearranged the kids bedrooms so they won't have to sleep in a place that constantly reminds them of their sister...I find that very "strange"!!!!
I also find it "strange" that Somers bookbag with the skeleton head and bone(s) along with her lunch bag with the pig on it were shown to the public as an artists rendition of a picture, instead of identical actual pictures of similar items from the companies who made them.
Also "strange" that Diena would have her lawyer at Fridays interview. Why would she need a lawyer?
I was hoping AMW would have given more information on how lil Somer died or if she was molested. LE generally at least gives the public a yes or no confirming or negating molestation...makes me wonder why there's NO confirmation here..."strange"

They aren't just for defendants  An attorney can take over most of the "outside" things like requests for interviews etc., help guide her through the investigation, procedures, try to get answers for her. She also may be facing a custody battle, don't forget her ex husband said that he was going to take the kids and they would not live in Oak Park again. If that is the case then it would be important to have an attorney with her because some comments could be misconstrued by her ex's attorney.
There is no way i could go back to work if it was me at this point, she is going to be super protective over the rest of the children and she also probably still breaks down half of the day. Trying to stay strong for the kids and office probably is to much to expect.
Rearranging the rooms, now this is a smart mom. I think it is a great idea bc the kids are going to be so nervous themselves that someone will take them, and to have to pass Somer's empty room each time can be enough to make bedtime traumatic. Changing things around can help alleviate it a little bit. I do remember she said they were all going to get counselling and i am sure there was a child psychologist available at the school who she also might have gotten advice from

I agree with you about rearranging things, but I was thinking Somer's room would become more of a shire than anything. It just seems so soon to rearrange things. Perhaps she shared a bedroom with her sister and she was having a hard time dealing with Somer's bed being empty, which I can totally understand. Whatever the reason, I'm sure DT is doing what she feels is best for her and her children.

Somer Thompson’s mom: 'I tell her every day that I love her'
Orange Park girl slain three weeks ago
* Story updated at 2:49 AM on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009
Snipped from the article:
Thompson has retraced the route on Gano Avenue where Somer vanished just once, while being driven to Grove Park Elementary last week to pick up Somer’s twin brother and older sister. The agony of imagining what her daughter went through caused her to vomit when she got home.
“It’s heart-wrenching,” Thompson said.
Somer’s siblings have returned to school and are undergoing counseling. They have spent time living with her and their grandparents. Thompson said the twin, Sam, cries himself to sleep at night.

ITA. A trust fund for the family is troubling.
From today's ABC interview, "I know that Samuel had lagged behind talking to a friend," Diena Thompson told "GMA." "And Abby and Somer were together and that -- I'm not sure what happened. Somer got teased a lot. ... She ran ahead, and Abby just figured she'd catch up with her. And when she got to the second crossing guard Somer wasn't there."
This has been nagging at me from the beginning. Why doesn't Diena (and investigators) know what happened between Abby and Somer? What did Abby say to her that would make her run off, and not just ahead to the next crossing guard? What is the visual between the point where the girls argued and the next crossing guard? How fast can a 7 yr. old run that she could disappear from sight in such a short period of time?
There has been so much said about Somer being teased a lot, but never any explanations as to why. A babysitter said that Somer had a pattern of 'running ahead' or 'running off' and that Diena had given her the phone numbers of various friends' parents if Somer didn't come home. How 'sensitive' a child was Somer? Was the teasing she endured relentless enough that she had a hiding place to escape? Or was she the kind of child that could dish it out and not take it?
I re-read many of the articles this morning and while the investigators' profile of the possible abductor is helpful, I can't help but think that a more complete profile of Somer is in order. Call it my sixth sense, but I just have this feeling that the children know more than what they are saying. Not that they're necessarily deliberately withholding information, but perhaps the right questions aren't being asked.

Keegan,
bbm \You and me both.
Here is a short Fla. news clip about the case. There are pictures of the still missing items. I was old that the Hanna Montana Backpack IS the pink one. It doesn't have Hanna Montana's face on it but it's made by the brand Hanna Montana. Who knows?
This is a case to me that seems like the answer is right in front of everyone but yet not able to see it. It was my first thought to that she had laid the items down and then someone took her, such as at a play ground or friend's house or yes even home. Maybe the perp then went back and got them and disposed of them elsewhere or burnt them. I gotta say that the construction workers saying they saw her at that house kind of gives me a hinky feeling, assuming though that LE has checked their story out.

Here's the pics of the bookbag and lunchbag. Hannah Montana does not make the items above and if they did I'm certain LE would have pictures of the items. Now on Somers missing person flyer it says she had a backpack. LE has not sent out any pics of the backpack.
I don't know what to think about this discrepancy...other than LE found the backpack and if they found it where did they find it. Was it found at home/on the street. Did lil Somer carry a backpack, bookbag and lunchbag? I've not seen LE revise the initial information Re:the backpack and as you can see the below the items do not include a backpack.

I really thought LE had some good evidence from the vacant house, but? nothing. It is depressing to see so many children go missing or murdered and LE is stumped. And then you have the mother who left her children alone to go shopping and 2 died in a fire. She hasn't even been charged. What is going on? We just had 2 murders in my city in 2 weeks, very unusual for this area and both perpetrators were arrested for 1st degree murder within 2 days. One, don't know how LE found him and the other was seen on video at a store next door to the scene. I just can't believe LE in this case and in Haleigh's are so cold. :crying:

Why are parents so lackadaisical when it comes to finding their children. Same with Chrystal, Haleigh's mother, doesn't know anything, never asked Misty anything. Go figure!

Ray; I worked as an RN for 10 years and devoted my life to trying to be the best nurse I could be but became so disillusioned by the downright nastiness of that profession. What an oxymoron that we are suppose to be compassionate and loving toward our fellow human beings in their suffering but yet when we look across the report table at another nurse we can be as cold as freezer burn.
Bereavement leave especially, it's almost as if we allow someone else to be 'weak' we are terrified we will become weak as well.
You are so right. There's the saying that "nurses eat their own" and it's absolutely true and I wonder what the heck it's about.
I never would have, as a nurse, been given "as much time as you need" to recover from something like this. I'd either take the 4 days bereavement and get right back to work or I wouldn't have a job.
I still work as a nurse, couldn't say no to the money it pays and if I focus on the patients, it feels better, but it is hard to coexist with some of the others, for sure!

you know what, I have always wondered if Somer fell or hit her head right there and the kids made a decision and put her body in one of the garbage bins.
We have no idea, how this child died, what the COD was and no record of any autopsy report. I'm not sure that I believe the search for a SO any more.
How could her mother not know every single word that was said during this fight; none of it really makes sense now that time has passed and we can look at this for what it is: We have no proof a SO took her. We have no proof of anything other than she was in the garbage and made it to the landfill.
How do we know that she didn't fall, hit her head on the side walk; kids thought she was dead and they put her in one of the cans? We just don't.
There are many things not adding up in this case. How disturbing it is also to see her mother; now with an Atty. I'm sorry; but there is no need for an Atty if you are telling the truth. Now all of a sudden is the mother a celebrity too? She has handlers now, and media appearances?
I'm very conflicted in how I feel about this case for now. We should have had answers and a suspect by now. I'm sure that she had a closed casket due to TOD and how long she was in the landfill. It may not have anything at ALL to do with how she died....

According to the GMA interview the lawyer's name is: Michael R. Freed
He practices "entertainment law"
I'm just so heartbroken that so many make far to much money when a beautiful child goes missing!! I'm sick of it...the focus should always remain on the child and on finding her murderer
There's something very very wrong with a system that gives the public more details on where and when benefits are in, raising money "for the family" rather than accurate and updated information of a precious lil child who has been murdered.
No wonder this case is going cold:crying:
I'm praying for justice for lil Somer and all the other precious missing children. It's time in society that our missing children come first!!!

I don't know if the mom is a nurse, I don't think so. I was talking about SnowWhite's experiences as a nurse. And mine.
I'm very sorry to hear about your son. No parent should ever have to endure that kind of pain, I hope you've come to a place of peace. I'm also very glad that you were able to get paid for 3 months out of work. There is no way in heck that would be me, I would have to use my own earned time and even then, they would not let me be out that long. But, I work for a very large company. Very impersonal, the big guys don't personally know me and business to them is just that. They don't allow the personal to interfere. I suppose they have to be that way with over 12K employees. you guys I sure hope it doesn't apply in this case. They must not have any DNA in the case. I was hoping for more. They found her so quickly and I still cannot believe that no one has been arrested.
I don't want to believe something like that; but when people get scared they do all kinds of things to dispose of bodies. If a child gets scared who knows what they would do. It's a different society we live in and almost daily we are being shown that new rules apply. Things have changed.
I have to agree with the tunnel vision in this case seeking out SO only:
Unless they knew she was assaulted in this way, why would they look so hard at SO? Did they have tunnel vision? Do they still; or do they have a suspect in their site?

I agree that little Somer's body must have not been in very good condtion due to her Mom not being able to veiw her...But I think that maybe it's because if she was in a garbage truck then when that truck compacks the garbage, that is how Somer's body got most of the damage. I know that sounds horrible, but I know they have to compack ever so often to fit all the waste on the truck...IMO...

Here's some NEW info.
http://www.news4jax.com/news/21598516/detail.html
Sheriff Rick Beseler answered questions Thursday about what evidence has been found three weeks into the investigation.
Beseler said some forensic evidence is back from the lab, but he won't say what it is.
Beseler did not release any information on whether investigators have tracked down the Dumpster where Somer's body was originally placed.
As for the home on Gano Avenue that investigators searched, Beseler would not say if the crime took place there, but he did say it has not been ruled out.

Im not sure what LE Is found, depending on what the body showed they could be looking for an SO but I cant help thinking it is some kind of sex trafficking, due to the fact that a little five year old girl was almost kidnapped just days before by '3' people and the fact that SO many children go missing out of florida and places near water ways, makes me think they are taken by boat somewhere. The only thing is why take her to just kill her that would make no sense either. I am praying for justice in Somer's case and hope that the killer gets what's coming to him!!!

Hugs Angel and you know; yes I agree she was in terrible condition. Thank you all for not jumping all over me for my thoughts, as this is a nagging feeling I've had in this case. I agree with others, why the focus on local SO but then again why doesn't her mother know more of what happened during this scuffle with the children as so many of you ask?
I don't want to appear to disparage her in any way. But what could have happened, how did they lose sight of her and then like that she was gone? I guess the timeline must be a little off, has to more than she just ran ahead of them all. This is going to haunt her siblings.
Most of us know what it's like for our sibling to come to our aide when we are young. I think her twin is going to have a very difficult time.
I hope they are in counseling to deal and cope with this tragedy. There isnt a day that goes by that I don't think of this case.
I guess I just thought they would have solved this by now. I have no patience this is true and I hope they have tons of evidence we know nothing about.

I think it's possible the fight was an ugly one and LE have probably determined there's no correlation between the fight and Somer's disappearance. Back to my fantastic panel: also joining me Diena Thompson`s attorney, Michael Freed.
Michael, thank you so much for joining us. I know that you`re helping this family that is suffering so much and helping to find the killer, as well. What`s the latest on the investigation?
I mean, we`ve been hearing about those construction workers who were at the abandoned house where Somer was last seen. What do you know?
MICHAEL FREED, ATTORNEY FOR DIENA THOMPSON: We know they`re making progress. For obvious reasons, there`s not a lot of detail that`s being offered and that`s painful for Diena and her family but we respect that the Clay County Sheriff`s Office is doing a great job than they need to keep that information close to the vest.
We do know that they`re looking at scientific evidence at this point and sending various information to the labs. And they have not identified, as we understand it, any suspects or even people of interest, but we know that there`s people that they`re looking at and there`s evidence they`re looking at to try to tie some of those people to this horrible crime.

OK? Sean Patton (the one time babysitter that was at the home when Somer went missing) has links (marriage, divorce, deeds, mortgages, etc) to Glen St. Mary, Florida (Baker County). Also in Duval County, Fl. WIFE was Deborah Jo Huguley.
Charles PERRY Currier (the current live-in boyfriend of Diena) has links to Glen St. Mary, Florida. Lots of info on him and some woman that he seemed to have a child with???? (Emma M. Martin)
Glen St. Mary (Baker County) is a town of less than 500 people. The ONLY other time I ever heard of that town was in Haleigh Cummings case. Marie Griffis and Crystal Sheffield, et. al. live in Glen St. Mary, Florida. One of the names connected to Haleigh is SAPP. That's Lindsy Croslin's maiden name. Deborah Jo Huguley (see above married to Sean Patton) had a lien filed against her by Ronnie SAPP.

LE have probably determined there's no correlation between the fight and Somer's disappearance

Have LE definitely ruled out the correlation? If not, they might want to determine who participated in the fight and use dogs to sniff out the homes, clothing, bags, and backpacks of those persons, to see whether the scent matches that on Somer's body.

So here's something weird and possibly interesting. In my Google News, I have it pull stories on Somer. This morning, the top story was from the Philadelphia Examiner, and has the following headline:
"Somer Thompson: police question registered sexual offender who worked at Gano house seize truck trailer
Vinson is a Florida registered sex offender who previously worked on renovating the Gano Avenue, Orange Park house, where witnesses last saw Somer Thompson ..."
It even has a picture of the guy. However, when I try to click through to the story, I just get an error saying the story will be published in 5 minutes and to check back, but it's been like that all day. Anyone else experience this?

every day you know I hope to hear something, I do not understand what the hold up is in this case. We can hope that LE does have Dna, and other trace evidence that will prove exactly who killed her, and why.
It's the y's that must be so horrific for her family & friends. To have these child cases going cold really say's a lot about our state of LE.
With all the knowledge we have we still cannot pin somone down, not even a perp like OSBL! Because some of us do read about true crime cases, some get to the point where you start ticking these cases off one by one, unsolved, unsolved, unsolved...a childs killing should never go unsolved. I have to remind myself how slowly the wheels of "justice" turn.
RiverWalk that is really interesting info you pulled. HC's case is another, where I am dumbfounded that LE has not charged who can be the only perp in that case! Dumbfounded! But I truly hope both are solved and soon.

Justino said, "Investigators have now received 4,200 leads and detective teams continue working to follow up on all remaining workable tips. We remain hopeful that evidence being processed now at the lab will provide more streamlined direction for our investigators and will help us focus more accurately on a suspect." She added, "The processing of such evidence is time-consuming, but is very important to the long-term success of this investigation and cannot be rushed."
"Waiting on lab results is part of this process," said Sheriff Rick Beseler. "The results can take weeks to return and cannot be rushed or hurried because this is information that will point us in the right direction and tell us where to go."

Thank you for the links. I hope Deina's attorney is right and they have the perp under observation. Because as long as this perp is on the loose, every child is at risk.IMO I'm wondering if this could be a copy cat type person or a relative of a serial child murder? I mean' JW' from AMW' did say he thought other cases of missing children could be connected. Maybe the perp knows stuff about the other cases decided to act and confuse the LE? Ok' I know this might be a far fetched idea!!

Investigators search for loud Honda
BY DANA TREENSTORY UPDATED AT 5:43 PM ON THURSDAY, NOV. 19, 2009
Clay County authorities are searching for an older, faded gray Honda with a loud muffler after a girl said the driver asked her if she needed a ride then followed her through an apartment complex parking lot.
The girl's mother said her daughter went to collect the mail at the Park at Blanding Apartments in the 200 block of Blairmore Boulevard Wednesday when a male in a car asked her if she wanted a ride.
She said no and started to walk away, according to a Clay County Sheriff's Office report. She told investigators the vehicle started to follow her before speeding out of the parking lot.

I guess I am feeling that if they released COD in this case the public speculation would not be so great.
Maybe I want to read the COD so I can see for myself, did she die of a fall? Was there abuse, strangling, a clear case of homicidal intent?
I just don't understand why it is taking so long for results in this case, especially if she was attacked as her mother insinuated. When LE goes silent for me; it gives me cause for pause and I have pause for cause in this case.
How did she die? What did the ME uncover? Is there No COD? If so release the info; not all but at least some. Is the public in danger?
Well of course I believe you always are, no matter who you are......
And live as such. I feel awful that this case has not been resolved.
Is it such a good idea for LE to waste precious resources and time, investigating ALL SO in the area? When have we ever seen this result in an arrest? It didn't even happen in Couey's sick case.

ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- The reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case of a slain Orange Park girl whose body was found in a Georgia landfill has risen to $64,000.
Two nonprofit organizations, the Jacksonville-based Justice Coalition and CrimeStoppers, are offering rewards of $48,000 and $16,000, respectively, for information in the homicide of Somer Thompson.

This is crazy!! A $64,000 reward and no solid clues!
I have racked my brain and, for the life of me, Somer's abduction makes absolutely no sense.
How can there be NO evidence? No eyewitnesses? No one heard anything?

 Where is Somer's killer? I truly hope and pray the LE have lots more than they are releasing, and that they DO have someone in their sights. Perhaps waiting on the DNA to come back to nail them? Waiting for them to do something else illegal so they can get them? I don't know. Just worried... too hard to think about. That poor family having to deal with the loss of such a young gal. And yet, even with a large reward for info, we're still at a stand still. I often see people post that the family needs to get the reward up higher....doesn't seem like that helps. Does anyone know of a crime that was solved due to the reward? Off hand, I can't think of any. Makes me think the perp must have been solo. Typically SOMEONE talks.... ugh.... :crying:

I can't believe this case is still unsolved. Someone surely knows something.
Thanksgiving is tomorrow, I feel badly for Somer's family.
Oh I feel badly for them too..
I can relate somewhat..My 16 year old niece got killed just a couple of months ago in a wreak. This will be our families first Thanksgiving and Christmas without her. She didnt die such a horrible death as Somer, but it was still tragic and very unexpected.
I am also surprised that someone has not been arrested for Somer's murder. LE was so on top of things finding her. And now just nothing...I just pray that the person that did this is caught!

Good Work on the last thread; I hope that this is the perp they are looking for. They impounded two vehicles! So they must be onto something.
Does any one have info on this guys previous crimes? What is his MO; and is it similar to what happened to little Somer?
It's good to know this is NOT a cold case. Not at all. The circumstances in this case are so random. Somer was somewhere she wasn't supposed to be. What kind of person preys on little kids like that? If this guy was working at the burned out house and he has a previous record of SO then I want to know everything there is to know about him. Period end of story.
No sun shining on this case. YET. I guess that I would hope for more info being released in the case. I still want to know COD. MOD COD and what DNA evidence is being tested? I'm sure they now are working on all vaccuuming evidence from this guys two vehicles.
That will take some time, a few weeks have passed now. I'm hoping they find something, a hair.....evidence of her being in his possession at some point.
If not; then I hope they release all the info; cod mod and LE does some kind of update. I think they should, and plea for anyone to come forward if they think their SO (significant other) is acting out of order, strangely or was in the vicinity the day she died. Someone knows something.

It is beyond discouraging that after the rapid discovery of Somer's body, there has been absolutely nothing else. I hope the case is not cold, and the holdup is really the processing of all the evidence. I know many of our country's labs are backed up, but you would think that given the likelihood that a murdering child predator is free to strike again, that processing this evidence would be of highest prioirity. Of course, there is the possibility that it has been processed and nothing has come out of it, which is even more depressing.
