Just curios and cant find answer.

Why do alot of BOARDS just go by the day/date instead of topics, the way it used me ?

I don't know but I don't find it helpful in the least. When a topic is moving quickly (especially true on the "Missing" thread), it makes the most sense to have comments posted under a particular subject thread - how else can you possibly find out what's going on?

So many of the dated threads are filled with useless comments. I work all day with no computer in sight and get home only to have to wade thru pages and pages of repeat information, budding roses, questions that were answered days ago, angry and pointless statements ie: "Let me at him and I'll make him suffer!". Waste of my time. I guess if I were sitting all day at the computer with nothing else to do, it wouldn't be such a big deal...

Also it is virtually impossible to backtrack and return to an informative entry unless you've kept copious notes on dates, times and post #.

Just my two cents and I hope my comment applies to your query!

When did we start getting allowed 10,000 messages and not just the 30 in our pms before we had to empty them out? Thats a lot of pms, you could pm somebody and 4 years later they bring it back up to you!!

I am guessing it's because that makes the moderator's job a little easier.

Sorry you are wrong. No one ever made it a rule, it was done as posters voted in a poll.

If someone starts a topic thread and it STAYS on topic it is NOT deleted.

My guess would be because most "topics" have their own thread so a date is all that is needed.

We all know who we're discussing by the thread title..

Open court is for the odd topics. IMO :read:

Look at all the confusion on Somer's thread today. There's way too much varying info being posted and so much that has already been posted and discussed being brought up again and again. Now if there were various headings, confusion could possibly be kept at a minimum - here are some examples:
Condolences
Vacant House
Who'se Who
Somer's Father
Police Reports
Other Criminal Activity in Neighborhood
Daily Summary

Most people don't have the time to read through each and every post. I'm sure it's those of us who don't have the time that end up posting a newspaper article that's already been posted numerous times yesterday AND discussed.

Maybe even if someone (???) could summarize the highlights of these fast paced crimes, there would be more involvement. Too many people get criticized for jumping in without enough info. I doubt a lot of them come back.

Just a few thoughts on the subject.

ITA! There are mannnny days when I do not have the time to follow pages upon pages of posts.

But, I would like to know what's going on and I'm told to 'go back and READ'.

Well, sorry dude, I don't have nearly as much free time as others.

I'm following Somers case right now, but the time will come when I'm involved with projects that don't allow me to follow the boards so I have to drop the case here and just Google for periodic updates.

Usually there is a "link" thread with links and new info discussed in the general thread.

Sometimes reading just 'links' is all it takes to stay caught up.

MOO

I could be wrong but the "links" I've perused are almost always linked to newspaper articles or photographs (that's the point, right?) I think we all have heard complaints about the inaccuracy of many of the newspaper articles posted, not to mention just how invaluable the insight from neighbors, families and friends can be. The links are OK but nothing compares to ideas and facts presented by posters. It would just be more on topic and concise if there were headings and those of us who have jobs away from a computer, children, sick relatives, etc., etc. could get just the relevant facts sans the pages of weeping roses and offers of coffee and donuts and copious "thank you's" to the poster who opens the newest daily thread! I hate navigating my way through all that while hoping to get one useful nugget of info.

But that's just me!

How many infractions lead to permanent ban? :blushing:

5 infractions cause an automatic ban, the mods don't do it, it's set up w/the system that way. We note the infractions when we feel it's not enough to ban with or deny access but after 5 it's too many the way they figured when they set it up.

without any previous infractions.
That happened to me under my Atlantis nick.
One negative comment in the political threads was enough.
That's why I try to avoid the political discussions.

Not all bannings are by infractions. Yes you can get banned with "one comment" taking into consideration what that comment was.

Racist, personal, vulgar, etc etc etc etc
