Confused also. The landfill is 75 miles from her home? is this correct or someone here guestimating from a map online?
I thought that LE said she was at the landfill where that specific set of homes garbage went. I guess I assumed it was a few miles from her home?

Was she found this far from home? that doesn't sound right to me...

OK I'm glad I'm not the only one bugging out (kidding of course LOVE your name)...LOL...& NO I'm NOT guesstimating - I found THIS MAP & DETAILS on Jacksville News website, they prepared it NOT me...and they were searching 2 landfill sites & YES it seems her body was found at the landfill FARTHEST from her home (approx 80 miles away) and NOT the landfill that her neighbourhoods garbage is carted too (approx 20 miles away)!!!!!!!!!

Rosemary Hill is a landfill. What was off loaded there was "specified" solid waste. The rest was trucked over to Georgia, ie garbage.

Investigators are searching the Chesser Island landfill in Folkston Georgia and the Rosemary Hill landfill near Green Cove Springs, Florida. Trash from the missing girl’s neighborhood is taken to the Rosemary Hill landfill and then to the Chesser Island landfill.

Sgt. Dan Mahla of the Sheriff’s Office said investigators spent two hours Tuesday searching the Georgia landfill, then returned Wednesday at 7 a.m. Into the night on Wednesday, lights had been erected to enable investigators to seek more clues.

Trash from the neighborhood where Somer’s family lived is taken to Rosemary Hill, then transferred to the Georgia landfill. Rosemary Hill was searched Tuesday.

This would mean that she was most likely killed very quickly. But what was trash pick up day? Tuesday Morning?

The actual pick up day is not listed here on this Clay County website, (scroll down to the Orange Park heading) if we really want to know what day of the week we will have to phone them in the morning...

"There are sex offenders living in all communities," says Jill Levenson, a professor of psychology at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla., who specializes in studying sex-crimes policy.

The number of offenders in the area surrounding Somer's home "may seem like a lot, but where do we think they're going to be living?"

Local ordinances prohibiting sex offenders from settling near schools, day care centers, and parks can affect the density of offenders in a particular area – a relatively new phenomenon, says Corey Yung, a professor at John Marshall Law School in Chicago.

Sex offender clusters exist in some parts of Florida – though Orange Park does not qualify.

• The Miami Herald recently reported on more than 70 sex offenders living under the Julia Tuttle Causeway in Miami because they couldn't find legal residences.

• Similarly, 35 sex offenders were found living in the same apartment complex outside Pahokee, Fla.

• A woman in central Florida has planned to open a day care center, thereby forcing 100 sex offenders to move out of the area, which includes a local school bus stop.

Florida – along with Georgia and Louisiana – tend to have the toughest sex-offender laws. It has the third most registered sex offenders in the nation and ranks sixth per capita.

According to the article, a public memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Orange Park, 1140 Kingsley Ave. and a public viewing will be at the same church from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday. Graveside services and burial will be private.
