Deputies Looking For Missing Girl
CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- Clay County sheriff's deputies are searching an Orange Park neighborhood for a girl who they said has been missing since Monday afternoon.
Deputies said 7-year-old Somer Renee Thompson was last seen in the Grove Park neighborhood. They said the girl's mother called police and said her daughter never returned home from school.
She is described as 3 feet, 5 inches tall and 65 pounds with brown hair in a pony tail. She was last seen wearing a cranberry-colored jumpsuit with pink striped sleeves. She also had a black, pink and white colored backpack with a skull and hearts.
Deputies said the girl was last seen at 2:45 p.m. walking home from Grove Park Elementary School near West Gano Avenue and Debarry Avenue with her sister and friends but separated from them after an argument and ran toward her home.

Sheriff: We're Leaving No Stone Unturned in Search for Missing Child
"We would ask that the public assist us in providing any information that anyone may have about this little girls whereabouts...she has been missing for about seven hours now," said Beseler.
He added, "We're hoping that Somer has gone maybe to a friend's house or something like that, but we're leaving no stone unturned. We're diligently looking right now and we need help from the public."

Wonder how old the siblings and friends are?
I wish they had said that in the articles.
The comments to the first article say hundreds of people are out looking for her. This is so scary and I'm praying for this little cutie. I swore I would never follow another case due to the attachment I have for Haleigh but I feel like I know those people down there. The same media, etc. I'm so scared for her family.

I know how you feel Teresa. I said that after following the cases of Jessica Lunsford, Caylee Anthony and Haleigh. Funny how we feel attached to them but we do.
This disappearance frightens me too. The wording about the siblings and friends is strange. Just gives me a hinky feeling.
And it's cold tonight in FL. I read on another forum that her sibling is 10 but several articles have already had facts wrong so who knows how old she is.
Someone watching live news said that she got mad once and didn't come home for a few hours per the news but it has been almost 10 hours. The maps of her street show nice homes but there are also a lot of SO within a 3 mile radius.
ETA Haleigh was my first case ever. I don't know how you've made it through 3. I'm so worried about this little girl. :(

There are 53 sex offenders in the area.
Somer apparently had an argument with one of the other children and may have hit the child with her backpack and ran off.
I pray she's found soon.

They have interviewed all known sex offenders within a three mile radius of Somer's home.
They'll search the same areas of the woods again today. Beseler says they don't know if there is a connection, but 10 days ago, Orange Park Police investigated a report of an attempted abduction about a block away from Somer's home.
Sheriff Beseler says the description of that car is a blue Nissan Sentra with two hispanic men and one hispanic woman in it.
They don't know if it's connected with Somer's disappearance, but Beseler says he wanted to get that information out.
The FBI, Fish and Wildlife and FDLE are assisting Clay County Deputies.
:rose: praying for Somer's safe return
Oh God, what a nightmare!! Prayers for sweet Somer and her family and that this morning brings word of her being found in safety.
On the video I watched, the Sheriff stated ' I have been told she does have a history of doing something similar to this, but we cannot assume that that happened this time. We are treating this as a missing child investigation and pouring all resources into this that we have.'
I am always amazed/disgusted at the number of surrounding SO's., apparently that number is 'normal'...like being in the lions den.
Sheriff 'I'm very concerned now, because as you can see, it is dark and cold and a 7 year old should be home'

It was really cold last night for her to be out somewere. I also work at an elementary school and it will be interesting if parents care enough to pick their children up today.

I think the little boy in the picture is her twin brother.
The link I posted upthread has been updated with more information about a previous attempted abduction. Very frightening.
The mother said the attempted abduction of her daughter occurred on Oct. 10 at the corner of Gano Avenue and Grove Park Drive, about a block from where Somer was last seen. The mother said she learned of the abduction attempt from a woman who saw the incident, scared off the potential kidnappers and followed her daughter home to report what happened.
The mother said a woman in a car, possibly a blue Nissan SUV, drove up to the girl about while she was riding her bike three blocks from her home. There were also two men in the vehicle.
“The lady was trying to lure my daughter in, saying, “Your mother told me for you to get in the car so I can take you home,” the mother said. “My daughter said no. This other lady saw everything happen. She said they instantly drove off.”

From what I've read it is a 2.2 mile walk from the school to her home and it was 0.6 miles to her home from where she was last seen.
Waaay too far, in my opinion, to expect young children to be walking, but apparently, in that part of Florida, you have to live >2 miles to have school bus service. Wrong way to save money, if you ask me!
I hope she is found safely but don't have a good feeling about it.

I believe the 2 mile rule is universal in Florida. I know it was that way when my Son was in school. We lived close to the school so he was a 'car rider'. In Somar's case, ITA, that was to far for her to be walking.
This one isn't looking good. An earlier attempted abduction and now Somar. I hope she is found. :rose:

I haven't heard anything on the news about this little girl. I pray she is found safe and sound!I am just sick about this child. I am also disappointed that it took so long to issue a Amber alert. When a child this young goes missing, alerts should go out stat. It can always be pulled if the child is found.
I hope this sheriff keeps the public more informed then Putnam County, Sheriff Hardy has. These first crucial hours are so important.
I have not heard about local schools being on alert.
Hoping for a press conference VERY soon this AM. I also question if there were any extra deputies on patrol in this area due to the attempted abduction just last week?
I to swore I would not become involved in another child abduction after getting involved in the Haleigh Cummings case.
I hope everyone is praying for a safe return. My Good, when is this killing of our children going to stop?

I am still mad that the Amber Alert wasn't issued sooner because she had previously "run away". As I mentioned earlier, to me it makes no difference why a child had left before or now, the fact that the child had left and no one knows where she or he is, should be enough for an alert.
In addition, per this article below, Somer didn't "run away" before, she had to a friend's house (I'm assuming she didn't tell anyone):
"Beseler says they don't want to get sidetracked. One time a year ago where Somer went to a neighbor's house and was back home safely. Beseler says it's not relevant to this. "
http://wokv.com/localnews/2009/10/1130am-update-on-search-for-so.html
I had done that as a kid myself - that does not constitute "running away", IMO.
I am also puzzled by this statement in the same article:
"They still don't believe she was abducted but they believe it reaches the criteria."
If it "reaches the criteria", then why don't believe she was abducted?

The search area was expanded to 3 miles early this morning, and just before 11 this morning, law enforcement expanded the search to a 5-mile radius. Beseler said there is "no indication" this is an abduction; he also said Somer does not have a history of running away this was in the first newspaper report that I read. Bolding mine. If a 7 year old doesnt come home for hours, what does it constitute ? And I think the mother should not have wasted precious time searching for her but, that is JMo and in no way critical.
What a mess. And, yes, Florida is a haven for predators just like it is for the homeless. There are children abducted for pornagraphic purposes, which makes me think about the woman being in the car. Children will trust a woman. I live in Florida and have seen it.

They still DON'T believe she was abducted but they believe it reaches the criteria.
Beseler says they're still following up on the attempted abduction of a 5 year-old girl in Orange Park 10 year-old, but he's quick to point out that they DON'T believe the two are connected.
This is the first people are hearing about the attempted abduction of the 5 year-old. Beseler couldn't say why it's only now being reported. none of this makes sense. What a bunch of clowns and the children pay for it.

I'm surprised at the comment about Somer running off before. Why would a 7 year old run off? We're talking a 7 year old little girl, not a 17 year old teenager who gets mad and take off for a few hours.
Something about this sounds odd to me. How old was the oldest child walking with this group? Why were kids 5-7 walking home alone...a mile from the bus stop?
It was originally reported that Somer previously "ran away", but an article I posted here recently, now says she had gone to a friend's house, and I'm assuming her family didn't know where she was. If the reports are referring to the same incident, she most certainly didn't run away before, but simply didn't tell her family where she was going (I did that when I was a kid, too, only because kids don't realize the significance of a child being missing or the family not knowing where he/she is).

ORANGE PARK, FL -- There is no person of interest and no physical evidence in the case of 7-year-old Somer Thompson who disappeared on her way home from school and has been missing about 24 hours now.
Clay County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Dan Mahla said at a news conference this afternoon that there have been 150 leads called in; 80 have been investigated so far.
"We suspect foul play," Mahla said, adding that right now Somer is considered an endangered child because of her age, the low temperatures last night and her size.

The walk from school evidently takes 15 minutes. Somer got into a fight with one of the other kids, twin brother, 10 year old sister or one of the friends, She ran ahead, presumably towards home.
How could she disappear into thin air in broad daylight? I know, things happen in a split second, but surely someone must have seen something? Was this a residential road, or rural?
This doesn't sound good at all, my heart goes out to the family..I can't imagine the anguish.

From Riverwalks post.
Who is the person that gets the kids after school? A guardian, mother's bf?
Said he was a "family friend" that lives with them.
She said they instantly drove off.”

god. it is my understanding though that the a report was filed, but the investigating officer did not let the school know. Bad but not as bad as no report at all.
Bottom line, it is very unlikely that the school knowing would have protected her :(
this won't end well. The only thing i wonder is could it have a conection to haleigh as well. It is so close.
Another briefing about 4 PM this afternoon. Canceled my DR. Apt. to keep up on this little girl. I live here in Clay County and hope and pray this child is safe. She is only a hour away from Putnam County where little Haleigh Cummings went missing.
I almost wish there is a cnx to haleigh, bc i have little trust in the PC sheriff department. This sheriff is at least talking to the public, giving information and not playing it to close to the vest.
Praying for little somer

I hope LE has questioned every single person who lives on that street between where Somer left the group, and her home. It's possible not all residents are aware of a possible abduction. Maybe someone can remember a vehicle...something.

Thanks for the info. Any neighbors report seeing Somer running down the street towards her house?
Sheriff didn't say. Did say that all the neighbors have opened their homes to search. The "family friend" was Sean/Shawn (sp) Patton or Patten. I did find a Shawn Patten in Orange Park Florida doing some searching. Just seemed odd that he would send the little ones to find Somer when she wasn't home with the others got there. She ran ahead (after some teasing/chasing). She should have gotten there first.

Apparently, after Somer ran ahead, at some point she was "out of sight" according the the PC. I think there may have been a turn in the road, or an intersection.
It seems to be such a small time frame, just minutes.

The parents should've been told if there was an attempted abduction days ago. I don't blame the school but do blame LE for not getting the word out. They should've had officers patroling the streets and parents would've taken necessary measures to ensure their kids got home safely. I don't know. I'm getting really frustrated with LE in these cases. They're always a day late and a dollar short. What will it take for them to take these matters seriously? A dead child? Geeessh...I'm sure they've heard of Haleigh Cummings case and many other missing kids in Florida. Heck, they even had a description of the vehicle and the perps. I'm flabbergasted.

Florida police are searching for 7-year-old Somer Renee Thompson, who disappeared on Oct. 19, 2009.
Somer left school at 2:50 p.m. that Monday, and was walking home from school with her twin brother, her 10-year-old sister, and some friends when she ran ahead of the group, toward her home.

You can be sure if it's the same 3 who tried to lure the other girl, they wouldn't stop and converse with Somer this time. They would've just grabbed her.

All these missing children are an outrage. The sheriff at the pressor said the Mother's friend asked where Somer was when the children got home and told them to go out looking for her. When the Mother called approx. 1 hour later the Mother's friend told her the other children were out looking for Somer. The Mother was at work and left work and notified LE immediatly upon her having been informed.
I wonder why the friend didn't take the other kids and go looking for her with them with him?
I wonder why the Mother's friend (or some trusted someone) wasn't at the school to pick them up each day? So sad.
Also, has anything been said about the biological Father or his whereabouts?
The sheriff at the pressor said the other children (all Somer's siblings) left the school without her and that she caught up with them as they made their walk home.
I sure wish they would've known how unsafe that was to leave before they were all together. Poor little dears. My heartfelt prayers to the family. Such a pity children can't be safe in their own neighborhoods.
The dad lives in N. Carolina. They are separated.

Anyone know where Somer lives? I'm trying to figure out the route.
Seem to be residential, a lot of cul de sacs, and some wooded areas on the satellite view.

Looking at this, it's a straight line of view from where she was last seen by the kids, till the bend to the left. She was practically home.
There's also a treed area with no homes on the left side at the end of Debarry. If the kids weren't paying attention, could she have been taken from there? Or could she have taken a short cut through those woods?

I know what you mean lune. Did the same with my 2 boys and now they're young men and I still worry. I would drive them to school in the morning and then they would stay in daycare until I picked them up after work. The day they told me they wanted to ride the school bus like the other kids, I was horrified. It's nuts. No parent or child should live in fear this way. I could understand if it was at night then parents should be vigilant but during the day? What kind of world do we live in that these poor kids can't be kids? The woman told the little girl to get in the car and said it was okay because Mom said so. The little girl took off crying and a woman nearby intervened.

I have a feeling it's the same gang who took Somer.
It's just too odd to not be related. One thing that helped the other girl was the BICYCLE. Teach your kids to never, ever let go of their bike. Really hard to snatch a kid and a BIKE and put them in the car. Bikes don't fit well through a regular car door.

It is getting so sad I keep saying I can not follow anymore but it is to hard to get them out of my mind I have followed Caylee, Haleigh, Sandra, Nevaeh, and Robert, and several others and seems they always turn out so sad. I pray she comes home safe:sad:

Foul Play Suspected In Missing Girl's Disappearance
Tuesday, October 20, 2009 6:09:42 PM
ORANGE PARK -- Investigators in Clay County say they now fear that foul play may be involved in the disappearance of a 7-year-old girl.
Somer Thompson was last seen Monday afternoon walking home from Grove Park Elementary School.
She met up with her two siblings then got ahead of them, and has not been see since.
Deputies on horseback, K-9 deputy units, sheriff's helicopters and dive teams are conducted a massive search, which extended into parts of the Jacksonville area.
Officials said they've received hundreds of leads, and interviewed nearly 60 registered sexual offenders and predators.
They have also interviewed friends and places she likes to visit, but still can't find the girl.
"Obviously we suspect foul play in the fact that she did not come home last night,” said Sgt. Dan Mahla from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office. “This is totally out of character for her in fact due to the climate conditions the age and the size of that child it be very, very tough for her to survive."
Somer is about 3-foot-5-inches and weight 65 pounds.
Anyone with information of her whereabouts is asked to call 911.
That was my first thought. Why such a long walk home at that age? No school buses for those younger kids that live that far? That is an S.O.'s dream, in my opinion. Where was mom at the time or the sitter?
And why wasn't the attempted abduction days ago reported to LE?
frankiebones, i really think florida has to stop its 2 mile rule for elementary schools at least. Most families these days both work, this one had someone who was home for the kids but really its not that abnormal for kids to walk home from school together in a community when they are all used to it.
Ideally parents or caretakers can pick them up but most kids want to walk home with their friends, and unless you read crime boards like here it isn't considered dangerous..heck the school boards themself say its ok bc they won't give buses to kids who are less than 2 miles away. Parents dont think it will happen
I can sort of see the guy at the house sending off them off to look for her, again unless you suspect or have an inkling something is wrong, your first thought is she is dawdling or she may be in the park or or or. It was such a short time line too..and kids go off and play on their own especially after an argument with their sibling.
this is going to be another tragedy methinks, i just pray they catch the person unlike the other little girl who disappeared on her walk home, the little baum girl.

Oh yes and that's a very scary thought ~ we all know what happened and she wasn't found too far away. :crying:
Only if you have 50 sex offenders living in the area. How sad that children aren't safe walking to and from school anymore. We used to walk that everyday when I was Somer's age. In 10 feet of snow in the winter.
What a horrible world these poor kids live in. What happened?
In no way do i want to downplay the danger, but when we were kids the sex offenders were still there we just couldn't track them. Also out of the 50 there will be a lot that are convicted of offenses against adults, rape of women or peeping toms, plus the poor guys who get put on the list bc they had sex with their g/f who was underage and both were teens. Which doesn't make i better in general but shows that there may not be 50 SO's who target children
The ones that scare me more aren't the RSO's. It is all the sick creeps who haven't been caught for anything sexual and are pedophiles. seems to me an rso is less likely to do something close to home (remember couey was visiting, thats why cops never knew he was there at first, its not where he lived) than the ones who are not known to LE yet.
Mark Klaas pointed out its not just florida, plug in your zip and you will find that sort of number all over the country :(

VC2, ITA. I cannot think that the average person would assume she was abducted in this circumstance. I think the caretaker did what a normal one would..."go back and find your sister. You should have been watching her. You are older."

There's a long building along Debarry which isn't a house. I wonder what it is.
I also wonder if the kids can pinpoint exactly where they stopped seeing Somer walking ahead (if they paid attention). One article said "when she was out of view", which would point to it being where the road curves to Horton as Debarry is straight. If there, it so close to home...it reminds me of Sandra Cantu, so close to home.

I was horrified to hear from tv news (Fox) about the attempted abduction just 10 days prior to Somer being missing. I like LE's wording that there's no reason to believe it's connected and no reason to believe it's not.
Where are children safe anymore? they've been abducted from their beds in the night, from their front yards with neighbors viewing the abduction. Schools in the afternoon or morning have got to be abductor's dream world. We can't hold them on our laps til they're 21 and even after that age they get abducted. I don't know what the answer is. The abductors don't seem to fear reprisal from society's justice system.
LE should get word out to communities immediately with any attempted crimes like this one 10 days before Somer.
I don't think anywhere can be considered safe, and no parenting style is the cause of these horrific cases. Be it "the best" or anything but an all american family. Like you said it happens everywhere, from the childs bedroom while family sleeps to schools to the park to walking to a friends house. The creeps are male and female, they don't care one whit for the penalty though. First of all, unlike us, they think they won't be caught. Secondly, if they suspect they will be caught then they murder the child. The few who seem to be found alive are the ones kept to torture and rape for years or at least longer than 24 hours and then its normally pure luck they are found.
If anything the death penalty for abducting and raping a child would only increase the number murdered because then there truly is no reason for them to free the child or even keep him/her alive long enough to be found.
I am at the point that i think rebuild a ghost town in a desert or on an island and they can have businesses, shops, all the normal stuff but no children and cannot leave the town as a place to put them after their sentence.

Yes, MSG. LE seems pretty vocal with the public about this. Keeping the public in the loop is a great idea. As to Jaycee....what kills me is that her stepdad was the POI for 18 years. We allow Predators all the normals of life once their time is served. We give them normalcy while a beast lies within. They reoffend. They scar children forever...yet when their time is served...they go back to the game. I think your ghost town idea is perfect, although I could think of several groups who would call it a civil rights vioation. Remember, children don't have civil rights. They don't pay taxes and they don't vote, so they hold little value in our justice system. Sad IMO

Yes, that made it even worse that the step-dad was the POI for all those years, with him knowing not only that he didn't do anything to her, but that he seen her abduction and nobody really believed him.
ITA with Sunstar that this case, with Somer, may be similar to the Dugard case because of a woman, possibly being involved along with some men.

Yes...basically if they want a child then nothing will stop them. One family may be lucky enough that something stops them from succeeding with theirs but another one won't be. If they want a specific child they will get them, unless the child is put in prison where no one can get to her. Even being with your family like Jaycee, step dad watching her doesn't help.
We as humans are likely to try and find something to blame, be it in the family or the school. That way our kids will be "safe" because we are good parents or don't let them walk home, or don't do drugs etc. Unfortunately it gives a false sense of safety. Neveah's case was an example, as was Tori's. Parents were far far from perfect but it wouldn't have mattered if they were perfect, as we see in all the other cases.

And why wasn't the attempted abduction days ago reported to LE?
MY son in the 2nd 3 and 4 grade did not have a bus they had a cross walker and off they all went no buses as all for them so I was lucky enough to meet him or pick him up. on NG they said pretty much all the kids walked home around there IMO my 7 or 10 yr old would NEVER walk home but I see and read these boards and cases and there would be No way if they were that age. My 13 son just now is allowed to walk 2 blocks home. I am so overprotective and worry myself into panic attacks so I dont think it is wrong if the parents teach them what to do if they have no other choice but to walk
I would like to know why this attempted abduction was not reported so LE could perhaps warn local schools to take extra precaution and to let parents know. JMO

ITA, nothing will stop them. Look at Jaycee's abductor [don't know his name], he sized her up when she was with a group. So he followed her. Learned where she lived. And went back later. Only he didn't see her step-dad. He was one of the lucky pedo's, fortunate that LE thought the SD did it. A miracle that Jaycee was found and he along with his sick wife will never see the outside again.
Kids from great homes, and bad ones can get taken. Doesn't matter. ITA that many feel safer in their own lives if they can find negative things about the families from these types of kidnappings. Makes them think it can never happen to them.
There was boy in Tampa, over the weekend, who was, thankfully found. If he hadn't been, his family would have been pegged as one of the 'bad ones'. {he was last seen leaving his house at 4:30 AM, and is only 10 y.o}

I keep thinking of the case last week, in California, and wishing for a similar outcome.... 11 year old Jacqueline Miller, who disappeared on the way home from school too. And similarly there had been a near abduction incident in the area a little time before. Jacqueline was missing overnight and things didn't look good at all, especially because of the attempted abduction, and her backpack was found in a partly demolished house the next day.
She was eventually found in a mobile home park, by a resident. She had stayed away from home because she was mad at her mom...a gutsy little streetwise kid who hid the whole time.
Here, it's different. Little Somer was so close to home and she certainly isn't a runaway. I wish there was some explanation, and that she will be found safe, but things don't look very optimistic.

I was thinking the same thing and I'm sure they are (LE).
I'm not thinking the same thing, though it crossed my mind.
If Somer had come home, there would have only been minutes before her siblings arrived. And after that, they looked for her and the mom came home by 4.
Oh, unless you mean close to home as in the neighbourhood.

Volunteers: We Will Search All Night for Somer if Necessary
ORANGE PARK, FL -- The search for little Somer Thompson will go all night long if necessary, involving police and volunteers.
Flyers are everywhere in Orange Park tonight. While many neighbors and total strangers are handing them out, others are searching for any sign of the little girl.

There was boy in Tampa, over the weekend, who was, thankfully found. If he hadn't been, his family would have been pegged as one of the 'bad ones'. {he was last seen leaving his house at 4:30 AM, and is only 10 y.o}

Your guess is as good as mine.
The things kids do, doesn't really amaze me, anymore.
A good amount of the 'attempted abductions' in my area have later been found to be false. The child made up the story because, they had skipped school, or stayed out past curfew, to name a couple of reasons.

You're right there would've only been minutes. I'm thinking anyone close to home. But they've said in some news articles they've searched and cleared over 50 SO's in the immediate radius and have been looking in a wider radius. If someone in a vehicle took her no telling where they might have gone with her. It's so scary to think of. They could be anywhere.
Gosh, it's so scary cause it only takes seconds.
On NG, she said they've looked into 80 some RSO now. They're widening the net. They've got alot of jurisdictions and resources helping out on this. The community is coming together strong. I hope she is found!!!

I agree, and I only also hope she is hiding somewhere. Could be a neighbors yard, a car that isn't used often, a shed, something like that.
How does one go door to door, you can ask home owners, but you cannot search inside each residence like when Jessica went missing.
I would want to search every home within a 2 miles radius. Unless someone raises an inspectors or detectives ire or hackles, how will they find her if someone has her?
This case, on top of all the others I can barely stand to click to follow because I'm afraid of what I will read when I log on. But I am sure hoping for a good outcome for her family and for little Somer.
I can't watch the video, am already too heartbroken as it is.

I live in an apartment community where there are lots of college students. They wait at a bus stop every morning to get to class.
One of the women happen to be alone that day and two men in a car got out and attempted to abduct her. She fought and got away.
Within two hours of the report, there was a notice on every resident's door about what happen. From that point on, the students started walking to and from the bus stop in groups because of this warning.
The two men were later caught because they tried again at another complex close by. They weren't trying to abduct the women but were trying to steal their purses and laptop computers... nevertheless, the women could have been hurt in the process.
The point I am making is that it is important for LE and others to make sure information is available about what is happening in the community. I am outraged that this didn't happen in Florida concerning the attempted kidnapping of a child.

I'm thinking the other kids hadn't got to the intersection where Somer was last seen yet. All the articles say that was where she was last "seen", not that it was the last place they were "with" her. This is sounding more and more like a crime of opportunity, a SO happened to see her in the right place and the right time and they acted. I think someone very close, IE a neighbor has her. I'm running out of hope she is alive. This truly sounds like an abduction and with her being so close to home, well that makes it more and more like Polly's case. Snatched, from her own home. Cutting through from that corner seems unlikely but wondering if she might have cut through the wooded area on Debarry right before you get to Horton? When the little girl who turned around to walk back home looked to wave at her friend, she was GONE. It happen in just an instant.

Marc Klaas gave statistics on Nancy Grace, he knows what he is stating and LE should as well. Chance are against a happy ending here.
BTW: I sincerely hope that the message gets out to EVERY parent that waiting to call police when a child goes missing is a horrible mistake.
I know that kids run off and not always where they say they are going to be.... but it is always best to err on the side of caution then wait and let critical time elapse.
BTW: yes, I have had children. I was fortunate that my child was always good about being where he said her would be.I also realize that not all kids are that good.

It's 52 miles from her house to the landfill they are checking
About an hour and half, probably. Maybe even an hour, interstate driving. Had to be a tip that led them outta state. Wow!!
