I saw a program about this case on one of the news magazine shows; maybe 48 Hours? It seemed that everyone involved in this case dropped the ball over and over. Denise Amber Lee should not have died and I hope that her husband and children are compensated to the degree that these types of mistakes will not happen again.:crying:

As a reminder for those that are interested, the Spencer Hearing is set for the 28th.

As a reminder for those that are interested, the Spencer Hearing is set for the 28th. THanks for the reminder - I wonder if there will be cameras live-streaming in the courtroom. Not sure I can stand to hear why this awful man deserves any leniency.
I'm glad to know about the lawsuit;things need to change in that department. I think there should also be a case for obstruction of justice or maybe a civil suit against that relative of Kings that could have saved her. He saw what was happening and knew she was being held against her will.

When he finally called LE he was less than useless in his vague report.

Does anybody have a link - or update - to what's going on in today's Spencer Hearing?

Nothing, Annie. I've looked all morning. The hearing started at 9am according to the clerks site. I found a couple of articles mentioning the hearing but no LIVE links. Guess we're in the dark on this one.

Apparently the defense didn't bother to bring up the bump to King's head again! Personally, I wouldn't have wasted 20 minutes trying to mitigate the heinousness of this guy's crimes!

Thanks for finding that.

20 minutes? FGS, that doesn't seem like enough time to spend on such an important thing. I hope this isn't used later on, in his appeal, to say that his attorney didn't give it his all in trying to spare his life.

What on earth else was there left to say on the subject? I'm curious to see if King came out of his fake catatonic state long enough to address the judge. What a waste of humanity. I feel bad for his son, and even worse for Denise's family.

Oh, don't get me wrong, it would be a bunch of hog wash talk, IMO. I'm just used to these Spencer Hearings lasting longer than this.

SARASOTA - It was the last chance to present evidence to try and save Michael King before a judge rules on whether he should get the death penalty or life in prison.

In August, a jury unanimously recommended that Michael King should go to death row for killing Denise Amber Lee in 2008.

The hearing was scheduled for two days, but it only took 20 minutes.

King came into court sporting a full beard. It's a look we've seen before but much different from his two-week trial a few months back.

His defense team presented the judge with old bankruptcy, foreclosure, and divorce records, school transcripts showing learning deficiencies, and other paper work. Kings lawyers then talked to their client briefly.

The judge made sure King did want to make a statement on his behalf, which he did not.

Denise Lee's father and husband were on hand and had a chance to speak as well. They too declined to speak.

"We had already spoke at the trial and really there wasn't anything more to say. I think the whole family would have liked to say something. Unfortunately, with the legal process it wasn't something that was a good idea with appeals and everything. You can't really say what you want anyway. It's all redacted," says Nathan Lee.

The judge has all the information he needs to make his decision. The greatest weight of course will be the jury's 12 to 0 recommendation on giving King the death penalty. He is scheduled to make that decision on December 4th.

The defense lawyer did the best he could -as is his job. Nobody else decided to speak today - including the defendant. So what would they carry on with?
