Someone apparently took Ainsling on Monday as her parents were working cleaning up a deceased relatives property. An Asian woman was seen talking to Aisling. I hope whoever took her took her because they wanted a child and are taking good care of her.

How heartbreaking! I wonder if they've even considered that she might have wandered away on her own and gotten lost. It almost sounds like they are only thinking she was abducted.

I think they're thinking abduction because hasn't been found and it's been three days. I hope everyone close by has thorough checked any unused refrigerators or dryers, their car trunks, and anywhere else a small child might crawl into and hide.

I live a few minutes down the road from where little Aisling Symes went missing and just wanted to say that the search effort has been massive. With 140 police and approx 100 volunteers combing every nook and cranny in a 3km radius for 3 days. The police dogs, helicopters, boats and dive teams were also deployed. They have found no trace of Aisling and now have to face that she has been abducted.

Children missing in New Zealand is a rarity. I heard on the news tonight something like 9 children total are missing in our country. There has been a facebook group set up for Aisling that has regular updates called Find Aisling Symes - sorry cant link am posting via phone. Hoping for Aislings safe return
Customs on alert
Meanwhile, police are stepping up precautions to ensure Aisling is not taken out of the country as they admit they are no closer to solving the case.
Aisling's father Alan Symes immigrated to New Zealand from Ireland and the story has made the news in his home country as local efforts to find her intensify.
Police fear she may have been abducted.
Customs staff have been given photographs of Aisling and are getting briefings at the start of each shift.
"Continue to be vigilant in profiling children and minors at all times whilst on departures, please be aware Symes is on border alert," NZ Customs manager Eddie Kohlhase tells staff.
The toddler doesn't have a passport so they have to rely on photographs to identify her.

She's such a cutie. I hope she's found safe soon.
'Just look after Aisling', toddler's parents message to abductor
Suspicious behaviour had been reported in the area recently, he said, but he would not say whether that involved paedophiles.
"We will be profiling people of interest who were either predisposed to that type of behaviour or living in the area."
Yesterday, police went door-knocking. They want people to report any suspicious behaviour within 5km of Longburn Rd.
Early this week, police said an Asian women had been seen talking to Aisling just before her disappearance. The woman was in her 30s, about 165cm tall with a medium build and long straight black hair.
She was wearing a black crew-neck top, with three-quarter-length sleeves, three-quarter-length blue jeans and black leather sandals and black socks.
She had a black and grey medium-sized dog on a lead.

This was so heartbreaking to watch. God, I hope this baby girl is found safe. My thoughts and prayers going out to her parents :rose:

Hi novel,
Please keep us posted of any new developments. Does law enforcement still believe the Asian woman is involved? I'm still trying to understand how the abduction happened. Was Aisling playing outside with her sister and mom was doing chores indoors?
Thank you for any information.
From the link posted above.
Her name, derived from her Irish father Alan's side of the family, means "vision of heaven".

N/t Le have been appealing for the Asian lady to come forward since day 2 of Aislings disappearance. The fact that she has not yet is looking very suspicious though le have not called her a suspect as yet, but they are checking known peodophiles in the area so feel they are keeping an open mind re motives of why this lady was speaking with Aisling. Questions of whether maybe there a language issue preventing her hearing calls to come forward.

though local asian media have now started to report on tv and in the paper. Her mother Angela, 6yo sister and Aisling were all in the laundry of an attached flat/unit. Tenants had moved out on the weekend and said the washing machine was problematic. I believe Angela was turning off the washer taps and next thing Aisling had gone

I have a difficult time believing that language is an issue. This woman, assuming she's the one who took Aisling knows what she did was wrong. I saw the appeals to the Asian community. I'm sure Aisling's photo is all over the television including Asian tv channels. I'm not saying she's involved but one would think after given a description of this woman, someone would come forward especially if they saw this woman with a 2 year old blonde little girl.
I think the pedophile theory is much more probable, imo.

I agree re language barrier being the issue, but wonder why she has not come forward. There was a sighting called in of a caucasian toddler with an asian couple a few suburbs over but le spoke with them and the childs parent and she was deemed not to be Aisling. As a parent myself i pray it not a pedo abduction, pretty scary to think there could be several in the area, per reports.

I know. I pray that's not the case but it's more than likely what happened. Was Aisling outdoors playing with her sister? Did her sister see anything?

Originally info given out by le of Aisling last sighted outside in front of the house. Thinking about it, that was probably per the 2 witnesses that saw her and the asian woman. Tonight during news conference Aislings mother talked about the laundry taps etc and Aisling being with her and then she was gone. Nothing has been said of if her sister saw anything.

Yes, I read that about the tap. She said she turned on the tap and within seconds Aisling was gone. That's where the confusion for me is. If Aisling was indoors, did the abductor walk into the home to snatch her? Why grab the 2 year old and not the 5 year old?
Still so many questions.

Me too :( i feel so bad for them. From all accounts they are a very much loved family by all who know them - ex neighbours, fellow church members, school mums etc. The community support is huge for this family. We all want this precious baby found
Welcome, novel1 -glad to have your perspective here.
Children can disappear so quickly in a couple of minutes. My youngest is 24 and I can still remember moments of panic when my attention would be on something for a minute or two, and I'd look up, and the child is gone.
While her mother's attention was on the washer, Aisling could have wandered outside. She could have been attracted to the dog. The Asian woman could have spoken to her innocently and walked by. Perhaps Aisling walked off after them and someone else snatched her - though if this were the case it's puzzling that the Asian woman hasn't come forward.
Officer in charge of Aisling Symes case was officer in charge of another abducted child case that ended with the child being found:

I'm a little confused at the moment. Who saw the Asian woman? Was it Aisling's parents or two other people? TIA
If this woman was walking a dog she must live nearby, right? Would it be that difficult to locate her?

Dulcinea it was 2 independent witnesses who saw Aisling with the asian lady. One was a child of 9 and the other an adult. You would think with such a strong description of the lady it wouldnt be too hard to track her down. Very frustrating

Aisling disappearance coincides with the last week of school holidays here in New Zealand, so perhaps the asian lady may have been a visitor to the area over the hols, bringing her dog with her?

I have been following this case closely just as I am sure you all have, and I pray every day this little girl is being taken care of and is in no danger.
But I do have a few questions.
Does anyone know if any of the neighbours actually saw Aisling there that day. I read a neighbour thought she heard Aisling giggling at some ducks. But did any of them physically see her on Monday at the House in Longburn street.
Did the "witness/es" actually say it was Aisling talking to this Asian woman or was it a little girl speaking to an Asian woman, that may have been Aisling.
If anyone knows the answers to this it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Angel Blessings to you all

The police truly believe the sightings of Aisling with the asian lady are credible. Perhaps the witness/es were able to describe what little Aisling was wearing to confirm that its was indeed? I too heard the lead detective talking early on that she had been seen following some ducks but have heard no more about it since.

It may be a case of the asian woman happening on Aisling as she walked her dog and she said hello or something and continued on her way. She could feel bad that Aisling is now missing. Whatever the reason though she really needs to come forward.

I have a few questions. How deep was the creek that Aisling was allowed to play by without supervision and why do LE discount that she could have been swept away? Why are LE saying this could have been a made to order abduction? How would the abductor know that Aisling would be at that house that day and unsupervised to boot? I also wonder how a toddler could have managed to make it very far, out to the street with the Asian woman, if her mother had only turned her head for a minute as she says. Do you know how far away the street is from the house? What kind of neighborhood this is? tia

I just heard on Sky New NZ that Aisling's mom was cleaning out the grandmother's home as she had apparently died recently when Aisling went missing. LE say they believe this was a targeted abduction and are likening it to the Maddie McCann case (don't want to get into people's views of Maddie's disappearance here though).

Yes, the grandmother died about a year ago. The family was either renting it or had sold it and people were going to be moving in. There had been problems with the washing machine and the mother was checking it out.
LE has never given any basis for why they think this was a targeted abduction. That scenario doesn't make much sense to me. As annalyzer said, the abductor would have had to have know the family would be there that day -- or have followed them there. Also, Aisling and her 5-year-old sister were playing alone down by the creek. If someone were looking to take Aisling, that would seem to me the time to do it -- not to hope that Aisling would wander off by herself.
News now saying there was an Asian man with a broken umbrella spotted there too:

'worst possible outcome'
LATEST: An autopsy to determine the cause of Auckland toddler Aisling Symes' death is underway, police say.
The two-year-old's body was discovered in a drain on a West Auckland property close to where she went missing, and was removed at 1.30 this morning.
Inquiry head Inspector Gary Davey said police still had a lot of work to do to find out how Aisling came to be in the drainpipe, which runs along the back of several properties in Longburn Road, Henderson.
Police believed the toddler's death was "more than likely a case of misadventure," Inspector Davey said. However police would still keep an open mind to the possibility of foul play.

Autopsy Finds Aisling Symes Drowned
An autopsy has found that Aisling Symes, whose body was found in a drain after she went missing over a week ago, drowned.
Inspector Gary Davey says he can't comment on the specific details of the autopsy, but there is no evidence of injury.
Aisling's body has now been released to her family.
Meanwhile, members of Aisling's family say the loss of the toddler is unbearable, but there is some resolution in the sense she has been found.
Two family members have spoken to journalists at Henderson Police Station, on behalf of the dead toddler's grieving parents Allan and Angela Symes.
They expressed their thanks to the community and spoke of the immense grief Aisling's parents are feeling.

Very sad. It sounds like she went out on her own to explore when mommy was doing chores.
In hindsight I wish that Asian lady would've taken her and brought her to a police station.
It only takes a split second for something like this to happen. Parents of young children, please watch your little ones and keep them close. Chores can wait. :crying:

From the description by her mum, it was such a short time span between sighting her the last time and realising she was gone...it seems hard to see how she could've wandered that far and got into that much danger, so quickly.

I agree, I didn't know they had found her! :rose: HOW HORRIBLE!
It does bother me, they knew the lid had blown off, they even searched the drain and she was down there? But they missed her body?
Why didn't they use cadaver dogs? The camera only went a few feet in, they should have used state of the art cameras fgs. It really is upsetting to read that they searched that drain and she was there the whole time.
