A terrible case is coming to justice. Finally.

In 1983, Jeanine Nicarico was taken from her Naperville IL home and raped, sodomized, beaten with a pipe. The final blow was so forceful that her head left an impression in frozen ground.

In 1985, 2 men, Rolando Cruz and Alejandro Hernandez, were sent to death row for 12 years, and then acquitted when DNA advancements showed they could not have committed the crime. A third accused, Steven Buckley, resulted in a hung jury.

This despite the prosecution having a confession by the real killer, Brian Dugan.

Seven overzealous LE officers and prosecutors had to endure their own trial in 1999, but of course were acquitted.

Currently in DuPage county, Brian Dugan is in the midst of a sentencing jury deliberation. Life or DP. Today the jurt decided he IS eligible for the death penalty. He is also serving 2 life sentences for killing another child and another woman. 3 murder victims, many rape victims.

Brian Dugan got the Death Penalty today.

Brian Dugan showed no humanity when he kicked in the front door of the Naperville home where a 10-year-old girl was alone, sick with the flu.

He showed no compassion when he abducted, sexually assaulted and bludgeoned Jeanine Nicarico, then dumped her brutalized body, as if she were trash.

In delivering today's death penalty verdict, a DuPage County jury showed the three-time killer no mercy. The panel agreed unanimously Dugan should be executed for the Feb. 25, 1983 crime. Members reached the verdict after deliberating for 11 hours. They were sequestered overnight.

Dugan, 53, will join 15 other condemned men on Illinois' death row, though no one has been executed in Illinois for more than a decade, and movements to lift a death penalty moratorium have gone nowhere.
