As I said, there are no discounts for sibs at most pvt schools, and that includes multiples.
I used to have my son in a Catholic school and the tuition was capped after 3 kids. Back then, 3 kids would be around $9K/ year and they didn't charge after that for anymore kids....even if you had 10 kids.
It all just depends on the school.

On the whole school tuition thing . . . let's say tuition runs $6,000/year. For 8 kids, that's $48,000. Even if the tuition is discounted a hefty 20% for 7 of those kids, that would still make tuition $39,600 - per year. Tuition is expensive any way you slice it, discount or not. And I don't fault them for sending the kids to private school. If money were no object, I believe more people would do it. In my area, when charter schools came into existence (operated like private schools but they receive tax money, so they're tuition-free), the kids came flying out of the public schools and into the charter schools.
IMO
Really? What pvt schools are those?
My youngest two attended pvt school from TK-8th grade and never once was there a sib discount. And neither was there such a thing at the pvt school my oldest kids attended in another city. In fact, I know of no pvt school in Chlt (Providence Day, Chlt Latin, Chlt Country Day, Charlotte Catholic) which offers a second (or subsequent) sib discount.
As far as health care? Are you kidding? What physician is going to provide discounted health care? :tongueside:
I live in Northern NJ, the policy, confirmed by a co worker this morning who has grandchildren in a private Catholic school, the first child pays full tuition, the second a reduced amount and the 3rd and any other pay no tuition.
As far as health care, my sister has 4 children, her physican only charges her for one office visit if she brings more than one child.

Thanks Mason, I thought I was the only one who ever heard of discounts for private school tuition.

So I wonder if maybe the free tuition after a certain number of kids is common in a Catholic private school, since both you and Mason mentioned it, as opposed to a private school such as Montessori???
The top private school in our area charges tuition of $13K year and would never dream of giving free tuition. In fact, they make a point of telling you the benefits of sacrificing for their top-notch private school education!

The only private school I'm familiar with is the one my grandchildren go to and I have no idea whether it's typical or not.
In their school there is no discount for multiple children. Tuition cost depends on where you are in the system (kindergarten is less than elementary school which is less than middle school which is less than high school). Total for three children, at the ages they are for this year, is $45,000, plus the cost of books (another $1,000) and you are expected to donate money to the school in addition to that.
In our case, it takes both sets of grandparents, along with the parents, to pay for tuition and books and those "voluntary" donations every year. Perhaps the Gosselins have some arrangement with their school regarding some sort of tuition break or scholarships (due to how many of them there are) but if they don't then having eight children in private school could be a very heavy burden.

I'm sure there are many schools that don't offer any kind of break on tuition, but don't forget the Gosselins were big news when the kids were born, lots of publicity, I would not be at all surprised if they received an offer for reduced/free tuition from Cara and Mady's school at that time. Obviously, their financial circumstances have changed and they could afford to send the kids there without a discount, but I doubt they would pass up such a generous offer.

I honestly don't know of one pvt school that doesn't give some kind of sibling discount.
The private school my children attended did not offer any discount for more than one child. Actually, I'm not aware of any private school in our area that does. Seems to vary from place to place.

This Link breaks down the accounts (2) only. I am surprised they were able to get the information from the bank.

Does not say School Tuition. Perhaps all the children lunches are paid in advance, school uniforms, maybe transportation? Just guessing.
I am sure Jon & Kate are upset, especially if Jon flew out to Pa, specifically to go to the hearing. I wonder what account is for travel expenses, Yikes. JMO

Many parochial and private schools give tuition breaks for families with multiple children, or children of alumni, and have scholarships available so that any family who wishes to send their child there can afford to do so.
This is, of course, not always the case.

Indeed. And that's on the very inexpensive end. The pre-K, K programs in this area are much more expensive than 6k/yr.
For instance:
Tuition for the 2009-2010 School Year
Transitional Kindergarten: $14,065
Kindergarten: $15,045
Grades 1-5: $17,675
Grades 6-12: $19,490
A $90 non-refundable fee should be submitted with an application. This will start the admissions process.
Tuition includes textbooks at all grades, as well as course and laboratory fees. At various grade levels additional fees are charged for such items as supplemental reading books, field trips, gym uniforms, and graphing calculators.
In addition to the payment terms outlined on the contract, PDS also offers the option to make monthly tuition payments by check or bank draft on a 10, 11, or 12 month basis through the TuitionPay Plan from Sallie Mae.

And the tuition is always around the same at all the pvt schools here (PDS, CCD, CL, CharCatholic, etc)

Whoa, my jaw just hit the floor! Private school tuitions aren't anywhere close to that around here....well maybe for some schools. But of the ones I've priced out (Catholic schools), most of them are under $3K a year with excellent programs.
St. Gabe's here is a good school, where a lot of my kids' friends attended.
There is a Capital Fee of like 1K per fam and then tuition is:

My jaw dropped when I saw the (relatively) inexpensive tuition at other private schools.
I pay 17,100 for this year and it goes up a bit each year. That doesn't include books which this year came to about 400.
The school however is worth every single cent. He is getting an excellent education, and hopefully will get some scholarships for college. If not, no matter. I put him in there to get the best available education and he is.

Do all the children go to the same school?
Are the children actually in private schools? I couldn't read the entire Lancaster name at Jon's photo op yesterday.
The agreement says school bills, rather than "tuition." TIA

I think they, Jon and Kate, are "home schooling" to save money for their cars and diamonds, and the breast implants, the apartment in NY, and the $1.2 million home in PA. Not to mention the $28,000 Jon paid for his girlfriends ring. JMO.

I would consider tuition to be a bill.
I don't know if reading the name on the bus would necessarily be indicative of what school the kids are going to. Some private or parochial schools have transportation agreements with public schools.

Of course tuition would be a school bill. Re: bus - Interesting as I am not familiar with public schools contracting their transportation services with private schools. You didn't answer any of my questions, but I learned something new.

I'm not sure what we're supposed to take from this. How does it relate to Kate plus 8?
in case you hadn't noticed, there were many posts above mine discussing the cost of tuition for private school.
Gee, I wonder why you single me out.

Any Catholic or Lutheran school that I ever taught at, required the family to be in church a certain number of times a year, or you started paying non-member fees that were hefty.

I know the 2 older girls go to Lancaster Country Day School. It is not a Catholic school, just a very expensive private school.

Where do the sextuplets go to school? I just assumed they went to the same school as the twins....
