Here's a little more information.

"No one on Facebook's gotten in contact with her," said Jame Hayes, father. "No text messages, no phone calls, just gone."

Hayes said he hasn't slept all week long, worrying about his missing daughter. Alyea recently enrolled in a nearby junior college and had rented an apartment near downtown Overland Park. She shares the apartment with her ex-boyfriend's sister, and according to police the ex-boyfriend, James Beebe, has a history of violence.

I hope Keighly's okay. The police say they've dropped Beebe from their suspect list. Another ex-boyfriend is mentioned. Or, it could be like Jennifer Kesse, and so many others, just being in the wrong place at the wrong time...

Sunday afternoon, Overland Park police spokesman Jim Weaver said the department is now seeking Merritt who could be related to Keighley’s disappearance. He has had addresses in Kansas City, Kan., Baldwin, Kan., Grandview, Mo., and Olathe. Kan.

Merritt is 5 foot 11, 155 pounds, and has brown eyes and brown hair.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the rapes at K-State and KU? Lawrence, KS (where KU is) is only about 45 minutes from Overland Park.

I was checking to see if Keighley was listed on the National Center for Missing Adults website. She isn't, but a Steven G. Alyea from Kansas City, MO is. He went missing in 1992. Kansas City isn't that far from Overland Park. I wonder if they are related?

This is not looking at all. Some facts/questions:

1) The car was found near a dumpster
2) She goes missing from her home, last seen around midnight - Did she disappear overnight?
3) Just a week prior to her disappearance she was involved in a domestic violence incident.
4) The ex-bfs Sean Merritt and James Beebe and a third man (?) were questioned and released.
5) One of the exes was found only because his car broke down - was he aware LE were looking to speak to him and was trying to get away? Why mention how they found him otherwise?..
6) By whom was she seen last, he ex's sister, her roommate? What what she doing?
7) Anything else is missing (her purse, wallet, clothes, anything)? I am assuming her cell phone is missing, since they were checking on it.

Missing Woman's car found abandoned at 62nd and Foster
By Justin Kendall in NewsMon., Oct. 5 2009 @ 8:03AM
Keighley Ann Alyea
Overland Park police have found missing teen Keighley Ann Alyea's car.

Officers found Alyea's 1993 Green Mazda 626 abandoned at 62nd and Foster in Mission, Kansas. The car was towed so evidence can be processed.

Alyea, 18, disappeared Tuesday, and she is being considered "a missing/possibly endangered person."
Alyea is described as 5-feet-1-inches tall, 113 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

On Sunday, Overland Park police put out a notice that they wanted to talk to 22-year-old Sean M. Merritt. The Kansas City Star reports that police spoke to Merritt on Sunday, but no details were given about the outcome of the interview.

KCTV 5 reports that police have already questioned two other men -- Jaymes Beebe and Dustin Hilt -- and "cleared" them. KCTV reports that Beebe had previously been "involved in a domestic violence situation with Alyea."

If you have any information about Alyea's disappearance, call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477 or the Overland Park Police at 913-895-6300.

Bolding mine.

All the pics of her are when she's blonde. That could make a big difference in whether anyone will recognize her or not. I wonder if they have any pics with black hair that the family and LE could circulate.

I hope she surfaces. Sad and scary to think how easily people disappear in this world.

You know how much just the color of hair can change things? I hope it was a misprint, b/c right now, concerned citizens are looking for a blonde.

New information tonight on Nancy Grace about the case. Keighley had taken in a friend who was having a serious dispute with her brother, who also happened to be Keighley's ex-boyfriend. There was a physical altercation between the two (the friend and the brother) and when the brother took off that's when Keighley's car was damaged. I'm not sure when this took place though.

Also, Keighley's father was supposed to take calls live but he was called away to go to the police station, Mike Brooks said they didn"t know why.

Oh how horrible. I was afraid of this when her father cancelled his appearance on NG right before he was due to be on because he was called to the police station. What a tragic outcome, but at least it seems that they know who is responsible and her family will not have the agony of the unknown and decades of waiting for justice that may never come.

One of the arrested men, Dustin Hilt was an ex-boyfriend of hers. In one of the articles posted above, you can see a picture of her that shows that she has a tattoo with the name "Dustin" on her shoulder. This seems like a "If I can't have her, no one will" type of murder. Just horrible.

It's also rather unusual that others were arrested. Given where the body was, I would guess that one of them talked and gave Dustin up. What their level of involvement truly was remains to be seen. Any press conferences coming up?

What's interesting is Hilt was cleared (per article posted above) before the body was found and now he's being charged with her murder.

What about the Merritt guy? Was he questioned and released? I wonder if he's the one who told LE?

"An autopsy is scheduled for today at the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office reported today. They are working with Overland Park police, they said.

Three men arrested by police Monday are in jail awaiting formal charges in Johnson County, police said.

Friends and family said that Alyea had dated one of the men for about two years. They broke up sometime last year, said friend Emily Gammill.

Gammill said the two broke up because “he just wasn’t a good guy.” But she declined to say more about his troubled past.

Gammill said that the ex-boyfriend didn’t have a place to live.

Alyea had a tattoo on her shoulder that was the first name of the former boyfriend.

Alyea’s uncle, Eddie Frentrop, said of the ex-boyfriend, “He’s got her name tattooed on him, too,” but the two broke up long ago."

It's horrible what happened to this girl, but she had made some really bad choices in her life that led up to all this. Her mom said today "...I know she has a past, but I'm hoping everyone looks past that..." Her life was a case study in bad decisions starting with her mom. She got pregnant with Keighley when she was unmarried and 16. As a matter of fact, her twin sister also got pregnant when she was unwed and 16. Both girls had to give the babies to relatives to raise. Keighley was raised by her grandparents and was allowed to run wild. She had serious behavior issues at school, barely graduated, and was sent to juvy jail at the age of 15 for six months. She dated older men, was accused of doing drugs from a very young age, drank alcohol, and her parents couldn't control her. Again, I'm not saying she deserved what happened to her, but she is exactly why I warn my kids about the people they chose as friends and the activities they chose to involve themselves in....it does matter and can cause harm. It did in this case.

Thank you! So, the three charges/counts for Mattox are:

1) 1st degree murder
2) aggravated kidnapping
3) aggravated robbery

I am assuming robbery wasn't the motive (money, car and medication stolen; car left in a parking lot). Is it known if he is the ex BF with whose sister she was living? She might have taken Dustin's sister side as they had a dispute, and it escalated from there?..

The confrontation was between Jaymes Beebe and his sister Jessika, nothing to do with the three who have been arrested. Strange timing for such unrelated events...

~snipped

"Friends told FOX4KC.com that Hilt had dated Alyea for a couple of years and they were not surprised he had been named a suspect.

Both had tattoos of each other's names on their bodies, but the couple's relationship was tumultuous, the friends said.

"I don't know how many times she's called me because Dustin had hit her, or her and Dustin had gotten into a huge argument and it got a little confrontational," ex-boyfriend Jaymes Beebe told the station. "It was not a good relationship."

Beebe said Hilt had "gotten her hooked on drugs really bad," and she "got clean when she stopped talking to him."

Police had been concerned that Alyea was in danger after she intervened on Sept. 28 in a violent argument between Beebe and his sister, Jessika.

Jessika Beebe had slept at Alyea's house after the fight — but when Jessika woke up the next morning, Alyea was gone, the murdered teen's mother Kelley Bastel told FOX4KC.com.

Jaymes Beebe has been cleared of any wrongdoing after police questioned him over the weekend, the station reported. Mattox, Calbeck and Hilt were then arrested Monday night.

Alyea's family has established a memorial fund in her name. Donations can be made at any Commerce Bank."

I'd say that Calbeck was the one who talked because if you look at the arrest times, he was arrested at `15:40, Mattox was arrested at 19:05 and Hilt was arrested at 22:00.

Where I was raised, we never speak ill of the dead. It's just who we are.

You didn't deserve this, Keighley, irregardless of the choices you made in your short life.

My prayers are with her family.

This is so true! No matter what anyone has ever done...... no one deserves anything like this!

The poster didn't say she deserved it. As a matter of fact, he/she said quite the opposite. I don't think anyone here believes that regardless of the choices you make, you deserve to be brutally murdered.

What I got from the poster is a poignant message for young kids. Make the right choices. Be careful who you choose as friends. Be vigilant. If you see danger, run, get help. Don't stay with someone because you think they're cool. If he beats you and treats you like dirt, get help. You don't deserve to be treated that way.

If only we could turn back time for Keighley. Sadly, it's too late but I pray some other girl will learn from this horrible tragedy.

I agree. I do pray that young people realize the danger they may be in when they associate with a violent, drug using person. The problem is that many don't and no matter what you say, they will not listen. It breaks my heart, but what is one to do? You can't force then to do anything if they are over 18. They think you are being overly cautious or silly. Even when tragic events occur locally, they just shrug it off and say that wouldn't happen to them.

I know this girls family must be devastated. I cannot imagine the pain of losing such a young, beautiful girl. I hope that finding her, even in this condition, brings some comfort from wondering where she is. I'm not sure which is worse; to know she's gone or to always wonder.

I do agree with all of you regarding the choices we make, and how they might or do affect us later in life. However, we don't even know what happened in this case, and what the motive was, so I personally don't want to assume it had anything to do with the people she knew or choices she had made. If he was a jealous ex BF and that was the motive - that can happen with the nicest and most normal people, regardless of their background. JMO

omsk, I don't care what the motive is. Whether he was high on drugs, jealous, full moon or having a bad day. Keighley was murdered and from what we've read so far (including the article you just posted) she got involved with the wrong crowd, doing drugs and in an abusive relationship. Not good. I hope girls out there will read this. Run. Get help before it's too late.

I'm not giving Hilt a free pass. He could've been the nicest guy on earth (which I highly doubt), he is charged with her murder.

I don't have daughters but I tell my sons if they ever, ever hit a girl, I would call the cops myself.

I absolutely agree - the motive doesn't matter! Ever. However, I was just saying that she might have done drugs at some point, or gone out/hung out with the wrong boy, but a lot of teenagers do it just because they are young and they experiment and hang out with different people. Kids should always be careful or aware of their surroundings and friends, people they spend time with - my problem here was that I dont' think she was into doing "bad" things any more than other "regular" teenagers when they go through such stages. I guess my point was that this could have happened regardless of who she hang out with or if she took drugs, people snap and do horrible things, or are just "bad" people, as we all know too well

More About the Keighley Alyea Case (http://blogs.kansascity.com/crime_scene/2009/10/more-about-the-keighley-alyea-case-.html)

"Prosecutors say that Alyea was lured over to go see Hilt at 1:30 in the morning, thanks to an urgent text message. The two had dated for a few years, but friends and family say it was an abusive relationship and involved drugs. They say Alyea had broken things off and gotten clean, but others say the two still had some contact."

Family Reveals Details in Keighley's Murder (http://www.nbcactionnews.com/news/local/story/Family-Reveals-Details-in-Keighleys-Murder/x8S9G8LpMEaIEBVB1ihU9Q.cspx)

"They said her killers attacked Alyea twice to make sure she died.

“You can’t really express emotions for something that horrible,” said William Frentrop, Alyea’s uncle. “But, they’re straight animals.”

Frentrop is outraged over the murder of his niece and the suspects accused of committing the crime.

“As far as I know, they did it because they didn’t like her,” Frentrop said.

Police told the family Alyea’s killers attacked her last Wednesday in Overland Park. They said the suspects drove the girl to rural Cass County to dump her body.

“Somewhere along the drive out east of Harrisonville, she regained consciousness and at that time, they had the option to do the right thing and they chose to finish killing her,” Frentrop said."

Sounds like there might've been a confession from one of the suspects, perhaps.

It does sound like a confession, only someone who was there could have known certain details. How absolutely horrible - they murdered her because one of them was mad at her, and they didn't like her??? Why now? What triggered it (not that it matters, or would change anything)?.. Just awful

What I said is true..it's just hard for some people to accept. What happened to this girl wasn't her fault BUT she put herself in situations that resulted in her own death. The ex-boyfriend abused her and she kept going back to him...she did illegal drugs with him...she dropped out of school....she broke the law....all of these things were her choice and there are consequences to all choices. Kids need to read these stories and learn from them. It's a typical story of the kid of a teenage mom who gave her up at birth....it really started there.

You're entitled to your opinion, but the people who made the choice to kill a young girl are the ones who need to be thinking of their decisions. This girl could have been anyone... she could have been a straight A student, done everything right, come from the right home (is there a definition of that???) and still been a victim.... what's the reasoning then??? Oh yeah, it's the people who hold no value for human life that make the BAD decisions.

There is always a "but" when someone is trying to lay blame where it doesn't belong.

The ex-boyfriend abused her and she kept going back to him...

To die for being forgiving is a bit much. IMO

she did illegal drugs with him...she dropped out of school....she broke the law....

Millions do on a daily basis.

all of these things were her choice and there are consequences to all choices.

Indeed.... you are right here.

Kids need to read these stories and learn from them.

Funny thing is you can't learn someone else's lessons.

Ah.. that we could.

It's a typical story of the kid of a teenage mom who gave her up at birth....it really started there.

It really started when a few creeps decided murder was an acceptable option when they found someone they didn't like.

Let's lay the blame for this where it belongs could we?
Firmly.. at the feet of her murderers.

Not her mama.

This case made me think of Kara Kopetsky missing from Belton, MO.
One of the articles I read said that one of the accused has ties to Belton, and also the abusive teen relationship. My prayers are going out to Kara and her family as well today. (Sorry for hijacking Keighley's thread to post that here.)

so Kelsey Smith, 18, who chose to shop at Target in OP KS that fateful night in 2007 to purchase a birthday present for her boyfriend- her consequence for that shopping decision was to be kidnapped, raped and murdered by then 26 year old Edwin Hall, a complete stranger to her, what can potential victims learn by that?

Keighley's birth mother's lack of being the custodial caregiver didn't cause Keighley to be a victim. I think if would be wise if the community looked at what is happening with parents that have sons that turn out to be murderers.

In this case, there are three sets of parents out there that have three sons involved in the murder of this young woman.

ITA Postie. I'm so sick of the veiled insinuations every time a woman is killed that if she hadn't of done x, y or z this wouldn't have happened. I know people don't say it outright, but it's obvious the inference.

I agree it's time parents parented their sons properly and taught them that violence toward a woman is never acceptable.

I find it odd that almost always on these threads, a first time poster will appear and claim to know a bunch of info that they are unable to document.

The Beason murder thread has a few of these types. They are either "in the area," " a relative of a cousin's in law" or "the daughter of the accused."

In my mind, if I was really close to the case the last place I would be is a nation wide gossip board.

My sympathies to Keighley's family. Her pictures are lovely. I pray the men that did this to her get what they deserve.

But, I do believe that there is some lesson that we can learn or teach in some of them.

Inviting bad people, drugs, etc into your life is a dangerous decision.

It's unfortunate that some kids have to learn this lesson with their life.

In 2006 she was convicted of battery and disorderly conduct and they removed her from home. Any idea who she assaulted ? Could that have anything to do with motive ?
Regardless of her past she didn't deserve to die, but bad things can happen when we associate with bad people.
