View Full Version : The 2nd Amendment
Today, the United States Supreme Court agreed to hear a case in which the question presented is thus:
QP:

Petition for Certiorari:

The Heller case last year only restricted the federal government's intervention, as DC is a federal district.
This will indeed be one of the most important decisions handed down since 1789. On the progeny of Heller, it is assured the right to an individual to bear arms will become a Federal Constitutional right.

I am for "the rights to bear arms". It don't matter if we ban guns, if a criminal wants a gun, the criminal is going to find a way to get a gun.
Personally, I like to feel protected at home when I'm alone, when my boyfriend is deer hunting for the week-end or out of town, etc.. I live in a good neighborhood but you never know what can happen, and if I'm home alone and someone breaks in and tries to attack me, I have a gun to shoot them with and I'll do it.
My boyfriend has his CCW and we take a gun when we go camping, just incase a bear or intruder should come into camp. Just beucase you never know.
We have a couple hand guns at home and the only time we ever shoot them is at the gun range. The others are shotguns/rifles for deer hunting.
Just the other day in the Detroit News, a lady was walking down the street and was attack by 2 guys and they tried to steal her purse. Little did they know she had a CCW and was carrying and she shot both guys and one died, the other is in the hospital. He got what he had coming if you ask me.

Love you "BUG"..but I have to agree with this poster. AKs..yep..have to be severely regulated..or totally outlawyed but by miliary..or Obama's NEW Civil Militia? Handguns and rifles and shotguns..if they want to Regulate them ALL..then do so. I have no problem with that..background check..no criminal record..no mental instability. BUT..BUT..years ago...my family hunted..rifles and shotguns..for FOOD..not for Sport..and..let me tell you...when some Drunks came into our driveway..all they needed to hear was that "chuck"..we'd have never shot anyone unless they were trying to enter the house and hurt one of us (legal..you know...but if they take these gun laws to the extreme..if one protects their own home and family with a gun...that they "can't have"..then those laws go down the tubes too)..but it sent them flying.

I pretty much am against the "right to bear arms" and feel that it does not apply to Americans of today. I think it needs to be ammended. No ak 47's or automatics are needed, on our streets in our lives our towns.
Get rid of them ALL like China did.
I am fully against, the "right to bear arms". People kill people, guns do not.
Bug:w00t: Very appropriate that you used China as a model.
Yeah, the people there are so very free to speak their mind.

Actually, bullets kill people.
Our right to bear arms is in direct relation to our right to protect ourselves from govt tyranny, not to shoot our fellow man.
I carry a handgun because my shotgun won't fit in my purse.
You go sister!

I totally don't support the right to bear arms... I think it's outdated and needs to evolve.

AK's are TOO powerful, a far cry from the ancient Matchlock's.
When the 1789 Congress signed the Bill of Rights to propose to the states, they had NO idea of the advancement of science, period. If you would have told James Madison some day Man will walk on the Moon, he may have had you locked up for mental evaluation, ha!!
Some states permit "open carry", no permit, you can just walk down the street with a gun on your side in a holster.
Under the progeny of Heller, the SC will indeed decide it is an individual right under the 2nd AM, although Heller is not a binding decision under stare decisis, the considered dictum, if you will, is a given.

The case at bar, notwithstanding, is somewhat moot, as most, if not all states, already have right to bear provisions in thier Constitution's.

HAHA..LOVE IT! And, you're right...it's the bullets..and/or the stab wounds. Sure...bullets are "quicker" and can be propelled from a distance..but if someone Invades my home with a gun, I don't think my steak knife is going to do too much good to protect my family and myself.

Maybe you are lucky enough to live in an area where police response time is less than 3 minutes. And you can hope it would take a home intruder 5 minutes to gain access to your home.
For those who know that their response time is likely to be in the 15 to 30 minute range, being a responsible gun owner who has taken a safety class it should remain their right to defend themselves and their loved ones.

In Beason Ill. a family was just slaughtered. No guns used. This is just one example because it is recent. It is being discussed in the current crimes forum.
The criminals don't follow rules or laws. They will still get them and use them no matter how many laws are on the books.

I have my pistol in my fanny pack and my shotgun in my bedroom. Those are the ones for protection. I have hunting rifles too.
