I can't imagine any committee picking Obama's Chi-town, the murder capital of the U.S., as a site for the Olympics. If Obama had any concern for the safety of the Olympians and their fans he would take Chicago off the list for consideration.

IMO this violence and murder rate and the gang problem need tax payer funds NOT the Olympics.

What is MORE important here? Human life for bragging the US has the Olympics AGAIN. We have had it EIGHT Times..

Be fair and allow the favorite, Rio to have it-- no country in South America has ever hosted an Olympics. Obama sould step back for that reason alone-- fairness IMO.

Buckbo .... Using your rationale, America would never have the Olympics again. Is there ANY major city in this Country where it would be feasible to hold the Olympics, where murders have NOT been committed ??

You do realize having a murder committed in your city as opposed to being the murder Capitol of the US as Chicago is-- is two different things right?

Big difference between the vast majority of U.S. cities and Chicago, would being the murder capitol of the U.S. give you a clue as to the difference? :scared:

Well, it really isn't a "BIG difference" Buckbo. There have been 426 murders in Chicago this year, compared to 417 in New York. It's not even the end of the year yet .... perhaps New York can catch up .

I have a question, do you think it is fair for Obama to 'swoop in' and maybe take the games from South America? The US has had it 8 times. Never once have the games been hosted in South America. Rio was the favorite until Obama announced his arrival.

IaN .... yes I DO see the difference. As I pointed out to Buckbo, there is not MUCH difference between Chicago and New York.

If one of the criteria for holding special events, such as the Olympics, in ANY city, is to determine how many murders have been committed .... then I doubt New York would host much of anything either.

IaN .... I really don't think of him as "swooping in". I believe the games WILL be held in Rio. I'm not sure that will change because of the President's influence. However, to try to answer your question. I see nothing wrong with him "supporting" the U.S. as a place for the Games to be held.

There are more than 8 million people in New York, compared to slightly under 3 million in Chicago, which makes the number of murders in Chicago even more startling a number.

I guess I see it differently. Obama has a clout if you will and he knows it. The reason he is going to pull for it to be in Chicago. I feel it is unfair for him to show up when it was virtually in the bag so to speak for Rio. I read an article this morning while at work and it said that his arrival may away the IOC.

I just think the US should take a step back and allow fairness. I mean isn't Obama all about the "little guy'? And I count them as "little" since SA has never won it before.

And to be even more honest Chicago has a few more important things to spend taxpayer money on. Have you ever been? Have you dared to walk into some Chicago neighborhoods at night? Not to mention the police force needs overhauling. Let Rio have it-- work on the issues that really need the money.

Well other world leaders there, too. And I hope the U.S. gets it. Bids were put in a long time ago and the finalist announced last year.... U.S. won a bid. It'll be a great economic boom to the U.S. state, City and entire region. Millions of jobs started immediately, to prepare.

I hope we, the U.S gets it. But wait if we don't, some will blame Obama for going, and if he didn't go, and others did, and we lost, he'd get blamed, too. Now if we get it, what will be the complaint? Cause we know it's coming.
