New York state police say the daughter of slain newspaper heiress Anne Scripps Douglas is believed to have jumped to her death from the same bridge as her stepfather after he killed her mother.

Police are searching the Hudson River near the Tappan Zee bridge in Tarrytown for the body of Anne Morell Petrillo, and confirmed Friday her death is believed to be a suicide.

She apparently got out of her car on the span Thursday evening, then jumped to her death. A note was found.

Dear heaven. The same bridge. I believe Lifetime ran the movie about her mother's murder on Tuesday. I saw that movie previously. It was chilling.

IIRC The name of the movie IS "Our Mother's Murder" or something like that.

It cannot have been easy to have that movie played over and over. However, the daughter's had some role in the production. Maybe a book? That happens when you write the book and allow the movie. It gets played over and over and over. The family is very wealthy, so it was not a matter of needing the $$$.

Correct, that's the name. I think it originally was called Daughters and the name was changed. I think the daughters wanted to tell their story to shed light on domestic violence and the abuse of women because that was the core story. Even Anne's wealth couldn't protect her from domestic violence. I'm sure she had a restraining order but it didn't help her.

Police say they believe they've recovered the body of a woman whose suicidal jump from a suburban New York City bridge echoed her stepfather's plunge from it 15 years ago after a grisly family murder.

State Police Sgt. Todd Parent says the body found Sunday afternoon in the Hudson River is believed to be that of Anne Morell Petrillo.

Poor soul. There was an article that said she was struggling with alcoholism and that she was broke, having gone through all of her trust fund money and that she suffered from suicidal thoughts. Her son was only 13 years old according to this article. I thought the son was older. What a tragedy.

I haven't read anything about the state of her marriage. I wonder if she was still married. The Scripps family is one of enormous wealth, it's hard to imagine going through that much $$ in one short lifetime. Of course, she may have been heavily invested in things that have lost value as of late...it's very sad that she is gone now and her son will have to inherit the continued legacy of premature, violent death.

I'm not criticizing this woman, don't get me wrong. There have been times in my life that if Death had knocked on my door, I would have run to him and jumped up into his open arms. But I managed to hang in there, but I would never assume that my journey has been more difficult than someone else's. I've no idea what she was facing or what kind of demons would haunt your soul when your mother was abused and then brutally murdered.

For Annie and those who love her:

Interestingly, the article I read said that Anne Scripps Douglas left an estate of 1.3 million. Divided among three daughters and possibly taxed it doesn't amount to a mega fortune at all. I thought there would be a lot more money there, a lot more. It said that aAne Morell's condo was relatively modest and had been sitting on the market for some time. Some bad investments or an unthrifty lifestyle would have decimated her share of the fortune quite quickly IMO. :glare:

You're right, 1.3 mil wouldn't go far after splitting it 3 ways and taxing it. That does seem like a meager amount given the deep pockets of the Scripps family.
