So sad that his mom didn't live to see this.

I really hope he is successful this time.

I'm sorry to say that I don't hold out much hope for him. He's an out and out junkie.

Mandated treatment only succeeds about 30% of the time and he's a poor candidate to begin with.

Redmond will be unwilling or unable to abstain from drug use.

vera, I know what you're saying is true. I, however, am hoping that the loss of his mom and not being able to be with her as she was dying will be the motivation he needs to be one of the 30%.

Veracruz,
I know that the facts you cite are an unfortunate truth and I also do not think his father is a positive influence on him. However, there is always hope and he has an Angel watching out for him now. May he find the strength and wisdom to beat this, once and for all.

His dad also has had minimal contact with him since he has been incarcerated and only saw him when Redmond went to see his mother... he has never been to see him while he was in jail, never went to any of his court hearings.. and they are basically estranged.. which might be a good thing.

I hope Redmond will keep in his mind the promise made to his mother and maybe his not being able to be with her as she passed will be the one thing that makes him realize he needs to make some severe changes in his life.. I hope he does it. I hope he surrounds himself with people that care about him and will enable him to get his life straightened out .. at least for his mother's memory.. and for him also.. if that means excluding his father from his life.. so be it..

He's got a long road ahead of him, he's not out yet.. he's off to yet another rehab center.. hopefully this time it works for him.. let's hope so for Farrah's memory.

I have to disagree...I was a " out and out junkie"..(as you put it).I will have 13 years clean soon...there is ALWAYS hope!
I wonder if you are a subtance abuse specialist? Since you stated Redmond will be unwilling or unable to abstain from drugs?
I am a Drug Counselor..There is ALWAYS hope...I am living proof...

My Thoughts and Prayers are with Redmond....

Congrats Just. It's stories like yours that give me hope for Redmond. I'm glad he's going to inpatient rehab. and I'm really praying he's one of the ones who make it.

Congratulations and I wish you continued success in your fight. I have a brother with (approx) 15 years clean and another with just a few months clean. I am sure it is a constant battle but one that can be won. I pray Redmond wins his.

Congratulations. That's wonderful to hear.

Of course there's always hope - but my impression of Redmond is that he will not succeed in treatment at this time.

I certainly wish Redmond the best in his attempt to come clean. So much will depend on what type of friends he has and if he will surround himself with people who do not use drugs. He has to want to be clean more than he wants the high to be successful.Hopefully most of the physical withdrawal is over and now comes the mental determination. He has to want one thing more than the other.I have been on line with people who have traded narcotic addictions for Tramadol addictions and it is a devil to shake. The drug is apparently available in Mexico over the counter and is not even considered a narcotic in Canada and most states altho it works on opiate receptors which makes it a narcotic in my books. The big T is a devil in disguise because it is prescribed by innocent doctors thinking they have a valid substitute for a narcotic and is widely available on the internet.

There's hope for a lot of people, but I think (imo) Redmond lacked guidance as a child and was living the Hollywood lifestyle with two unmarried, bickering parents and that's all he knew/knows. I don't blame him personally.
I remember reading an article in which Farrah stated, Red was troubled because a lot of his friends' parents labeled her a 'street actress'. This was many years ago when he was about 11 or 12, she said it bothered him immensely. This is what I mean by the Hollywood stigma and the escapism. What is a "street actress"? I've never heard that term. I googled the phrase and didn't find an answer
