View Full Version : Toddlers and Tiaras
Anyone else watching this show? I am getting an education. I think the beauty pagent stuff could be fun but dressing these kids up with hair pieces, make up, false eylashes, etc. Whats the point? I really don't like the bumping and grinding the mothers have taught these kids and think it highly inappropriate for under 18s. As far as I know even the Ms Universe, Ms USA and Ms America contenstants don't engage in this stuff. What do others think about this genre? Some of these kids look like 7 going on 39, in my opinion.

I watch this show, ABC, and I am disgusted. They get those kids up at the crack of dawn, make them get manicures/pedicures, spray tans they hate, give them pixie-sticks for sugar rush, make them wear wigs and false eyelashes and teeh--the whole thing is disgusting.
Not to mention the dancing and movements they teach those poor little girls.
Finally, the expense of such a thing is just ridiculous. For the dresses, the travelling, the whole shebang. Put in into those children's education or some fun vacations.

I have watched it several times when there was absolutely nothing else on I was interested in. I think all of it is more to satisfy the moms rather than the children. The moms all say the children want to do it but I am just not believing that. I think most of the children are being pushed way beyond their age in the dance & costumes.
I think there is little doubt that the thing is for most of the mothers. Nothing like watching the Mom's do the "routine" with the kids. The Dad's are a hoot. Really bad.:scared:

WH--the moms slip and say "my routine," when they mean the child's routine.
And they keep calling it "the stage" when it's a platform and the only audience are other parents wanting to see only their child.
I think it's awful for a child, on every level. And when they crown some girl with "prettiest face" or "prettiest eyes" and the others cry, it just make me angry.

My husband and I were on a few day's vacation a few yrs ago and going toward the lobby of our hotel we saw a ballroom having one of these things.
We sat in the back of the room for a while, is absolute shock. The only sounds you can hear are the moms singing their routines and kids crying and wailing. Unbelievable.

I also saw the episode with the twin girls. Hello....does the mother think the one with the " larger nose" won't see this one day?? It's been on television for pete's sake.

OMG! I am embarrassed to admit I record this show on my DVR. I have not missed a single episode yet. It's like watching a train wreak.
On a recent show, A mom had twin girls competing against each other, it was so blatantly obvious the mom prefered her pageant winning, "cuter" twin. She was an out of control brat. The other, "not as cute" with "a bigger nose" to quote mom...was sweet as could be. My heart just broke for her watching her mother favors the other.
I think much of it boarders on child abuse. Especially the above mom.
That was shameful, wasn't it? I have taped them all, as well, btw. That episode, in particular, was disgusting.
And, yes, it is abusive. You are right about that.

the episode a few weeks ago where the little girl said if she didn't win she was going to slap the winner and take her money~~~paraphased can't remember the exact words, and then the Mother bribing the little girl with the sun glasses
this show is over the top
I watched the entire Marathon yesterday and was intriqued with the goings on.
IMO these pageants are deplorable. They put on hairpieces, false eyelashes, whatever the heck they call those fake teeth pieces, too much makeup, etc. The natural beauty of a child is lost. I can't see a single positive thing - except for the parental satisfaction - that these contests provide and teach a child. Instead, how about sports, singing, musical instruments that are age appropriate.

That was the same mother and little girl. What a horrible thing to teach one's child, to be a bad sport. When she lost, the little girl had a fit and the mom and she left early.
There is another series called Little Miss Perfect, which is even more horrific.
I have seen the show a few times and as a result do not hate it as much as I used to hate it. I am relieved that some of the parents do put it into perspective and praise the child even when she doesn't win, but I think there is much potential for harm of the kids.
What I think it HORRIBLE is teaching the children to act sexual in their walk, dance and facial expressions. When a child goes over the top with the sexy stuff, I hoped the judges would penalize them and not let them win or even call it to the attention of the parents, but no, they reward it. Those are the girls who win!!! It is inexcusable!
I think those mothers see the child as an extention of themself, so hip shaking and naugty dancing seems just fine. It just isn't right IMO.

I have watched a few episodes and ITA with most of the remarks here...what I find intriguing is that most of the moms and grandmas who are dressing their little girls up like 30-year-old women are unattractive! Can we say "living vicariously through our children?"
Some of the dads are really into it as well, which is kind of endearing and yet all kinds of creepy.

OMG! I DVR'd all of those too! Are they disgusting or what? When does the new season start?:blushing:
snipped.
Aren't they the very worst???? And the judges. UGH. The very worst is when the guy who is in charge of Little Miss Perfect sings to the girls.
The whole thing is just wrong.

I was channel surfing the other day and caught a few minutes of this show. I got disgusted and changed the channel when a frumpy over weight woman said "I'm a pagent mom. That makes me no worse than a welfare mom."
Where on earth does anyone ever come up with carp like that?

I saw that, Poppy. Just disgusting. That was the mother whose daughter said she wanted to rip the winner's heads off and take their trophies and smash them.

Yeah, Roux..I'm with you! I can't watch/view these things (probably a good thing), but can only imagine what they are like, from what I'm reading here. I agree..sports, singing, music, dance, art, learning to cook/bake, tie knots (old girl and boy scout "stuff") and competing in a healthy way..to learn things more valuable (moo), and yes, age appropriate.

Absolutely!!!!!
Despite everything that I dislike about the show, there was one thing that cracked me up. It was either this show or Little Miss Perfect. They are almost identical. There was this cute little girl with brown hair who wanted to win money in order to buy a COW. All she kept saying was "I want a COW!" It was so funny. I couldn't figure out why she wanted a cow. She did win and she was soooo excited. She yelled, "Now I get to buy my COW!"
You had to see it. LOL.

How about the little four year old that spent like 5 hours at the day spa? Hair, nails, facials, tanning, massage.....etc.......Her parents convinced her she was a princess......eyeroll.......
That was just horrific. Facials and massage on a little 4 yr old. And having fake nails ruining their nail beds.
The whole thing is disgusting.
The parents pay huge fees to enter these "pageants" and pay astronomical amounts for clothes, travel, those glamour shots, tanning, make-up, hair, wigs, teeth, etc. It's a huge business for those ppl who run the things.

Ah yes...her mother set such a fantastic example when she threw the crown in the parking lot and drove over it.....barf.........
The things that came out of that particular mother's mouth were shocking and I got the distinct feeling she was holding back because of the film crew. Can you imagine what she's like when they cameras aren't there? That mother scared me.
She scared me, too. Totally scared me.

The Little Beauties are coming to town! They’re gorgeous, they’re talented, they’re six-years old and with the helping hand of eager moms, determined pageant coaches, fabulous spray tan artists and “flipper” (fake teeth) makers, not to mention a couple of Pixie Sticks for energy, these girls are taking the stage at pageants all over the Southeast U.S for the chance to win cash prizes and crowns!
Little Beauties: Ultimate Kiddie Queen Showdown is a one-hour documentary special that will take a light-hearted look into the wonderful world of children’s beauty pageants through the eyes of four, precocious six-year old girls.

They do a lot of this thing all over. IMO, the mothers in the Southeast just seem pushier. I could never put my daughter through what those little girls go through.

I saw one that was a "natural" one. At least on that one the girls didn't do all of the make up and stuff. Still I think putting the focus on looks at that age is a huge mistake. Truly horrible with the makeup, wigs, flippers, etc.

I think it puts into their minds at a very early age that they are of no use at anything but being a pretty little plaything. It's sad, but some mothers still view their daughters as useless, unless they are pretty enough to marry the "right" man.

Uggg. I would have thought after the Jon Bennet Ramsey story that this would have stopped.

I knew a woman once who thought that girls were only good for finding a man to marry and give him sons to carry on his family name. She had 3 daughters and one son.
She treated her daughters like some of those pagent moms treat their daughters.
