:seeya: Frankie, thanks for starting today's thread and hello to you, too, panache and posters who will be joining the discussion today. There are so many conflicting media reports saying the search IS related to Haleigh, then it IS NOT related to Haleigh. Hopefully today, some clarification by LE will be forthcoming.

I found Ronald's comment to the reporter interesting (although we didn't hear it come from him). He said that LE wouldn't be contacting him first necessarily.
I take that to mean that the first person they would go to is the perp and then after the suspect is taken in, they will then call Ronald. For obvious reasons, in my opinion.

From day one, I have always thought that Haleigh was put in water. There just wasn't enough time that night for anyone to do any major concealment. Water was the easy way out.
I'm wondering if the evidence found could be a cinder block. It has to be something substaincial that would survive 7 mos of being submerged.

I have wondered more than once that Misti was out and had the door propped open and Haleigh woke up and went looking for Misti and accidentally fell in that river in the dark. She's like a lot of vindictive people in that way. She has to "one up" the situation by continuing to point at other people and away from herself.
She escalated this when she got the permanent RO. An escalation which I believe will prove to be her un-doing.
(Of course, I believe that she was the one who told LE about Mr. Martin and the stolen gun. The timing of these events - the fight, the TRO, the rodent in the mailbox, the stolen/returned gun, the permanent RO, the arrest of Tommy on the month old gun theft/return - all escalating steps that should not go unnoticed. And timing, I believe, is everything. IMO.)

Whoever told them told them between 8/20 and 8/25 (when LE first went to Mr. Martin).
I don't think it was Chelsea. As far as I know, she had no axe to grind with Tommy.
Misty, on the other hand, needed something to help make her Temporary RO a permanent one. What better way than to say Tommy had a stolen gun and she was afraid he would use that gun on her? Especially since not being in possession of firearms was part of the permanent RO? Is that standard procedure with a restraining order with no felony convictions?

Approx 35 miles by car. It's across the St John's river so you either go by boat or car but from the google map last night there is land between the river and the pond so a boat won't get someone right there.

*If* they are dredging the pond looking for Haleigh's remains....
I've been trying to study decomposition of remains found in water --
and I know this is a morbid topic but if Haleigh was simply disposed of in the pond, she would have floated to the top.
However, if she was weighted down, that may be why it's necessary to dredge the pond.
I haven't found a lot of studies online but I'm curious what the rate of decomp would be if she was enclosed in something (like a trash bag or tote) and weighted underwater.
I just pray if they do find her, that's there's enough left to make a determination of cause of death, etc.
I know in the Caylee Anthony case her remains were most likely underwater for a time, but then the water receded, and decomp would have accellerated at that point.

Laci and Conner were weighted down in the San Francisco Bay. decomp eventually made them float up. Florida is not the San Francisco Bay.

It will be interesting if the neighbor did see her outside at 8, I would imagine it was pretty dark at that time though I don't know what they had for outdoor lighting.

If the body is secured and no water gets to it and the water temperature remains low, I think that will help preserve remains. For how long, I don't know. JMO

Authorities say Haleigh was last seen by neighbors about 8 p.m. on Feb. 9. She was reported missing about 3 a.m. Feb. 10 by Misty Croslin, her babysitter and then girlfriend to Haleighs father, Ronald Cummings. He was working a late shift at PDM Bridge, an industrial firm in Palatka.

We are finally seeing a time mentioned for when the neighbor saw Haleigh.
Reference: Post #45
The text you bolded is very interesting, W_D_1. So, I did some googling and learned that at 8:00 P.M. on February 09, 09:
The temperature for Palatka, the nearest weather station reporting I could find, was: 64° and Calm
End Civil Twilight: 6:36 P.M. (by 8:00 PM it would be full dark, except for the full moon that night)
http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstation/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=MAR990&month=2&day=9&year=2009

Unnessary data though because, after all, they were in bed at 8:00 PM according to Misty. [JMO * Themis]

That is true, they did take a car out of the area on a flatbed. But later media reports did say they have found *evidence*. I believe they have or they wouldn't be spending the time and resources to drain that pond this weekend.
BTW, a local who was on the scene last night has reported that she stopped at the Kangeroo, and two young men claimed they saw something being removed from the pond that was caught up into car part. She is a very credible source and is on her way back there this am. Everything she posted last night was on the money!!

Laci and Conner were weighted down in the San Francisco Bay. decomp eventually made them float up. Florida is not the San Francisco Bay.
My point being this. Laci was in the water for 4 months. Not enough left of either of them to determine a COD. Haleigh has been missing for 7 months. JMO.
Obviously there was a current in the bay which contributed to that. But Laci was not enclosed in something. That's why I was wondering about possibly being inside a tote/underwater and in a small pond (as opposed to the ocean.)

I hear what you're saying but thinking back to yesterday, local news reporters said all direct access roads to the "L Pond" were blocked.
The media outlets depend heavily on visuals. Those visuals available yesterday were fairly boring - guys shoulder to shoulder walking slowly in the pond, and the pump transferring water from the pond to surrounding flat land.
Guess what I'm trying to say, in these economic times the big shot media networks who have to travel big distances to small burgs like Satsuma and Palatka aren't going to do much until something big is reported locally. [JMO * Themis]

Didn't look to me either there is any sort of screen.
Maybe on the part under the water, but how to keep it unclogged??
Hopefully someone is sifting through what gets pumped out..
Let's see if I can explain this without causing confusion.
They can put a screen over the end of the pipe and tie some type of mesh type bag around it. While the pump is sucking stuff will be drawn to the end of the pipe. Turn the pump off every so often and what is on the end will fall into the bag.
I'm not saying that is what they are doing but that is one way to keep it unclogged and collect anything that might get sucked up.

Sheriff: Search Connected To Haleigh
Dive Teams Find Evidence In Pond Off U.S. 19 South Of Palatka
Saturday morning, the sheriff's office issued a statement saying Haleigh had not been found, but the search of the pond and surrounding woods off U.S. 19 south of Palatka has turned up evidence in the case.
"The current search is the result of one of the over 4,000 tips received in this case," Lt. Johnny Greenwood wrote. "The Putnam County Sheriff's (Office) has received information that there is possible physical evidence in the Haleigh Cummings investigation located in a body of water south of Palatka. Divers from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, and Clay County Sheriff's Office, are conducting underwater searches in this area. In an attempt to assist the divers, the decision has been made to lower the water level in the pond to reduce the search area."

Dive Teams Find Evidence In Pond Off U.S. 19 South Of Palatka
I too, got really confused, because when I went to read the article two seconds ago, I couldn't find the paragraph that was quoted that says they did find evidence. Now it says this:
"Saturday morning, the sheriff's office issued a statement saying Haleigh had not been found, but they were searching the pond and surrounding woods off U.S. 19 south of Palatka for evidence in the case."
Obviously it's been updated/corrected, but did the reporter jump the gun, misinterpret what the sheriff's office said, or did someone change their mind in publicizing that evidence had been found?
It does seem odd that they would know right away if evidence was found that was connected to the case but wasn't Haleigh's body, it would have to be something very distinct.
Oh, and hello to all, I usually don't post here but always check for updates on little Haleigh.

Imagine the divers down there in all that debris in the dark - what is big enough, would last, and could be seen with theri diving lights?
Also, the reported evidence found could be something in the brush around there and not in the water? Like the missing blanket? RC would know what blanket was missing from his home, if he told LE.
We don't know that a blanket is missing. When Misty said what she did about it being in a van a crime scene van had been at the house. She could have been talking about it being taken as evidence.

Maybe the necklace or pieces of her clothing? Possible a stuffed toy or something of her belongings? Maybe a cinder block matching the one holding the screen door open? Maybe Tommy is talking? Something led the LE there. To be a fly on that wall.
I agree with you, Sunnydale -- something led LE to this particular pond, and they are using a lot of resources to search it. I know that we are all hopeful even though we are dreading it at the same time, if you know what I mean.
There are a number of good posters here who do a fantastic job at sharing links they find and monitor. In fact, there's an entire thread to LINKS ONLY that is well worth reading each day if you haven't already noticed it.

PCSO says the Haleigh information regarding the pond did not come from the questioning of Hank Croslin Jr or his wife. But sources close to the investigation told 97.3 The Sky the information came from the interviews of several other people and parts of a letter from an jail inmate in another state.

I've seen this editing and changing happen so often lately.. I think it's a combination of zealous reporters trying to get a scoop and LE changing their mind about what they want the public to know.
MO
Thanks Grace, I'm sure that's it. Unfortunately, while the internet is great for getting news faster than we ever could before, it also makes it all too easy for some reporters to cut corners in checking sources just to get something up, since it's so easy to just edit articles later. Can't do that with print! (Or on InSessions...after 10 minutes!)
I'm very glad to read of so much recent activity in this case. It seems like the arrival of Tim Miller kicked all this stuff off, and that can only be a good thing. Even if nothing is found in the pond, it's one more lead that can be eliminated, one more place Haleigh is not.
Sadly, I believe she is dead, and I agree with the poster that thinks she is very likely in a body of water. :rose:

You see this?
LE on the search. 12.35PM local time.
From the link:
".......Finally, Sheriff Jeff Hardy released a statement before noon Saturday that the search was, indeed, for new clues in the Haleigh Cummings case..."

Yes, I saw that. Thanks.

Just saw that....I suppose she could be with LE and not arrested???
I'm sure if she was even picked up for questioning like her sister in law was it would be all over the local news.
i don't think they've found anything or will find anything in this pond that is 35 miles away.....Ok with that being said, I'm gonna get off here and go enjoy this pretty day.
I'll check back later.
Come home soon Haleigh :rose:
Because it says "physical evidence" and altho that could mean a body, I just think that's a strange way to say it.
I'm not sure what physical evidence they're talking about...there's been as lot of theories posted...blanket, nebulizer, cinder block, gun, but whatever it is, it's important enough to drain the pond of some of it's water to make it easier for the divers to search.
MO
no doubt they've found something, IMO....

I don't think they will find anything of value to the case. JMO. They are simply following leads or "misleads" trying to bring this child back home.

Could this be a misprint ? I may be wrong, but wouldn't it be dark at 8:00 p.m.?
Of course, I realize kids play outside after dark but I do believe Haleigh was afraid of the dark so this seems odd to me.
I am sorry Themis I wrote this post before I seen your post. I hope you know I was not questioning your findings. In fact, your research helped answer my question.
So, now that I have seen your post I realize it was dark so I just can't see the kids playing outside in the dark on a cool night in my opinion.
P. S. I did not mean to bold this post and then I hit the bold again to try and unbold it so I HOPE it works. If not, please forgive my bold post everyone - it was an accident.

http://public.pcso.us/jail/booking.aspx/
FYI There are sequence numbers missing on the current page: 09-08321, 09-08331, 09-08338, and 09-08341. These bookings may be for persons uder age 18. There is no one listed who has not already achieved age 18, eg birthdate must be 9/19/1991 or earlier to be 18 today. The youngest person shown birthdate is 5/23/1991, clearly already 18.
For bookings, LE in FL can publish felony arrest for persons over 16, but they are not required to do so.
For detentions, anyone not yet 18 will be housed outside the sight and sound of the general adult population or go to a juvenile facility.
This has nothing to do with being married, being an emancipated minor, being charged as an adult, but with bookings and detentions. I already posted the links in yesterday's thread.
Interesting info, Malleymo, and thanks for posting it. Keep it handy because you just know this topic will surface again soon.

anyone see this already....wonder who the other person is, that's in jail???
http://www.thesky973.com/pages/5253240.php
PCSO says the Haleigh information regarding the pond did not come from the questioning of Hank Croslin Jr or his wife. But sources close to the investigation told 97.3 The Sky the information came from the interviews of several other people and parts of a letter from an jail inmate in another state.
Could that be in Mass.? Wasn't someone interviewed on the Cape?

The Van with a scratch on it, or a police van? That's what we're trying to clear up.
And, where is Haleigh's blanket? Ron said they had no laundry detergent in the trailer and Misty claims to have been washing Haleigh's blanket.
Not the police van imo.

"Some info was gleaned from a letter from an inmate in another state." Wonder if the letter was sent to LE or if someone turned it over to LE. JMO
I have never heard of a letter from an inmate from another state before. Can you or someone tell me more about this?
here's another article that changed the wording...
http://www.wftv.com/news/20998031/detail.html
According to Putnam County officials, the search was prompted by over 4,000 tips they have received in the case. A spokesperson for the Sheriff’s office confirmed they have received information that there may be evidence located in the lake south of Palatka, but will not say what the evidence might be or if anything has been recovered.

Posters have assumed she meant it was in the van with the scratch on it. My point is that we don't know which van it was in if it was in a van. When Misty said vanshe may have been talking about the crime scene van that was at the home after Haleigh disappeared.
No one, LE or family, has ever said Haleigh's blanket is missing. IMO it's in evidence with the police.

Thank you for that link. I hate watching it because, IMO, Misty is lying through her teeth. The blanket, Misty's blanket, was in a van, can't remember who it belonged to at this point. LOL. But Haleigh's blanket has not been seen since, that I know of. JMO.
Misty says she covered Haleigh with a sheet because she was washing the blanket. WHERE IS HALEIGH'S BLANKET? (Sorry for screaming!)
I think LE has the pillow case, or else Haleigh was stuffed in the pillowcase. JMO.

It's about 18.7 miles by car, 35 minutes. It is in the exact range of where one would dump a body IMO.
Could Misty have taken her with her to party at this "party lake" and something happened there???
I know  I am just reaching I suppose *sigh*

No problem, Willow; I didn't think a thing of it. I just thought it odd that authorities would confirm a neighbor seeing Haleigh outside at 8 PM when we've heard Misty say a dozen times she puts Haleigh to bed at 8 every school night. Plus, back in February it would have to be totally dark except for that full moon. Misty said Tommy, her nephews and niece left no later than 5:45. GGMS says she saw them eating dinner at 7. There have been plenty of posts saying how very dark Green Lane is; a former tenant even said his son complained about it.
Tell you what, I won't take note of your technical glitches if you will ignore all of mine. [JMO * Themis]

Sorry but I disagree. The fact that she is married changes everything. In the eyes of the law she is no longer a minor.

The location fits well.
Dark, unlit, remote, hard to get to but close enough.
Well known to mudders and partiers, and well known in the community as such.
Plus a van might get scratched up rushing through there, since the driver would have to pull to the side nearer to brush to avoid the mud.
Pics of the pond area being searched are saved. Click my profile for the link.

It could be a misprint or it's possible that after eating dinner the kids stayed out on the porch for awhile and a neighbor saw them playing there around 8pm.
I don't know why I did not think about that and I think you could be right.

Yes, I think I'm responsible (my bad) for bringing that up the other day. We had a big discussion about it. I thought since she was under 18, she wouldn't be charged as an adult. I was very quickly corrected, thanks to the good posters here.

Spousal immunity doesn't apply in this case. Florida has an exemption if the crime involves harm to a child.

Quick thought though. Even if they find something related to Haleigh, it still won't show us what happened or who did it. Unless..... Tommy is saying this is where we went that night. JMO. With Haleigh in tow and jr.
So glad you said that, cuz this was my gut reaction upon hearing news of the search. Since the bed hadn't been slept in that night, I wondered if Misti had taken the kids out partying to that pond - a notorious party spot. She left by the trailer's back door to avoid being seen by neighbors. At the party, she left Jr. sleeping in the car. But something dreadful happened to Haleigh - either she drowned while unsupervised......or () she was assaulted/molested by a party-goer.....and was disposed of right there in the pond.
just my first impression, subject to change
