It's been a while since I read the bios, but IIRC it seemed the majority were listed as from CA. I'd like to see more regional diversity, as well as age diversity. I am so sick and tired of swimsuit models and mixologists. But of course I'll be watching.

I agree.. I loved it when that retired marine or navy seal guy was on.. was his name Rudy.. can't remember.. and the guy on last season the smart guy... skinny... he was a professor or something of physics... tired of seeing all these skinny wannabee models and guys dumber than rocks.. but good looking... need more variety.. I mean some are okay but not a full cast of them... oh like that NFL players wife last season too...

Can you believe he lied about going through Katrina in New Orleans?

No kidding! And what's up with pouring all the water out of their canteens?

This show has had some mighty quirky people before - & certainly has had plenty of liars, but this guy is beyond the pale.

And frankly, I am pretty well sick of the way the producers continue to choose the really hateful misogynists to be on the show. Blech.

Russ is for sure ....well, theres not enough room on the board for the words I would use to describe him...
With that said, as horrible as it was, I do think he'll add some twisted drama on the show. I hope he's around for awhile anyways.

I wonder what made him think of doing mean stuff to see the others personalities when things go bad. I dont recall any other player in Reality show history to use this strategy. Its either brilliant or it will sink him fast. Time will tell.

Rupert did several years back. Remember when he stole all of the opposing tribes stuff when they were running around the city looking for stuff on the very first episode? And Rupert turned out to be one of the most popular contestants ever. And Johnny Fairplay with his fake message that his grandmother had died?

Wow...a real live Rocket Scientist (John Fincher - 25) playing the game. I hear that comment all the time about...it doesn't take a RS to do this or that or figure out this or that. Well, now we get to see the real thing...play and figure out the game. :w00t:

I think Russell Hantz fell way down from the same tree that Chima fell from. It's not going to take much for this guy to lose his temper. In his own self-righteous, delusional, mind...he already truly thinks he's running the place.

He got all hot under the collar saying Marisa verbally attacked him. WTH...all she did was tell him that she was a little wary of him because he seemed to be talking to each person individually. He immediately said she had to go. How dare she question his honesty!

The despicable creep says he's a multi-millionaire and is only there to make everyone as miserable as he can and to show them how easy it is to become the winner of Survivor (the money means nothing). Dumping the water was one thing...but burning the socks was totally uncalled for.

I'm praying to the Survivor Goddesses to get Russel Hantz on his horse and back to Texas. HE'S SCARY!

I hate doctors...but I'm going to make an appointment with Mick as soon as I can. Wahoooooooooder...he be FINE! :tongueside:

Has anyone figured out yet who it is that Jeff throws out of the competition?

Russell (meanie) is setting out to self destruct his own tribe. Hope they wise up before too many of them are voted out.

One short measly hour to introduce everyone and get in two challenges, is just not giving enough time to learn all the characters in this season. I sure wish the season opener would be a full 2 hours.

Well, Jeff has said that two people were evaculated this season. Maybe one is Russell.

Actually, I'm getting a very bad vibe from another male on the Fao Fao tribe. If I'm not confused, his name is Ben. ...just a hunch, because so little coverage has aired so far. (I hope I have the right name) Tall fellow, with red tattoo on inside upper arm area.

With the tribal challenges needing brawn and muscle, I am thinking that Russel may have nothing to fear for a couple more immunity losses. Maybe less, if his tribemates wise up. For now, some of them are using him to do the dirty work, so that they can just slide under the radar and stay another week.

Those that didn't vote the way that Russell did last time, will likely become his targets (mick and betsy, I think)

I can't believe the one that got sent to the opposing tribe went marching in with the attitude she had! Talk about going to bite her in the butt @ some point later down the line that one will. And what is up with her being so danged mad that a guy tackled her during the challenge? All of the women got tackled by guys, it was part of the game for crying out loud. Did she think she was somehow special? I think Jeff was right in tossing Ben out of the challenge, that was really a cheap shot. He did not just trip Russell he clipped him in the back of the knee. That is illegal in football so it should be in that challenge too.

OMG:scared: He found the idol

That idol was hidden in a place that was fairly secure. How many people would stick their head in a tree hole, just to look to see what was in there? Creepy things live in holes, snakes, critters? Gives me shivers just thinking about it.

Will Russell be added to the list of Survivor contestants who fail to use the idol, and are voted out? Can his tribemates pull off a blindside, and get him voted out? This I would enjoy seeing!

I was kind of hoping it would be a fake idol... that guy just totally disgusts me... when these people watch back after being voted off.. (not sure if the ones that don't make the jury can watch or not) they are going to feel like fools.. that guy just creeps me out. AND I agree with you about Ben what an jerk he was last night.. especially his comments to the girl from the other tribe.. (sorry it's early and I forgot her name)..Yasmin... had to look it up... when he called her ghetto trash.. I believe were his words.. and then those boneheads vote off Betsy... man I wouldn't want to be on that tribe for anything.

Felt bad for Mike, he seemed like a nice guy.. but guess he wasn't as in good of shape as Rudy.. remember the navy seal guy from a couple ones back... lol.. loved that guy...

Was a good show sort of last night... but that Russell just makes me ill.. what a total jerk.. total... disgusting he has that dang idol.

After watching the first episode of Survivor, I had a hunch about Ben. I suspected that he was the one who would be thrown out of the challenge, and that proved to be true. It sure didn't take him long to go off on Yasmin. Just wait until he does that to someone on his own tribe.

I was so surprised to see that Russell told Jaison that he'd found the immunity idol. Very surprised.

It looks like Survivor didn't provide adequate health screening of Mike, before they cast him in the part of "the old guy." It was scary to see how disoriented and unsteady he was after that challenge.

OMG:scared: He found the idol

He's a piece of work, isn't he? As much as he seems like a mean ol' troll, I had to give him credit for being ambitious enough & clever enough to think about the fact that there would probably be an immunity idol around somewhere. But to think he would actually FIND the dang thing, without a single clue being given to him - ACK!

It looks like he & Jaison will have a very short-lived alliance, since the previews showed Jaison making some sort of comment about either he had to go or Russell had to go.

Every season I see one player or another & think "you must have never watched this show before - or you would know better than to act like that" - & that's all I could think of when I saw Jasmin stroll into the camp & start running off with her commentary about how easy they were to beat, how they needed to take advice from her, yadda, yadda, yadda. Is she insane?! LOL

Ben's behavior was just as bad - I can't believe he tripped Nice Russell the way he did. What a cheap shot that was.

Russell stirring things up around his camp, does make for good TV, I guess. It may not be making him any friends though. And to win at Survivor, you must have folks willing to vote to give you the prize money at the end.

Why does it seem like almost the entire hour of the show is focused on only the yellow Fao Fao tribe? Or is this just me?

The Fao Fao tribe is down to 4 men and 3 women. Who would vote to oust Russell on that tribe? Could the tribe blindside him and vote him out, thus possibly putting the immunity idol back into play? If I was Jaison, I'd be trying to make this happen.

They can vote to oust him but he has the immunity idol(the personal one that he found in the tree trunk) to use.. so they can't.. they need to try to oust him so he uses it.. then they can get him back again and oust him when he doesn't have it... does that make any sense.

But IF they could manage to blindside Russell at their next tribal council, it would make for great TV. Just how secure does Russell feel right now? He sure seemed cocky that everyone would vote out Betsy this last time.

LOS ANGELES – "Survivor" is safe in Samoa.

A spokeswoman for the CBS reality show says no crew members were harmed by the powerful earthquake that struck the South Pacific between Samoa and American Samoa around dawn Tuesday, sending large tsunami waves ashore.

The earthquake, with a magnitude between 8.0 and 8.3, had no effect on the production of the 20th season, which the spokeswoman said was not being filmed at the time.

The 19th season was also filmed in Samoa.

We noticed that also, about John. And the fact that we know virtually NOTHING about the other tribe. I like it better when the tribes tend to alternate on getting immunity. Just like last year, they seem to be decimating one tribe. Of course this seems to be part of evil Russell's master plan to get to the merge quicker. Does he not know the larger member tribe tends to get rid of the new tribe members? Oh that's right it doesn't apply to him because he can run the show anytime, anywhere. :tongueside:

Russell was correct in his assessment of the rest of his Foa Foa tribe. They are dumb as rocks. Not one tried to figure out who was playing them by emptying all the canteens. I wouldn't have trusted Russell from day one. It should have been obvious to them by now that he's manipulating them. He's a fat older man who really has not been any help in the challanges, yet gets them to vote off others who were more helpful. Haven't they ever watched "Survivor?" Russell's going along with getting rid of Ben was a smart move, only to keep him in good graces with the rest of the tribe. He's in trouble now, because unless there's a merge soon, or there's a twist of moving some from the Galu tribe over, his weak Foa Foa tribe will be voted off one by one. Then when there is a merge with Galu, being unable to win immunity, Russell will be quickly voted off. He only has one immunity idol. The other potential flaw in Russell's strategy is that Jaison stood his ground about not voting Ashley off, and forcing the vote for Ben. Russell sees Jaison as a threat now. If he tries to get the others to vote Jaison off, even the dumbest of the tribe will realize that Russell has been playing them, and vote his butt off. I can understand screwing with people's heads to win the million dollars, but Russell has admitted that he's a wealthy man doing it just for the fun of it. That man needs professional help. He's such an evil man that he makes Richard Hatch seem like Ethan or Colby...

I am so happy that Ben was voted off! It was a unanamous vote too, wasn't it? (with Ben casting the only conflicting vote)

It was good to see the tribe go against Russell's plan to vote out Ashley. Yes! Yes! Yes!!! Ashley must have felt so good walking back to camp after tribal council. And, Russell must not be feeling too good. Wonder what shenanigans he will be up to now?

This season has so many unfinished endings. I agree we hardly know anything of the other tribe. Russell has gotten all of the attention. Since every person (besides Ben) voted for Ben, I think Russell may not be targeting Jaison. I think Russell saw the writing on the wall & realized that it was more in his interests to go with the majority. The funny part of it was hearing him say - over & over again - that he was controlling the game & everyone on his tribe. Pretty obvious he sure wasn't in control, since he changed his vote to Ben! LOL

I think by the time the other tribe ever gets to tribal council, there will have been enough friction & tension building up that it will be mighty interesting to see who is on the outs. You noticed that the guys were not particularly impressed that Nice Russell chose the luxury items over the functional ones, to keep those lazy girls happy. Those pillows & stuff looked comfy, but in a rainy climate you know they will get nasty & moldy before too long.

You have a very good point about the Galu tribe. Some were not at all happy with Nice Russell's pick of the comfort items. That tarp (and weren't there fishing supplies also?) probably would have provided much, much more comfort (than pillows) against the upcoming rains that the tribe will shortly face.

Maybe one of the yoga participants will be the first target when they go to tribal council for the first time.

I agree, that was a bad decision! They are out there to survive not vacationing @ some resort. Get the things you need to have water, shelter & food first then worry about comfort. I agree with Shambo too re the yoga stuff. Get your lazy butts up, get what you need to survive for the day then if there is time do relaxing things like yoga.

I tend to disagree with this belief. They would rather vote out a true challenger knowing Russell can't win challenges. However, if Jaison makes the merge and makes it know Russell has the HII they could possibly blindside him to put it back in play.

Yes, that is the Survivor dilemma through & through, isn't it? They want to keep the challenge-monsters while they are split into 2 tribes - but as soon as the merge comes along they all have to scramble to get RID of the challenge-monster.

If Bad Russell makes it to the merge, I'm sure he will have no trouble at all putting on his sympathy face & will engage every new person (to him) to spill the beans & air their gripes about their tribemates - then he will use what he knows against them. He is sly & appears to be a constant conniver - & as much as he is sleazy, he sure does seem to have a whole lot more on the ball than a bunch of the others. I still can't get over that he found the hidden immunity idol without a single clue - ack!

He's in the game to win - & I believe he would have those lazy girls for lunch - easily!

Shambo seems to have taken a dislike to her own tribemates. If they lose an immunity challenge, she could become the target. I wonder if she will realize that there is an immunity idol in her own camp, and search/find it.

I think once the "comfort items" become useless "Nice Russell" may have a problem ~ that is if and when Galu loses an immunity challenge! I don't see Shambo going quite yet.

I just read all of your posts on this season so far and just wanted to mention a couple of things.

1. Russell's lie about Hurricane Katrina then his confession to us that he's from TX, millionaire oil baron, or whatever. I'm not even sure I believe THAT story. And for the love that is all that is good and sacred find that man some decent underwear. He just grosses me out.

2. As bad as I want Russell out, Ben quickly overtook him in the jerk category. Did he say that he didn't know they were following Jeff's "sissy rules" in that challenge?? Uhh, Jeff is staying at that resort making more money that that fool will ever make in his lifetime, even if he WON! And Jeff warned them no more cheap shots!

I know what you mean about having no confidence in Bad Russell's story of being a millionaire. I did read somewhere else that he is married & has four children, which makes me pity his children!

I sure was glad he had a pair of shorts on during this last week's episode, because those drawers we have been seeing him in were NASTY.

Outrageous as he is, Bad Russell is definitely providing the entertainment factor for this season. Ben, on the other hand, was not even remotely entertaining - with one exception - at tribal council when Jaison was telling Jeff that Ben was always criticizing & correcting & arguing with people. And how did Ben respond to that? Denying it entirely - by criticizing, correcting & arguing! LOL. Sometimes you just have to love the irony.

I wonder though, if Ben was correct in his assessment that his tribe would go hungry & cold without him around to work. Guess we'll see if they have to step it up now that he is gone - from the looks of it, he sure did know how to get a fire going fast, while the others were struggling mightily to even get a spark out of their flint.

Do you suppose that Bad Russell will be having the last laugh, if none of the others can make fire? To himself, yes.
Will he step up to make fire, if the others fail. Naw... he'll let them suffer.

OMIGOSH, I had not even thought about that, but I think you are right. I can envision Bad Russell deliberately feigning an inability to get a fire started, just so the rest of his tribemates would have an increase in the misery factor.

IF I was a crazed loon and decided to try out for the show (my sister did and honestly she'd be great but she'd be kicked off the island before tribal council even started) I would read every survival manual I could get my hands on. I would also leave being a pro at making fire. Remember the dude that was the gravedigger (last season I think)? That's what he did. I'd be helpful but not too aggressive and I'd certainly carry my weight.

One thing I have to disagree with. I'm not sure what they do with all of the hours of their days, but the little group yoga sessions seem like a great idea to me. I've done yoga for years and it's all about harmony and balance. They're winning the challenges so who's to say it's not a good thing to do everyday? Better than sniping and griping.

I hadn't heard about Bad Russell having kids. Can you imagine what they are raised to act like???

Shucks! I really wish that this show aired more than just for one hour, once a week.

Russell has shown the immunity idol to both Mick and Jaison, and I'm wondering if they will sneakily work to get him voted out, thus putting the idol back into play? Jaison has to know that he went against Russell's plans, and that Russell may come after him next. I imagine that both Mick and Jaison are thinking about that idol.

<snipped>

Bad Russell seems to be more interested in targeting the people who tell him (one way or another) that they don't TRUST him. I think that's why he got rid of Betsy & the first lady (name I don't recall right now). I don't think Russell would specifically target Jaison before Ashley, unless Jaison confronts him the way the women did - by telling him he doesn't trust him. From what we have seen so far, that is the sort of thing that seems to get Bad Russell on the rampage against you.

Guess we'll find out!

I hope on this week's episode they will show us what Shambo told her tribemates after her visit to the other camp. I think Yasmin had legitimate gripes against Ben, but she sure didn't seem to have an ounce of tact or diplomacy when she started in on the entire tribe about how they should pay attention to what she had to say & she would tell them how to win challenges. Now, who in their right mind would think that approach was a smart idea? LOL

right - dumb way to approach the tribe - and I thought her diatribe at Ben was WAY over the top. Even tho others didn't like Ben - they just thought she was nutty, imo. We don't see much of what is going on with her in her home tribe but I can't imagine that she is a different person over there. Sparks must be flying - too bad we don't get to see it.

It wasn't the fact that they were doing the yoga, it was their timing. They were doing the yoga before the daily chores of the camp were even started much less completed. IMO you get your chores done so that you will have what you need to survive another day then if you have time left over you do relaxation things.

Yes, having a yoga session before some of the essential chores were done that morning, tells me that those four people are playing more of a social game, than they are a "survival" game. Just wait until the rains come, and everyone is wet, cold, and hungry.

I absolutely agree. They do not have an adequate shelter against rain & they don't seem to be interested in building one. They are not planning ahead.

Not surprised to see Yasmin get voted out, but now it looks like Nice Russell (or at least we thought he was nice, compared to Bad Russell) is going to go on the rampage - did y'all see that hissy fit he was throwing??? Whoa - what was that about? I sure didn't see Jeff explain that the team captains could not be voted off at tribal council.

I hope somebody feeds Jaison, or does something to get his morale raised, because with his "this is the worst mistake of my life" story going on, his tribemates will pick up on that & vote him off.

Yes, there were two hidden immunity idols - one at each camp. I guess that it has something to do with not having a separate exile island this season.

And what the heck was wrong with Shambo to just tell those two guys what the clues were? Why would she trust any of them, when she has said herself, more than once, that her own tribemates don't like her? I think she is being naive', if she thinks they wouldn't all stab her in the back when it suits them.

I had to laugh when they were trying to catch the chicken. A person will NEVER catch a chicken by trying to run it down, they are faster & way more agile. To catch one you have to herd it into a corner then catch it. Standing there calling it isn't going to work either.
Tribe leader Russell better step back. His authority does not extend to telling tribe members how to vote. He needs to realize he is a team leader not a team dictator.

When the idol is hidden within the camp there are two of them. That way each team has a chance to have an idol. When it is hidden on exile island there is only one. This season there is no exile island.

What I was waiting to see was whether any of them had the sense to quit chasing that chicken during daylight hours, but pay attention to where she came to roost. Then when it gets dark - go get her. I guess we may never know the outcome of the loose chicken.

But for as silly as that chicken chasing was, I was actually mighty impressed that Shambo got at least one of them contented enough to lay an egg - & pretty much immediately. I don't recall any other season where the survivors got chickens in a reward, where any one of them seemed to have a clue that the chickens wouldn't lay unless they were comfy & cozy.

Gotta love Jeff

ETA: watch the video at the bottom with Yaz. 2 parts. LMAO she'd never do Survivor again. NO not ever again. Gotta love her honesty??

What a neat website - thanks for finding that & posting the link.

Interesting comments from Jeff about how Shambo's tribemates are full of folks who are like a group of schoolkids - who are too cool, too cool for you & too cool for school - ROFLOL. Yeah, I can appreciate what he means by that. I also thought his comments about how they b*tch about Shambo, but then make sure to give her the jobs that have the highest risks of mishap - so if there is a screw-up - it's on her, not THEM. That's a high school clique sort of behavior if ever I saw one.

Easier to find it again. I wonder what "owns an oil company" actually means in this case. The phrase gives me visions of big ol' Texas millionaire with a 100,000 acre spread. Somehow I don't see "Evil Russell" as that. Anyone know. How rich (or not) is he?

He isn't from New Orleans he made all of that up for sympathy which IMO is pathetic.

He's from Dayton TX and owns an Oil Company.

http://www.cbs.com/primetime/survivor/bio/russell_h_19/bio.php?season=19 I might have answered my own question in the above post. Russell Hantz in the phone listings in Dayton TX - and the address in an area of mobile homes. There is a business listed (under Towing & Marine) - not a member of the BBB. Confusing stats written up on the business- like something Russell may have done himself. Personally I think he has a missing tooth because he can't afford to fix it. Suddenly he doesn't seem so evil to me - just a pushy guy trying really hard the only way he knows.

Here in Texas you can say you own an oil company if you own one well or one tanker truck. There are thousands of very small independant oil companies run by families. Not all are on the level of JR Ewing & Southfork.

Tonight's episode seem to be all about the tribes suffering from being wet and cold. Nice Russell made a poor decision to not sit out the challenge, and it cost him dearly. Of course, if he'd not made the earlier poor decision to choose pillows over a tarp, he might not have been in such poor health either.

ummmm, has anyone researched that? i did, could find nothing. Dayton is out in the middle of nowhere, but close to an area that has a lot of oil industry. if he'll lie about one, why not lie about another. i guess my grandparents owned an oil company, since they had wells on their land, as WH posted above.

I knew the trib would regret that decision @ some point & they sure paid the price with the 5 days of rain. I agree with you, had Russell made the decision to take the tarp & the other survival items over the comfort items his health may have not deteriorated so rapidly. And if he as leader would have assigned daily tasks to each member that were to be completed before any leisure activities could be done I think his tribe would be in better shape. Also as leader I think he should have seen to it that they had adequate shelter & protection for the fire & fire wood in wet weather.

Did they own the wells or did they lease the mineral rights to an oil company to drill on their land? Most oil companys do not own the land they drill on, they lease the mineral rights from the land owners.
