Yep, if you look at the relevant numbers buried in this new Gallup poll, you’ll see that a majority of Republicans opposes Wilson’s outburst. Here’s the breakdown of Republican attitudes towards the “you lie” moment:
Support, thrilled: 9%
Support, not thrilled: 30%
No opinion: 8%
Oppose, not outraged: 44%
Oppose, outraged: 8%
As you can see, 44 percent oppose what Wilson did, but are not outraged, while another eight percent oppose it and are outraged. That’s a total of 52% of Republicans who oppose Wilson’s explosion — versus only 39% who support it.

Seems many thought they all supported such behavior—the truth will out.

Maybe they can go back and rebuke themselves and erase some of the hypocrisy. IMO

I's not a big fan of Barney Frank, but I couldn’t agree more with this:
One of the Democrats voting "present," Barney Frank of Massachusetts, said, "I think it's bad precedent to put us in charge of deciding whether people act like jerks. I don't have time to monitor everyone's civility."

Such a petty issue. Isn't there something more important they can be doing?

I don't think this poll is surprising at all.
Most Republicans, in fact most people, would never behave like that.

the lies about the war, you must be kidding, that is not calling the president a liar, that is stating facts when it was his turn to speak, republicans could of done the same after the president during their air time, that is not the same at all, the president did lie, there were no WMD's and no one shouted it out while the president was giving an address, the president was not even there, nice try though
If Obama was telling the truth, why the need for the amendment to the bill? It is what it is and you seem to want to apply a double standard. IMO

But you see that won't matter because the repubs never acted to censure ( I was told that the other day about the 2005 SOTU). So translated it means he was "not rude" and he never said it.

Boy, if they really did this they would be busy for the next year.
I'm sure the reason this is being done isn't lost on most people. It reminds you of the representatives when they stand there and go on and on in an empty hall.

You're exactly right. He was disingenuous. A lie by omission is still a lie.

Well Maureen Dowd certainly has a way with words.
It's free, but you need log in and pass word.
Had to read it myself as I heard the column talked about on radio and TV today.

I grew up in the 50s 60s. I've lived with the turmoil and the he's a "jerk" so let it go. This is over 40 years later, and I'm not going to let the jerk racism remarks go anymore. It's divisive, prejudice rearing it's ugly head again. I respect the country too much to look the other way.
No the other side needs to "behave." and grow up. IMHO. Wilson opened a can of worms, and now wants it to go away. Let's discuss what he started on the floor of Congress. He got his 15 min. of fame to raise money, and now want a mea culpa? Free pass? He'll go down in history alright, and his grandkids, and great grandkids will have to live with it.

<on soapbox>
I remember a presidential speech a few months ago on health care reform. At the end of the L O N G talk & presser Q&A, 2 questions were thrown at BO about a Harvard Professor. Despite qualifying his 2 responses would be personally biased and absent of all the evidence,BO was raked over the coals for weeks and weeks for giving his honest opinion. The issues regarding his health care speech were buried in the superficial ugliness of 2 off topic questions IMO. BO went to great lengths to try and appease all parties.
Isn't this 'Wilson's one apology is enough, let's move on' banter slightly hypocrital and ironic? Instead of bullying and disrespecting a political peer, Wilson would have better serving his constituents if he presented alternative plans and information to what he perceives to be "lies" IMO. Not sure he'd raise as much $ tho.
Sorta O/T: Just wondering, has Wilson called his guh-vee-nah out on his own lies yet? TIA

looking back, it's too bad no dems shouted 'you lie' as bush lied during a speech... wilson's shoutout paid off, maybe a little rudeness would have paid off with the war.

Other Republicans stepped up to the microphone to agree that this was a distraction from the important things they could be doing. (Like stepping up their effort to kill President Obama’s attempt to provide health care for the have-nots in society?) “When we are done here today,” said the man who accused the president of lying, “we will not have taken any steps to improve the country.” Actually, Wilson is dead wrong again. When House Democrats, and a handful of Republicans, reprimanded the congressman on Tuesday evening for refusing to apologize to his colleagues for breaking the rules, it was quite a wonderful way to improve America. It was a rare triumph for civility in a country that seems to have lost all sense of it — from music arenas to tennis courts to political gatherings to hallowed halls — and a ratification of an institution that has relied on strict codes of conduct for two centuries to prevent a breakdown of order.

He did not lie, he misspoke. If you want to claim he lied about WMD's then every single democrat lied too as they made the same statement and relied on the same intel.
This is not exactly true.
GWB got his intel from from those who agreed with him.
He did not ask for suggustions from his Secretary of State or Secretary of Defense because he knew darn well that they did not go along with him.
IMO, he wanted agreement and he got it with Dick Cheney.
