She was 32 weeks along; the baby was delivered but its sex and condition are unknown.

Certainly girls should not be pregnant at 15, but neither of them deserved this.

The suspect is still at large, and authorities say it was not random.

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A pregnant teen who was shot at her school bus stop in northeast Charlotte early Monday morning has died as a result of her injuries.

The shooting was in the 6700 block of Mallard Park Drive and occurred just before 6 a.m. Neighbors who came out with their children to wait for the school bus were in shock upon hearing what happened.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said the victim is 15-year-old Tiffany Wright.

The teen's foster mother said she went inside the house to get Wright a glass of water. The foster mother told police she heard at least three gunshots. When she went outside, she discovered that Wright had been shot.

When police officers arrived, they found the victim lying on the street suffering from a single gunshot wound to the head.

"Witnesses heard a car speeding away after the shooting, but we don't have a good description of the car at this time," CMPD Chief Rodney Monroe said.

Wright was 32 weeks pregnant, police said.

She was critically injured and transported to Carolinas Medical Center-Main where she later died. Doctors, however, were able to save the child's life.

Dozens of police officers spent the morning canvassing the neighborhood and questioning people in an effort to find out more about the suspect.

The CMPD, however, has not been able to identify a motive for the shooting.

As of noon, WBTV Reporter Trent Faris said police were following up on a strong lead concerning a possible suspect in the case.

Someone posted this in Current Crimes. Could the threads be merged?

I started a thread about this in Breaking News. Could they be merged?

The original story didn't mention that she was in foster care. I'm going to let other people come to their own conclusions about what this could possibly mean.

What would be the motivation to shoot a teenager at a bus stop? I wonder if they know who the father of her child is and whether he has an alibi or not.

Thankfully the baby survived.

Oops just saw your thread, airportwoman. Hopefully they can be combined.

I can't imagine what would motivate someone to do this but it sounds like they have a strong lead about a suspect and I am wondering about the father too. I really hope this wasn't some way of dealing with an unwanted pregnancy on his part.

There was a murder of a 14 y/o girl in this state several years ago. I can't remember the age of the dad, but definitely @ least 20. He hired some of his friends to take her out in the country and shoot her. Seems her folks were pressing charges about statutory rape. I guess he figured, if she was dead, no one could say for absolute sure--but then I guess he didn't think about DNA of the baby, whether it survived or not (it didn't.)

Since there isn't any info about the dad, don't know if he would have been involved, but, as you note, it could be someone's way of dealing w/an unwanted pregnancy, or even someone not wanting to face charges if he is much older than the girl.

Or, I guess it could even have been another girl (maybe not the shooter, maybe talking a "friend" into doing it) if she thinks this girl would have a hold on "her man" by being pregnant. Some girls do downright scary things these days if they feel their "property" is being threatened.

According to that article, he had a wife at some point who accused him of DV. I hope she is well rid of him. JMO. :crying:
