One plain fact should outweigh all the words of Barack Obama and all the impressive trappings of the setting in which he says them: He tried to rush Congress into passing a massive government takeover of the nation's medical care before the August recess-- for a program that would not take effect until 2013!
Whatever President Obama is, he is not stupid. If the urgency to pass the medical care legislation was to deal with a problem immediately, then why postpone the date when the legislation goes into effect for years-- more specifically, until the year after the next Presidential election?
If it is not urgent that the legislation goes into effect immediately, then why don't we have time to go through the normal process of holding Congressional hearings on the pros and cons, accompanied by public discussions of its innumerable provisions? What sense does it make to "hurry up and wait" on something that is literally a matter of life and death?

Great observation, and it is definitely part of a pattern. Healthcare, stimulous, Gitmo, Iraq, Afghanistan, DADT, gay rights, etc. all seem a hurry but can wait. imo

Apparently you have health insurance & aren't in any hurry to see those 46 million Americans protected as well. In the next few years, as premiums double or triple and more businesses have to drop it you may become one of those statistics as well. Fate has a funny way of providing people exactly what they wish on others.

Yes, he got lots of irons in the fire: must be doing something right, cause everyone is complaining and more are now paying attention. Of course he set deadlines, just to jump start stuff. What better time to set a deadline than Aug, when he KNOWS everyone goes back to their communities and takes the hot summer month off etc before Labor Day: an American tradition. He's ignited lots of fires, and I have no doubt he's keep track of more than one at a time. He was accused of being too ambitious in the primaries and general election..... but he drew all in and pulled it off. the cabinet went to work on day one of the Inauguration... never done before. Talk about setting goals and your mind to it.... like in his good speech to school children today. I so identified with that.
Chess and checkers folks. I'm loving it. IMHO

I would hardly compare Obama Care to something that might actually reduce the cost of health insurance and neither can you , because the final version of the bill has yet to be written and the cowards in the House have not voted on it, ergo, you can't possibly know. All we know is what's in the various versions be floated in the House, and it's going to cost all of us alot more. And the number is forever changing- 50 -48 - 46 million. Make up your mind. How is it going to be paid for? How many of them choose not to have insurance? Alot of young people don't have it because they think they'll live forever and don't need it, which is partly why you don't hear from them clamoring for Obama Care.
Everyone, even those without insurance, can get health care.
Besides the people without health insurance, many more are underinsured. When a chronic or catastrophic illiness strikes they find that their insurance maxes out or they face high co-pays or the treatment simply isn't covered by their insurance. Some of these people are forced into bankruptcy, face home foreclosures, and/or other deprivations. If you think this doesn't affect you and yours, think again. Those people struggling to pay for health care and losing their homes is a serious drain on the economy, causing job loss, declining real estate values, and a sluggish Wall Street. I think we are headed for a crisis if something isn't done to address health care reform. IMO
