The Strain Trilogy (http://www.thestraintrilogy.com/)
As much as I love the horror genre, I have never been a big fan of vampire novels.
But... I must bring this novel to the attention of the poster's who post on the book forum. I am almost two hundred pages into this first novel in a trilogy. Another thing I normally would not like. The trilogy.
This book is fantastic. I'm trying to slowly finish it in hopes that the next book will be released soon after I'm done with this one.
For those who are unaware of who Guillermo Del Toro is... he is the man responsible for the creation of the Oscar-winning film, Pan's Labyrinth.
For anyone here who enjoys vampire novels... I highly recommend you pick up this book. I promise you will not be disappointed.
The second book in the trilogy will be titled The Fall.
And, of course, I look forward to any critique of the book by those who read it. :)

Thanks ♫Rock*Star♫ - like you, I'm not a fan of vampire books. I still haven't even started the Twilight series.

Wow! Well you sucked me in!
Just requested it from my library; it is "being processed" for shelving, "new books." I should get it in a day or two!!!!

Yay! :)
Please come back here and post what you think after you read the first few pages. I sincerely look forward to what you think of this book.
If anyone interested in vampire novels clicks on the link above... I'm sure those posters will be 'sucked in' as well.
I'll let you know for sure. Will check if my book is ready tomorrow or Friday.
I'm not a fan of vampire books by any stretch of the imagination! I did read the Twilight books and gotta admit I loved them. Also liked a couple by Ann Rice, back in her hey-day. It's not the usual genre I would pick. However, I gotta admit when someone says 'OMG OMG OMG, this book is SOOOOOOO good'...I do pay attention. From reading the various reviews on Amazon and BN, this book sounds terrific. I'll report back!

I patiently await your thoughts on this book. :)
Oh gosh, it's terrific!!!
It was really just a fluke I got it at the library. Apparently it had JUST come in, and was in the process of being shelved, and I got my online request in before anyone else got to it!!
Anyway, I picked it up yesterday on my lunch hour and started it last night. I literally couldn't put it down. I am up to about 100 pages I think. Will be reading it non-stop over the weekend, I'm sure.
I like the way it hops around between people and places; it was quite easy to follow who is who and what's going on (well, sorta). I still don't have all the "answers" yet though!
Will report back over the weekend!
Oh, do you know book 2 won't be released until next year, and then book 3 in 2011? Ack, it will be SO hard to wait!

Ahhh... so glad to hear you picked it up.
I'm about ninety or so pages from being finished. I just finished the 'Final Interlude.' The parts of the book that tell the story of Setrakian during World War II.
I was not aware of when the other books will be published. Thanks for bringing that info to my attention.
It is probably inevitable that this trilogy will be made into a film or two. Or three. Guillermo Del Toro is on his way to becoming a high profile director. If he isn't already there.
I should be done with the book by the end of this weekend. Will post then & I do look forward to your thoughts after you finish the book as well.
Well tonight's a good night for reading! I'm in FL and really figured I'd go in my pool after work but alas it has started to thunder/rain really hard. ("It was a dark and stormy night"......) So.....guess I'll pour myself a glass of wine and get right to it.
