Saturday was a good day of football.
Bama wins, ND loses, USC looks very average, UT loses at home to a PAC-10 team wearing powder blue.
Some realities....
Reality no. 1: It says a lot about how good a team is expected to be when it wins 40-14, gains over 500 yards on offense, holds the other team to 1 yard rushing -- and people are still complaining.
Reality no. 2: All of the above things happened -- and we can all agree that overall Bama played poorly. And our best offensive player (Julio) played very little. Says a lot about the talent level. It also says that, if Bama will cut out the foolish mistakes (and learn to cover a kickoff) this is a championship-caliber team. They still have to earn it on the field, but you can see the parts are in place.
Reality no.3: If the Aubies really think running up some numbers on the worst team in the SEC proves anything, they are in for some unpleasant surprises later in the year. It was a nice win, and I know they are all smacking their lips after a long dry spell, but nobody who really knows football can look at AU's talent and think it is in the same universe as the Tide's. That's not a shot; it's just reality.

Florida quarterback Tim Tebow has been released from a Lexington, Ky., hospital, about 12 hours after taking a hard hit to the head against Kentucky.
Wonderful News!
I question whether Tebow should have played at all. He had the flu, and he looked sick all night. He was far from his usual cheerleading self. The guy had to be flown separately from the rest of the team, which tells me he was sick enough not to be there at all. & what the h was Urban thinking keeping Tebow in when they were that far ahead~They Had Sealed The Win?
Winning at all costs is not a good trait. jmo

I hope that both Alabama and Florida finish undefeated and ranked 1-2 in the BCS standings. Then they'll play each other in the SEC championship game like they did last year, right?
That kind of situation is almost as good as having a college playoff, since the winner of the SEC championship would then play the number 3 ranked team for the National Championship.

Hmm. LSU plays both Florida and Alabama. Boise State has nobody left that will give them any trouble. Texas has Oklahoma and the Big12 Championship.
I'm the type of guy who desperately wants a college football playoff system, and the way I see it is that if Florida and Alabama both finish undefeated and face each other in the SEC Championship, then that's as close to a playoff as I'll ever see because the winner of that game will be in the BCS Championship against whoever the third team is (hopefully an undefeated Texas).
Of course, it is only week 5 LOL

NCAA rules....
imo...excessive celebration needs to be revised to "taunting"...........also put the ball back on the 35 for kickoffs....I understand they want to put more excitement back into that side of the game.......but these guys are college kids not pros......70 yards is too long to kick and too long to run to cover~I'm far from being a Ga fan but
GA got completely ripped off Saturday. Richt, their AD and the Univ. President should complain to the SEC. It was a TERRIBLE call and completely changed the game in LSU's favor. If he had done anything wrong in celebrating, which he didn't it should have been called. He didn't do anything that warranted a flag and even the announcers couldn't believe it
PATHETIC call.
it almost tends to leave one to believe that the fix was in.........LSU #4 with the gators coming up next woulda runied the TV exposure

I do think the SEC is by far the best league in college football. The BCS championship game should certainly include the winner of the SEC championship.
However, the BCS doesn't work that way. Even though the NCAA designates one bowl game as the "championship", it might not shake out that way after all the games are played. Isn't that one of the main complaints from those that want a playoff system? There might be diff #1's in diff polls. Sometimes the teams with the best records don't even get a shot at a title game.
The NCAA doesn't officially recognize a national champion.
The Crimson Tide and the Gators were great yesterday. I hope it all works out so that the best team is proclaimed champion at the end of the season.
I am feeling kind of bad for Bobby Bowden. He is being forced out after all these years. Is he older than Joe Pa?

The main complaint I have is that without a playoff, you never really get a true champion.
You might have three undefeated teams at the end of the year, if the odd man out wins their bowl game, then you would end up with two undefeated teams but only one declared champion.
If Alabama and Florida can continue to win, then they will be undefeated and face each other in the SEC Championship. Perfect! Because they would still be both ranked in one of the 1-2-3 spots, the winner would go on to meet the third team in the BCS National Championship.
Geez. I want a playoff so bad that I'm hoping for a fluke one.

It is fun to watch. I like College ball better than the NFL.
It just seems to me sometimes that the college players are more emotionally involved and the games are more exciting.
Once the players get weighted down with those big $contracts$ and it becomes a business, then........ you know.

Kentucky – Auburn
The War Eagles came back down to Earth and limped home from a pig attack still not bowl eligible. The suspicions that there were issues with the defense became more than just suspicions as the Razorbacks ran roughshod over Auburn. With the exception of the 7 points they were held to by Alabama Arkansas has scored at least 41 points in each of their games. Without an exciting rally in the third quarter that probably made Arkansas fans nervous Auburn would have gotten blown out much worse. The War Eagles are home against what I consider to be a lesser opponent. Rich Brooks has done a decent job keeping the UK football program viable at a school where basketball is king. But I do not expect him to ever get the Wildcats to the level of challenging for anything more than a mid-level bowl. UK is coming off a thrilling – maybe not for them – loss to South Carolina and is capable of beating any body on any Saturday. Auburn’s defensive woes are due in large part to a lack of depth and that problem will not go away during the season. However the offense should be able to stay ahead of the Kentucky defense and allow the War Eagles to start thinking post season. Auburn 38 Kentucky 31
South Carolina – Alabama
I consider Steve Spurrier – whatever one may think of him – the number one coach in the SEC in the post-Bear Bryant Era. South Carolina may not win any championships under Spurrier but that remains to be seen. The Gamecocks are, however, 5 – 1 and ranked 22nd in the polls. I expect them to finish with a respectable record (maybe 8 – 4 or 9 – 3) and in a respectable bowl. With a big win against Mississippi behind them and a big rivalry the following Saturday the Tide need to watch out or the Gamecocks can make this more interesting than it should be. Saban has never beaten Spurrier as his LSU teams got drubbed by Florida 41 – 9 in 2000 and 44 – 15 in 2001. But Saban’s teams in 2000 and 2001 were not as good as Alabama in 2009 and Spurrier’s team in 2009 is not as good as Florida was in 2000 and 2001. Alabama 31 South Carolina 14

Alabama denies Tennessee's request to wear orange jerseys in Tuscaloosa
http://blog.al.com/bamabeat/2009/10/alabama_denies_tennessee_reque.html
the last two sentences are priceless...
They could still wear orange and take a 15-yard penalty in each half for doing so, but they are planning to wear usual white road jerseys.

The TRADITION continues; and once again ALABAMA is the measure of an Opponent's football team. Some are questioning Lane Kiffin's understanding of this rivalry. Make no mistake about it; He gets it. Kiffin, as he stated himself, will model the Tennessee Revival, after the standard being built by Saban. Today's game will be won by the TIDE, but Tennessee will fight us to the end of the Fourth Quarter. That's the way it should be, and that's the way it is.

Pants don't count but Im glad they have some on.
Saban has to step up and talk to McElwain. I still can't wrap my mind around those last two calls. Absolutely terrible. Let's see: we're running the ball, they can't stop us, we need two yards on two plays for a first down......hmmmm....let's throw the ball!

Hi Rucky...
not 100% sure but I think the home team has the choice of what color jerseys to wear and visitors have to wear the opposite.
I say this because of Notre Dame's odd choice to sometimes wear their green jerseys.
Funny that I was just explaining the origin of wearing white/dark jerseys to my younger children just yesterday. By my understanding,it originated in the days of black and white tv....they needed a way to differentiate between teams. IIRC,it might have even started in boxing.
I am just old enough to remember b&w tv.

Things are starting to come together, Upchurch 100% a week off, peak will play. This could be an all out offensive attack for bama. The weapons are there. The O line has had a rest and will be 100% for first time in weeks. Everyone is thinking the pass has left us. hehe this saturday is the day we show them, this kid Mac is ready for prime time. We will be so balanced, you could put us on the head of a pin and the run and pass will be even. 250 yds passing and 250yds running. D holds LSU to less than 10 points. The storm has been brewing, and it is about to explode. Most think this is close game, not so fast my friend.
Bama by 20 plus. 31-6 bama rolls and we will own the corndogs.

"So I want everyone to think here for a second, "How much does this game mean to ya?" Because if it means something to you, you can't stand still, you understand?! You play fast, you play strong! You go out there and dominate the guy you're playing against and you MAKE HIS A** QUIT! That's our trademark! That's our M.O. as a team! A'ight, that's what people know us as! Understand?!"

30 Games since Alabama allowed an opposing ballcarrier to rush for at least 100 yards, the longest streak in the nation by nine games. Ohio State has a streak of 21 games. Ole Miss' BenJarvus Green-Ellis ran for 131 yards against the Crimson Tide in 2007, and no back has cracked 100 since against Alabama, one of six teams in the nation that has not allowed a 100-yard rusher this season, and the only team that has not done so in the past two seasons.

I'm not 'thirsty' for a Heisman at Bama. Like many alums, I take great pride in the fact that we have so many wins, so many NCs, so many 10-win seasons, so much tradition in a team sport w/o having one player elevate himself above the team. Bama has always been a TEAM. That is why we have accomplished all I list above.
